Tanuki
06-29-06, 09:35 PM
Name: Constantly changes name, though Miles is often used. Real Name is Juro, and hardly ever revealed.
Gender: Male
Species: Tanuki
Age: Unknown, he doesn't bother to keep track.
Weight: Upwards 400 pounds, no more than 500
Height: In preferred form, Short for the average male
Eye Color: Often slips his mind, and thus usually black
Hair Color: Changes Often
Appearance: Miles is a very heavy creature. One would not be able to tell from looking at him. This is because Miles is a great shape shifter, able to manipulate his appearance rather easily and effectively. He has taken a liking for a certain form however, of a good looking, young human male. While slightly shorter than he would normally be, he appears as thin, graceful and muscular, nearly the exact opposite as if he would have been in the form he was born in. The human form often has on some sort of shirt as well as baggy pants, though Miles has become rather taken by the colors deep red, black, dark green and a light green. Usually he combines them in various ideas on his cloths, though not always do they look good on him. He often wears a shirt with pants, though on special occasions will sometimes don a kimono if the situation calls for it. This is because he is often ignorant of society's upper class attire, and simply reverts back to his old traditional wear.
When not in towns or searching for something where there is a great amount of people, Miles often relaxes his transformation. This includes the following, a general more bestial look, though still mostly human, including more pointed ears, a short round striped tail, stripes and a light mask of fur on his face over his eyes. A slight sheen of brownish fur appears over his body in this case, unreflective in light (Note, not real form). For reasons that he would not tell, he does not show his real form that often. Also, those who can sense magic would be able to tell that he was not what he appeared.
Tools and Items
Work Kit: This includes many minor things, including three thin iron knives, a screwdriver, a large steel wrench, and an iron carpentry hammer. Also within it are varying amounts of nails, screws, and the like.
Large, Golden Ball: Very ornamental, this is also one of Miles' prize posesions and would not sell it for the world.
Small Satchel: Used to hold his gold and his work kit. In addition, the satchel has been magically augmented to hold far more than it may appear, so there is still plenty of space left.
Magic of Note
Transformation: as you may have gathered from above, Miles is very good at transformation, appearing as though he was only a thin boy instead of a largely overweight Tanuki. However, this only condenses and hides his weight. If he were to jump while in his boy form, he would weight as much as he normally did. It take him a few minutes of concentration to transform fully, such as changing height or facial structure, but changing his hair color or eye color for example would only take a few moments. This takes minor effort on Miles part, and relaxing his transformation often gives a slight boost in energy.
Skills/Traits of Note:
Agility and Strength: Miles' strength and agility are a bit greater to that of a fit, athletic man, no matter what form he is in.
Thief: Miles has quick hands, as well as a natural tendency to be quiet for his weight. In addition to this, he is rather adept at getting past average locks and doors.
Workmanship: While not apparent, Miles is a very worker, as well as being able to almost see designs just by looking at certain things. One example is being able to know the general layout of a small house by looking at it from the outside. In addition, he could, say, create a wooden walking stick without much difficulty, or a chair or shoddy arrows, but things such as a bow he cannot create.
History
Juro the Tanuki was among the most powerful of his group at one point in time. Neither he, nor many others that he associated with him at the time would ever talk about it, both from inability to remember, or simply not wanting too. While many others of his brethren were performing whatever deeds they wanted in order to preserve their memory, Juro would remain behind, more often than not with a bottle of sake in one hand and more than enough free time to whittle away. The Tanuki never cared much for how he was remembered in the eyes of mere mortals. It did not stop him from having his own fun with them, even taking the time to learn much about their ways of workmanship. While some of the Tanuki wished to perform some sort of good deed to the mortals, Juo simply played with them. Most of the buildings he helped to vreate were among the grandest at the time, though fell quickly after Juro stopped living in them or he left that area.
There were a few major groups of "Immortal" creatures as they enjoyed calling themselves, however only the Tanuki and a select few of the Kitsune ever turly attained that goal. While the rest were just as powerful, they would die sooner or later, and while they may not admit it, they knew it too. Juro's troubles began one simple fateful night, as well as both two empty bottles of sake and not enough sense knocked into the Tanuki. Despite all he hardships that he often gave the mortals, he had to admit that sake was their greatest invention, stuff that even an immortal could get drunk off of. He had found the drink before many of the others who were there, making himself his own little promise to try and stay out of their affairs as repayment.
However, the drink had effects on Juro just as it did on any other creature that intakes enough of it. Despite his own rational minds decisions, he often took to bothering the other immortals, mostly his friends who forgave him rather easily. Other times he accidently influenced a mortal, more often than not in a bad way. He slowly went down a road, and the other Immortals distanced themselves from him. His actions were beginning to get more and more dangerous to both him and those he was with, slowly but surely increasing in severity in their consequences.
The whole chain of events that ended up causing him to leave and go into hiding happened quickly, and all in a single night. Juro was done drinking for the night, and has only a vague memory of what he did. He had heard word about some of the things that the kitsune had while with his friend drinking. They had long sense learned to stay away from him when Juro decided to do something, but at the time there was no better person to drink with. The Tanuki and Kitsune often didn't mingle with each other often, but Juro was one of the few who didn't alienate himself from them. He heard of the Kitsune ball, something that they treasured above all else, and would probably make the greatest story and game of all time.
The next few hours of that night blurred in the tanuki's mind. Everything from the entrance into one of the Nine-Tails' homes, one of the most powerful of the Kitsune, to the actual theft and escape from the Home of that particular Nine-Tails. He memory went into sharp clarity, remembering that he had woken up with a large golden ball in one hand, and a note of his own handwriting in the other with his head in pain from what felt like a massive hit to the head. The note was scrawled in the hand of someone both in a hurry and not seeing right. Juro could make out enough of the message to get the meaning. According to it, the Kitsune were after him, though it was mainly the Nine-Tails. The tanuki stared at the paper for a moment, looking at the egg and back at the paper as a wide smile broke his face and ideas formed in his head.
"Excellent."
