Kiele

Name: Kiele Rainth
Age: Eighteen Years Old
Race:
Hair Color: Blonde
Eye Color: Black
Height: Five feet and five inches
Weight: 120 lbs.
Occupation:
Personality: Kiele’s true personality is hard to decipher, especially because of the fact that she changes how she deals with people according to who it is. She can be manipulative in the way that she acts friendly in order for people to trust her, and then hits them when they least expect it. To other people, she can be quite hostile when annoyed, and distant when uninterested. But sometimes, unconsciously, she does grow fond of people for the strangest and smallest things—and she can’t help it. It can be something very small and simple, like a person with an interesting personality or history, and then she’ll be a bit less hostile—which, for her, is her friendly side.
She doesn’t see the need for a lot of immoral things, like bloodshed. It’s not that she thinks it’s wrong, she just thinks it unnecessary. Kiele does enjoy fighting at times, for the reason that she likes feeling above others, at all aspects of life. Quite a clever person, she has a sharp tongue and enjoys reading history books.
Appearance: Her hair is pale blonde, straight and reaches a few inches past her ears. She has piercing black eyes and a round face. Her round face makes her look a few years younger than what she really is. Kiele has a small frame but a lean body. She wears a leather vest over a white long-sleeved shirt that she folds up until her elbows. Kiele wears a short black skirt and leggings that reach until her ankles, with comfortable worn-out leather boots on her feet. She has iron protectors, old and scratched, fixed around her elbows and knees. Most of the time, she wraps herself in a thick black coat that conceals most of her identity except for her face—if she isn’t wearing the hood up.
History: There was nothing special about Kiele when she was just a child. She played with everyone else and enjoyed the usual games. She was obedient towards her parents and studied hard. She was also incredibly bored with life. Nobody could explain why, but she started to lose more and more interest in everything. All she ever did was read books. At the age of twelve, she could read a few lines from books from ancient times that most scholars in their village couldn’t even understand. She learned a few spells from it and was scolded when they caught her, but she just shrugged it off and was disappointed when they confiscated the books.
She became more and more distant to those around her, and ignored them when they insulted her family—because her dad got into an accident when she was twelve and could no longer move, and her mother didn’t know anything about the outside world and couldn’t work. In short, they were turning poor. Because she didn’t see anything wrong in it, she would take food from the market and nobody caught her—and it came to the point where she would take gold from people’s pockets from the nearby city, and still, nobody caught her. Her mother thought it was wrong but didn’t say anything because it was the only way they could eat. As time passed, she learned to become manipulative to get what she wanted—she tricked the scholars to hire her, even though most of the translations she told them were lies because she couldn’t understand that much.
Kiele was in the city one day when she saw a wounded cat. It was orange in color and was sprawled out in an alley. And because she wanted to test a healing spell she read about, she approached it and said the words in her mind—nothing happened, and she watched it die. Shrugging, she proceeded home and forgot all about the cat. The next day, when she stepped out of her house, she was surprised to find it waiting for her on the doorstep.
“You tried to help me,” it told her.
Kiele’s eyes widened for a while and she wondered if this was a dream. Assuming that she was still asleep, she replied, “It didn’t work. I watched you die.”
“A cat has more than one life,” the animal reminded her.
Then she realized it wasn’t a dream when it followed her everywhere she went and that she was able to have a normal conversation with it whenever she wanted. It never gave a name—and she never asked. Of course, in front of others, she was smart enough not to talk to it. And she realized just how indebted the cat was to her when her father finally lost breath—and returned just a few seconds later. The cat gave one of its lives to Kiele’s father.
“How many lives do you have left?”
“Three, I think.”
“Stop wasting it.”
The cat looked taken aback—it had just given her father more time. In Kiele’s thoughts, she saw how much her father was suffering, and just thought that it would probably be easier for him to just go. The cat never realized this.
The cat died again when it was hit by a carriage it didn’t see coming. It stepped right back beside Kiele when it came back. At this point, Kiele was starting to get annoyed by it—she seemed almost relieved when it caught a fatal disease, and she was starting to count the cat’s lives by now—it was down to two by now, this disease would leave it with one, then—
“Do you want my last life?”
Kiele was, to say the least, shocked with his question. She still couldn’t understand why it was so attached to her. All she did was try to heal it in the past, but other than that, she couldn’t see why it had a debt towards her. But, an extra life, that sounded nice—
“Okay.” She said, almost automatically. The cat nodded and stood up slowly, putting its paw on her folded hand. Suddenly, she received visions. She saw the cat’s past lives, and one that was owned by a young girl with the same eyes as that cat. The girl had taken sips from a strange fountain. Kiele had read about it before—the fountain of life. For a moment, Kiele wondered why the cat never showed her its true form as a human girl. She felt astonished when it was all done, and she watched the cat die for the last time. This all happened when she was fifteen.
Years passed since the cat died, and Kiele realized she was no longer ageing. She stayed fifteen for a few decades and watched people grow old around her, watched her dad died of body weakness, and when her mother died of old age, heard the rumors about her. And when she could no longer see the point in staying in that village, she left, no destination in mind. Kiele roamed around for two centuries with no ultimate goal. She also kept in mind that the life given to her by the cat only stopped her from ageing; it didn’t stop her from death.
Then, she finally felt what it was like to die when she was ambushed by bandits. It felt incredibly cold, but she regained her consciousness a few hours later, and felt the uncomfortable blood on her clothes. She was scared—she couldn’t remember anything from the moment she died and the moment she woke up, just emptiness. Then she was scared that she no longer had an extra life now. Because of this, she trained to fight and honed her few spells. The next time she died would be the final one. She couldn’t take the image of the strange fountain from her head. She started counting her birthdays again, and even after centuries of being alive, she still regarded herself as eighteen.
Skills:
Close Combat - Kiele isn’t very good at close combat because of her small frame, but she moves and thinks faster than most people and can anticipate her opponent’s moves. Because of this, she’s able to dodge most attacks, making up for her lack of physical strength. For close combat, she uses a pair of steel knives, which she can use with below average skill.
Crossbow Handling - Crossbows are her weapon of choice, but she hasn’t mastered it yet. She has average skill for this weapon, and she has good aim and will rarely miss a stationary target up to a hundred feet. Quickly moving targets are more difficult for her, but while not absolutely precise, she’ll be able to hit the target’s area.
Because of the time needed to use a crossbow efficiently, she learned how to shoot three arrows at the same time—but it does take about twice more the time than using just one arrow at a time.
Basic Fire Spells
She can cause a small space to burn, but she usually casts it on her arrows. May be used three times a thread.
Kiele can also summon a ring of fire around the perimeter of her body, but it only stands about three feet in height and will disappear after a minute. May be used two times a thread.
Equipment:
Iron protectors - tied around her knees and elbows.
Wooden crossbow - her main weapon of choice.
Iron arrows - thirty pieces.
Steel knives - five inches long, two pieces.
Vial of paralysis potion - when drank, will cause the person to be unable to move for an hour or so.
Note: I think I submitted a profile for this character a long time ago, but since I never got back to it, it was never approved. I hope making a brand new one is okay.
