As you can easily tell, I'm somewhat new here. And by somewhat, I mean, "I've been here for about a half hour." A friend of mine directed me over in this general direction because I was having some troubles in my Writing Composition course. It might be good practice, as... well, when I attempt to talk about subjects, I drift from topic to topic. Maybe writing narratives'll help out.
Since I don't really have a clue as to what's going on in this place (kinda like my hobo-character), any and all help would be great.

Hiyas! If you're looking to flesh out your writing style, you've come to the right place!
Welcome to Althanas! Please step this way to have your measurements taken. Afterwards, your very own straightjacket will be on the way to your address. Don't ask how we know where you live...
At any rate, after you have created a character profile and have it approved by our Realm of Greetings Moderators, check out some of our current board-wide events! The Monthly Vignette Contest has just begun so you can try your hands on that for starters. If you're rarin' for RPG action, check out the various Regions or browse around the Role-Player's Corner for recruitments and invitations. If you just want to hang out, check out the Flying Stone Tavern and chat around!
And don't forget the Bazaar! If you're ever in need of some gears or special items, drop in and cash in the hard-earned money from your adventures.
If you have any questions, ask around! Us Moderators are online almost 24-7 (depending on local time) so there's always someone to talk to. Don't be afraid to hit us up on IM. We don't bite (too hard). :p
See you around, Nyan~!

One thing you've stated struck me as odd: if my character's a hobo, how would he go about spending hard-earned cash if he doesn't work?
Enough of my horrid jokes. I've already created a profile and was already approved (quickly, at that). I'll go about lurking about some portions of this shin-dig you guys have here till I get acquainted, and maybe some of the things you've suggested. And thanks for throwing the welcome mat my way.

He needed to keep his mouth clean for this afternoon's exam. Thanks for taking on the job for him, mr. xos. ^^
I think you can get away with stealing icly. From what I've read so far on this site, we have a few thieves about. I dunno, I haven't gotten my income either. T T
Welcome to Althanas, by the way. -drops by your thread-

I guess I can still use this thread to ask some pointed questions to help me understand what needs to be done for anything to happen.
-Suppose I wanna try my hand at starting out my character; suppose my only plan for the character is comic relief (although, my plans never "go according to plan," so that's subject to change). Where would be the best place to start?
-Other than the obvious "Get your character approved" which I've already done, what, if anything, needs to be done to finally begin?
-To put it bluntly, I've no thoughts on what my hobo's to do except act like a crazy old coot (read: comic relief). All I've got stored in my noggin are random quotes from long ago, which seem appropriate to blurt out from time to time due to the hobo's mental instability. Any thoughts as to how I could go about developing the characters?
