Sahale
08-12-08, 06:01 PM
Name: Sahale Fhadraea
Age: 83
Race: Elven
Hair Color: Dirty Blond
Eye Color: Hazel
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 160 lbs.
Appearance: Upon first glance, Sahale has the look of a weathered traveler. His brown over shirt is dirty, simple and worn at the edges. A tough traveling belt holds up his pants that, while aren't anything to be proud of, match his shirt with vagabond like aesthetics. Several pouches hang from the sides of the belt.
Sahale has thick, brown leather shoulder pads and a matching leather bracer set. The worn edges are what was likely once a decorative forest green border. Though now most of the leather is a large mess of scuff marks and scratches.
With his equipment in such shambles one would expect to see an aged grizzly face to match. While he may not be quite as fair as many of his Elven brethren, Sahale still does his race some justice. His short dirty blond hair is un-styled, however still pleasant on the eyes. His features are soft yet serious.
Personality: Sahale is very reserved and does not speak overly much in public. He is typically only open to those he knows and trusts. He is not un-trusting, he simply prefers to keep to himself around strangers and tends to observe and learn before interacting. He is far less patient with individuals that show no respect or feeling for nature. As such, Sahale finds it difficult to stay in large cities for extended periods of time.
Occupation: Sahale has a strong affinity to nature. He has recently decided to follow the path of the Druid.
Equipment:
- two simple linen shirts (one is a lining to make the wool shirt easier to bare)
- one cheap but functioning wool shirt (for those cool nights)
- small change pouch
- utility belt with two compartmented satchels
- large oak walking stick (doubles as a beating stick)
- iron dagger (for skinning dinner)
- one simple yew longbow
- eight cyper arrows
- one thick leather falconer's glove
- two leather bracers
- leather shoulder pads
- one signaling whistle
Familiar: During Sahale's five year sabbatical he encountered a young female Peregrine Falcon that had not yet reached maturity. He noticed that after the encounter the young bird began to follow and observe him, not unlike a curious child. Sahale began to leave some food behind for the Peregrine and eventually befriended the creature. He named her Onora, meaning honorable one.
Onora is not domesticated but has chosen to be Sahale's companion. She is not trained to perform feats like domesticated animals. She and Sahale communicate through a simple language they have developed. Sahale uses a special signaling whistle he made and she will chirp and squawk. She is twice as fast, strong and agile as a normal bird of her species and five times as intelligent.
The signaling whistle very high pitched and hardly audible to most humanoids.
Skills:
Tracking (average): Sahale has spent years in the woods surviving on his own. He has spent countless hours hunting, chasing and cornering his prey. Learning how to read tracks, avoid crossing them and determine just how fresh they are.
Sahale is able to identify, read and follow up to five tracks that cross in the same general area. He can specify the age of tracks to within three hours of the time they were created. The type of ground will affect the difficulty of the tracking. For instance it is far easier to track someone through the mud than up a 180 degree rock face.
Wilderness Survival and Aptitude (above average): Once again, years of learning how to survive on his own has taught Sahale much about wilderness survival. He has learned how to easily spot animal habitats, how to hunt and trap prey and where the best locations to lay traps are. Sahale has also learned to recognize certain plant formations and animal behaviours as signs to help locate water, much like someone would use street signs in a city.
While in the wilderness Sahale is able to easily hunt and gather enough food for two people per day. Sahale is also able to properly skin and prepare this food. He can reliably locate a water source, or realize there isn't one, within three hours of searching. He is able to predict weather one hour ahead of time. Sahale can find or build a simple yet effective shelter for two people in an hour or less.
Movement through even thick brush and dense forest does not impede Sahale's movement speed. He has learned to move through all sorts of difficult terrain swiftly without risking injury to himself.
Animal Lore (average): Sahale has observed animal behaviour more than he has humanoid behaviour these last many years. He is able to identify many dozens of species and even get down into the sub-species. He can observe animal behaviour to easily and quickly determine a creatures disposition and intent. Sahale can also use his knowledge to slightly affect or alter the disposition of animals if he so wishes.
