Name: Azrael
Age: Unknown
Race: Ancient demigod
Hair Colour: Murky black
Eye Colour: Crimson red
Height: 6”6 ft
Weight: 209 lbs
Occupation: Harbinger of death
Personality: If you could sum up his personality in a word, stoic would best describe it. Azrael does not waste time with meaningless discussion and is very straight and to the point. He shows almost no emotion other than rage, which he sometimes displays in excess.
He is extremely prone to violence and destruction, and performs such acts on a whim. He views almost everyone that gets anywhere near him as an enemy, and won’t hesitate to eliminate those in his way. He does not care for mortals, plants, or other living things. His purpose is death, and he seems adamantly devoted to it.
Appearance: Azrael stands at six feet, six inches tall, and weighs approximately two hundred and nine pounds. He is of medium large build and has fine toned muscles. His hair is of the deepest murky black. It falls out in waves upon his head, shifting like a black ocean, save for two odd formations of hair. They appear as horns, similar to those of an antelope, and curve back over his head from the top closer to his forehead.
His eyes are of the deepest crimson red, burning with the torment he has suffered for eons. Looking directly into them, one would see it shift and change, forming spots of black, then more waves of red, like a burning inferno. Only those who did not fear death would dare search these eyes, and in them they would feel for themselves the suffering he had endured, and hear the cries of the countless people who had fallen before him.
A large bloodstain, running from his right shoulder, to his waist, slightly displaced to the left side, marks Azrael’s chest. This stain comes from the blood of the monsters he consumed as a child. Constantly basked in their blood it caked into his skin and dyed it red. It could never be washed out, and was thus left and as a permanent reminder of his horrifying past.
The only clothing Azrael chooses to wear is a pair of large, and very baggy, black pants. These pants are made of a very durable material, and have survived with him since ancient times, but they have little significance in the way of defensive properties. He wears neither shirt, nor any shoes or gloves. His body from the waist up is fully exposed.
History: Long ago, in ancient times, there existed a god of malice and evil. He sought to destroy the world and re-create it in his own image, by wiping out all of its inhabitants, from the lowly humans, to the mighty dragons. However, the pure gods halted his designs, and forbade him from interfering in the evolution of mortals. He refused to be stopped in his ambition, and thus gifted his most devout servant, a human sorceress, with a son. His son.
The god decreed that his son would become the harbinger of death, the bringer of destruction for all mortal life. He commanded the sorceress to hone the boy into a creature of death, and thus had him cast into the depths of the earth. There, in a festering pit, the boy fed and grew on the monsters that dwelled there. His body was soaked in the blood of his prey, and his scent became rank with the smell death. One day he became strong enough to drag himself from the pit and forced his way back to the world above.
The god, pleased with this, gifted the Sorceress with a pendant to control his son. She obediently placed the pendant around her son’s neck, but no sooner than it was on, the boy had killed her where she stood. Angered, the god coursed his magic through the pendant, punishing the boy for defying him. The god tortured him until he begged for forgiveness and swore to obey from then on. The god then gave the boy the name Azrael, angel of death.
The god commanded his son to fulfill his twisted ambition and sent him to destroy the denizens of the world. Azrael obeyed and began weaving a path filled with death and destruction across the land. Everywhere he went he spread more destruction. None could stand against him. Entire armies fell beneath his feet.
However, the pure gods would not allow the evil gods ambition to come to pass. They sent warrior of their own design to defeat Azrael and bring an end to the destruction he wrought upon the land. Only after a fierce battle did the warriors of the pure gods succeed in locking away Azrael’s power, and cast him into the depths of the earth, where he would be imprisoned for the rest of time.
Not all things can last forever. There is a great trembling of the earth. An explosion is heard. A great black cloud of smoke and ash rises into the air. It is a volcanic eruption, bringing molten lava from deep within the earth to the surface. But melted rock is not the only thing this eruption brings. A hand reaches out from the lava and grasps the stone of the mountain. Azrael pulls himself from contents of the earth, finally free.
He collapses on the rock face, his power drained from his long journey to the surface. The merciful light of the sun shines down upon him for the first time in so long. He is free at last, but he has no power left. Rendered mortal and helpless, he thinks only of finding a way to replenish his power and fulfilling his dark purpose. By any means necessary.
Skills:
Demigod endurance: A mixture of his divine heritage and the magic running through his veins has given Azrael a nearly indestructible body. It allows him to fight with his bare hands against swords and arrows. Only a strong sword wielded by an equally strong swordsman could have hoped to penetrate his skin. However, due to his depleted power, Azrael has been rendered much more vulnerable. He can still take much more damage than a normal human, however. His skin can be cut with a normal sword if a strong blow can be landed, but he will not bruise easily when hit by a blunt object. The magic transfers mainly into his bones, which unless hit with an incredibly strong blow, will not break.
Demigod strength: A mixture of natural might and magic allows Azrael to perform great feats of strength. He has the potential to lift several tonnes of weight, but again, the depletion of his magic has left him much weaker. Two hundred pounds is still relatively easy for him, but he would have difficulty lifting a full tonne of weight. Azrael packs an equally strong punch, one that would, at his current strength, crack stone, at the right angle.
Magic drain: To replenish his own stores, Azrael can absorb ambient magic from the air. However, he can also acquire it forcibly by draining it directly from the sources. That includes beings with significant magical power, such as wizards and demons as well as elementals. However, the amount of magic he can take from other beings is limited, as he requires more pure and refined sources such as a magic fountain. To truly replenish his stores, he must both eat and rest to restore it naturally, or find a fountain of primal energies similar to his own.
Equipment: The only possession that Azrael carries is a small pendant that he wears around his neck. The pendant is mostly metallic, and holds a small black jewel. Looking at it, one would see the murky black colour of the jewel shift and change before their eyes, swirling with dark energies that cannot be described. The pendant is a device made by Azrael’s father to keep him under control. If Azrael were ever to sway from his purpose, the pendant would harm him. The same would happen if he attempted to remove it. The pendant harms anyone who attempts to touch it other than Azrael himself.
