I'm posting this thread because I want to know what the people of Althanas think about Avatars. I, personally like them.

But even more, what kinds do you like?

Do you like ridiculous and comedic avatars (such as mine)?

Do you like serious avatars that represent your character literally?

Do you like Avatars of things that already exists; such as people, characters, movie stars, etc?

Palette-swapped versions of video game sprites that resemble my characters.

That's the kind of avatar I roll with.

Ridiculous/comedic avatars are always nice to see, though.

Mine are a representation of my characters, or something about my characters. For instance with nightstalker, Black Lotus flowers are his calling card, ALL his victims get one before he kills them. ALL of them, without exception. Thus, the avatar.

I think most people's avatars are awful. That's because they're their avatars and not mine. Everyone just picks shit that they like. It's not really... topic worthy.

Mine's based on my name more than my character... with a blue filter on it. Yep...

I drew mine. <.<;;

So it's a perfect representation of my character.

The best ever was way back when, a bunch of the mods would get together and pick avatars based on a common theme like a movie. It was awesome when everyone had office space avatars. Like one mod had a picture of micheal bolton, and another had lumberg, and another had milton.

Someone should start that again.

I used to do that on another forum. Only there were three admins, myself included, who would do it and would also change everyone's user names. If you spent a year on that forum you'd have a list of aliases in the dozens.

I usually find an anime character that resembles my character and stick her image next to my name. If you could go through my list of usernames, you'd find it without exception.

I used to go the comedic/real life/movie route, but now I just stick to images that more or less represent my character. Sometimes it's just a picture from DeviantArt or somewhere similar, or maybe an anime character that I've recoloured in Photoshop to suit my needs (as with Christina).

I like the funny and the serious ones, although I think it's cooler to look at how people actually see their characters. Then I can get an accurate grip on how they ought to be described if we're writing together.

Me, I either use art of Sanoe I've drawn myself - of which there is a lot, but none quite good or finished enough yet - or just of the few actresses I think look/act just like her.

They usually end up being avatars of Rachel Weisz, whom I'd choose to play Sanoe if she were ever televised. She's got her look and her voice down pat. And she's hot.

I usually pick an avatar that suits my character's personality or looks. As of now, Broly represents Vincent's juggernautish insanity.

I think Winterhair and I are the ones who switch avatars the most around here. I haven't been doing it recently; I think I finally found the one.

I am one of those people who get pissed off when account don't have avatars. I have a visual memory so it's really frustrating for me to remember all the screen names, when I can just look at the avatars. Dunno, my brain gets irritated when it has to think for 3 seconds to remember a person. Sometimes when I have nothing better to do I just look images up and make people avatars to be sent over a PM.

I usually go down for serious avatars that symbolize or depict my character.

Mine's of Obama doing his infamous fist bump with his wife and has no real purpose other than letting me say this after every explanation:

Obama for 2008.

EDIT: I also wanted to find a picture of Colbert doing his parody of the fist bump with his own move called 'Tickling the Rocks'.
