Hello, I've just joined Althanas and I am eager to get the hang of this place. I used to RP back in high school, so it's been a little while for me, but I still love to write...

I'm curious, what are the age ranges of writers here? Not that it really makes a difference, so long as you try to improve. But I do wonder if I'm young here or old, haha. :)

Welcome to Althanas. I find that if you stay away from a few certain people. *coughs and looks nervously around* You should be okay. But, I'm 18 but I have been making new characters every 6 months since I was about 14, so I guess I'd qualify as a young'un.

Have fun!

Haha, well I'm sure that's true on any site... It's good to know I'm not too old for this place. I'm about to turn 21. Thanks for the info. :)

I get the impression that at least a fair number of us are in our twenties. There will be children which annoy from time to time, but that seems an increasingly common part of life as a whole. Welcome.

Welcome to Althanas!

Please keep your arms and legs inside the forum at all times or they may be removed by rabid, zombified characters. Do not feed the following people: Seriliant, Godhand, Letho, Christoph, Elijah Morendale, Skie and Avery, Zook Murnig, Bloodrose and Slayer of the Rot for they may become dependent on you afterwards and are hard to get rid of. Any screams you may now be experiencing are the sounds of dying characters. Do not be alarmed for they shall be revived in new and inventive ways the following thread. Have a nice day. ^^

*offers you a plate of cookies*

By the way, I'm 22 and have been on Althy on and off since I was around 17.

What she said.
I'm almost eighteen, but I've seen twelve year olds on here too. So from about twelve to 26.

Welcome to Althanas! I am 20.
You'll find that there are enough people here so that you can RP with whatever type of person you want. It's great.

Wow, thank you all for the warm welcome. I guess having a lot of people on the site does make it pretty easy to find what you like.

When I decided to get back into RPing, I wasn't sure where to look... I just googled role play writing and found Althanas. It was the first place I looked, and after browsing the site for about 20 minutes I decided to give it a try. So far I feel like my gut instinct made a good snap decision.

So from about twelve to 26.I think Godhand has like 105 or something.

Welcome to Althanas, Marilyn. If I were you, I'd pay no heed to the age. What counts is how you write and if you're having fun with it.

Thanks Letho. That's always true but I have had some bad experiences with sites where immaturity ruined a good RP. But it seems like that shouldn't be a problem here.

dammit. I'm the baby here too -.- unless someone is magically younger than 14, i'm screwed. But anyways, welcome to althanas! As people have said above, age should not matter as much as skill. We're all still learning though, methinks, so don't worry bout just getting back in! ^^

I'm unwholesomely old, I'm 24. But just like size, age doesn't matter...

I'm 22 for another 11 days. Then I become old.

Also, Marilyn, I love your avatar.

Grittings and welcome to Althanas!

Hello, everyone who has recently commented, and thanks for the greetings.

Elijah, you and I have the same birthday! Just two years apart. And thanks, btw.. I love Hitchhiker's Guide. Sweet character skills, I like the icecraft idea.

Does anyone have a suggestion for what to do about my character's magic skills? I'm not going to give her a massive amount of power, but I don't want to limit her to just a few measly spells because we are required to list everything in our profile. I thought I would be able to add little ideas as I go but apparently that's not possible. :/

You technically can add little ideas as you go via quest spoils. Example: you're in a quest and your character develops a new spell/skill/whatever during that quest. You can request this new skill as a spoil and if it's reasonable, the judge of your thread will allow it and you may use it henceforth. Your story doesn't necessarily have to revolve around the development of this skill. Some of my skills were "awoken" by some dire situation. That's just one way of developing the desired ability.

Hmm, ok well that's helpful. Still limits the options at the beginning though. And I understand that as a new character, she is meant to be low level, but my idea was for her to have a thin coverage of a wide range of magic.. without having to know exactly what that covered yet. I guess it will take a little longer to get into this with a finished profile than I thought..

Well~ You can say she knows a range of Elemental Magic... But limited in power and application as starters. For instance, should could have some close-range flamethrower spells that aren't very combat-effective or summon a lump of ice into her hand. Maybe raise a small column of rock from the ground and make a ball of wind to chuck at your enemies. Those are some ideas, but don't take my word for it. ;)

Oh, yes. And welcome to Althanas, Marilyn!

Do not feed the following people: ... Zook Murnig

True story. She still hasn't completely gotten rid of me.

Age: 19, turning 20 this month. RPing since about...14 or 15? Joined here December '06.

If you ask around, you can find out some interesting tidbits about each of us. For example, Godhand goes to bed every night to the mental image of Frank Sinatra suplexing a cougar into a burning table.

Not so much mental anymore after this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v36/Avian/Althanas/godhandrequest.jpg). I don't think anyone who has looked at the real life image can get past it without laughing. There was one friend who told me to put it into my portfolio for Illustration audition this year just to see if I could get in with an image like that.

19 after a good month and a half a go, rping since I was 13.

Additionally, you can have your character learn ICly from someone else, like for instance apprentice her to a more powerful magic user, or an organization, such as learning acrobatics from a troupe of traveling performers your working for. Like Letho said, they don't have to be the main focus, but perhaps a thread or two under apprentice ship to another PC might be ideal for getting more abilitiesm and is a different way to accomplish the same thing Letho did, in getting hidden abilities activated in the heat of the moment.

If it's an NPC Character or organization, a thread or two is still a good option, but might need to be done differently. As well, they can become part of your starting backround, you know, why your where you are at any given time. For instance, going with my troupe example, You could be in Scara Brae for a performance, and get hired by The scourage for a job, or the local guards, depending on how you want to go. The possibilities are endless, just don't forget to use your imagination.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Sorry I'm slow to respond as my RL life tries to pretend technology doesn't exist sometimes... I will take all your ideas into consideration, and I'm so grateful for the warm welcomes!
