To summarize, Althanas.com will be assembling a collection of short stories set in the World of Althanas, and publishing it via a private publisher. We will be accepting stories submitted from any interested members, either adaptations from completed quests or new works. This idea has surely been talked and thought about for ages, and now it’s finally being done, giving the great aspiring authors inhabiting this forum the chance to get their work in print. The first Anthology will be as follows:

The World of Althanas

Althanas is a rich, diverse world filled with epic cities, mythical creatures, and unimaginable civilizations. From the frozen wilderness of Salvar ruled by powerful religious figures and monarchs to the temperate, tolerant island nation of Corone, individuals of all types struggle to etch out a life. From the steaming, fetid jungles of Dheathain to the arid deserts of Fallein, adventurers brave the harshest of environments in search of riches and glory. From the smoggy industrial wastelands of the Dark Elf kingdom of Alerar to the ancient and noble homeland of the High Elves, Raiaera, ancient rivalries and prejudices fester and bubble up to the surface. See the World of Althanas from the eyes its heroes and villains, and everyone in between.

Above is what we could expect to see written on the back of this book. Following that theme, we will be looking for stories that portray the world of Althanas – specifically, each major region. We will be accepting the two or three best stories per region, those that are the best written and portray their respective region the best. These would ideally take place before the FQ, or at least be able to fit into the theme (portraying these regions prior to the major upheavals). The Anthology will be approximately 160,000 words, so keep that in mind when submitting a piece.

Also, and this should be obvious, if you are adapting a multi-writer quest make certain that you provide expressed consent of everyone who was involved (assuming you can’t just get them to help in the adaptation process).

In addition, we may be holding a small contest for cover art entries, offering EXP and or GP to the entrants and winner, pending the approval from the rest of the staff.

The Althanas Anthology is now open for submission! The rules for submitting a story are as follows:

-Any story should be in short story format (so not in a post-by-post format) and at a length of between 7,000 and 15,000 words, though exceptions can be made if we feel the story is good enough.

-All entries should be PMed or emailed (CrazyCrazyChristoph@yahoo.com) to me no later than January 3rd, and just include what region it is set in and all the authors involved, if the work is collaborative.

-All entries will be judged based on their final versions; if yours was adapted from a quest, the score on the original will not be taken into consideration.

-No graphic sexual content.

-All entries will be kept private, viewed only by the staff prior to publication.

-We are seeking between two and three stories from each major region, and will keep a public tally of the number of entries we have for each region.

-Remember, we are seeking quality stories that best portray their respect region.

It would be interesting to take some of the best battle threads and include them into the short storys in a section called something along the lines of The Althenanian Citadel - Fights for Glory... Or something like that.

Battles might be hard to convert into short story format, but anyone is welcome to give it a shot!

Can we email? Cause of the 5000 character limit and all... would result in a lot of PMs...

Christoph

That's a good point. Yes, emailing would be better.

I probably didn't receive it because for some reason I still have my old email address in my profile. My current email is CrazyCrazyChristoph@yahoo.com

Hey Cristoph I have a few questions about this project. When is the deadline for this thing? Also, is there a specific -style- that stories need to be in in order to qualify? Like for example, I want to write a prose story depicting Lorenor's history. I think that would be kinda cool. Would something like that be acceptable?

The deadline is January 3rd, which is actually an extension on the original deadline to give people a chance to get something together. All entries should be in short story format, and should be an actual narrative. We're not looking for anything written like a history article, prose or otherwise. We want actual stories.

You mentioned a competition for the cover, Is that still happening and if so, when will it come and how should we submit.

We haven’t hammered out what the reward for winning would be (probably a nice chunk of GP), yet. We’re looking for potential Althanas Emblems – a symbol that captures the essence of the world of Althanas, as well as regular cover art (which… is supposed to capture the essence of the world of Althanas). We’re looking for something very good and professionally done, and as such there is a slight possibility that nobody will win if none of the entries meet what we’re seeking. So in short, emblems or cover art. We may use one or the other, we may use an entry from both, or we may wind up using none.

The deadline for the cover art contest entries is one week after the deadline for all story entries. All cover art entries should be emailed to me as an attachment. The prize for being selected is 2,000 GP.

Wow.. Talk about timing. I come back just in time to see an oppurtinity I'd love to take part in. That's just spooky. I really hope the Althanas greats, (in my opinion anyway), will enter in: Letho, Cyrus, Witchblade, to name a few. They have some real talent and have kept me wondering how they aren't already published authors. Oh well. Anyways, this should be great, and I'm planning to write up an entry now too.

Good Luck everyone! Let's write some fucking awesome stories!

For the cover art, its there any specific dimensions for the cover art? is it just the front or can we design a spine and back to match?

Christoph

The front cover will be about 6x9. You're free to do a spine and back as well if you'd like. The spine will probably be about an inch and a half thick, maybe a little more.

So ... can I make this in word to avoid the character limit, give you the 7K to 15K work requirement ... save it ... and THEN email it to you? Or does it HAVE to be posted on the forums?

Shisui

You're supposed to send it in email anyways. Don't post it on the forum.

That';s what I thought..

Not much time ... better get started.

Thanks.

Yeah, you can either email it to me as an attachment or as plain text in the email. Also, we'll consider shorter entries as well, such as between 4,000 to 6,500 words.