Herbalism (average): Sahale has learned how to identify and pick a wide variety of herbs, weeds, berries and the like (collectively as 'herbs'). He can use these herbs in various combinations to create different useful and unique results.
Healing Salve: Sahale can gather ingredients to make a potent healing salve, enough for a 5x5 cm surface, in about 1.5 hours. Once spread over the injured surface, the healing salve will reduce inflammation by 60%, pain by 60%, heal time by 40%.
If ingested, the Healing Salve will relieve upset stomach, double fortitude against disease and poison, reduce inflammation and pain by 20%, all within 10 minutes consuming the salve. One must be careful, however, when ingesting the healing salve as it will result in a deep sleep for at least five hours. It takes considerable effort to wake an individual from this sleep.
All effects will last for 24 hours. External application of the healing salve will only heal cuts, scrapes, bruises and the like.
Anti-Venom: Sahale can put together an effective anti-venom to attempt to counter all sorts of poisons. It takes Sahale two hours to gather the herbs and produce enough Anti-Venom for one dose. Mild, and weaker, poisons will be neutralized. Anything more potent however, poisons and venoms strong enough to kill a man sized target, and the Anti-Venom will only slow the effects for six to eight hours. 80% must be consumed and the remaining 20% applied to any wounds that may be the source of entry.
The Anti-Venom is also useful in those areas with high concentration of biting insects. To apply, simply slather it over the skin of areas you wish to protect. Once applied, the Anti-Venom reduces bites by 60%. It only takes half a dose to cover the average humanoid body.
Bow (below average): Sahale is an adept hunter when it comes to shooting dinner. Most of his targets do not know he is there or are peacefully grazing. Unfortunately when it comes to combat Sahale's lack of experience does not contribute much to his benefit. He is usually better off retreating.
Staff (multiple): Sahale is not a cunning warrior. He carries with him a large oak walking stick that he can use in self defense if the need arises.
Attack (poor): His ability to attack with the staff is quite poor. Sahale is not an aggressive individual and does not engage in combat for the many reasons, such as sport or competition, that most humanoids do.
Defense (average): His ability to use the staff defensively is much better than that of his attack. Sahale has had much more practice using the staff in self defense against various wilderness creatures.
Dagger (poor): Sahale has a dagger but it's use is exclusive to skinning and gutting his evening meal. He has absolutely no idea how to use it effectively in combat. All he can reliably do with it is stab a stunned, or otherwise, prone target.
History: Sahale's parents were successful merchants and spent very little time at their home in Eluriand, Raiaera. Thanks to this, Sahale had a chance to learn the custom's of a wide range of peoples and races. Though he came to know many different perspectives and outlooks on life, he never really deeply identified with any of them on a personal level. Not even those of his own race, the Elves of Raiaera.
One day while traveling with his parents' caravan they encountered a Druid. He had learned of their coming and made his way to the path, where he waited for them, so that he might trade for some materials he required. This meeting would change Sahale's life forever.
He spoke with the Druid for a few hours and learned much of his ways. The Druid spoke of a life force that flowed through everything in the universe. That the Druids had no common way of describing or teaching how to connect with this force, but that each and every one of them made this connection in their own way. Sahale learned much from this brief encounter with the Druid. This way of life, this perspective, touched him somewhere deeper than anything he had encountered before.
So Sahale set out a few months later into the wilderness on a lonely sabbatical, a journey he knew may never end at the destination he desired. He decided to travel the country side until he knew if this was the life style for him. It took a decade to make a decision.
Never during his travels had he been deterred from his objective; he roamed the wild for years until finally one day - he felt it. He could feel the presence of life and the flow of energy that connected everything.
This was it, the moment that Sahale had been looking for. This was the moment that his journey truly began, when he began to follow the path of the Druid.
