Lidyunn Gorah
10-30-08, 11:53 AM
Name: Lidyunn Rolam Gorah (Male, goes by Lyd)
Race: Human with orc, elf & dwarf far in the background (great, great, great grand parents)
Age: 24
Occupation: Journeyman Alchemist
Height/Weight 6'2" & 198 lb
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Olive
Skin: Medium toned human skin, a bit ruddy
Personality: Lyd spends a lot of time in the lab of his Master, Wizard Gamon, working on delicate experiments that depend on the time of the moon, the exact measuring of ingredients, the careful harvesting and storing of herbs, and so on. He is a man of science, as best he can be. He regards magic and spell-lore as a necessary evil of his profession. He finds it tedious. He would rather observe reactions and or invent a new distillation apparatus than memorize and recite the proper incantaions to finish off a spell. He is quiet and focused in the lab, but happiest in a crowd after work. He likes parties and pub gatherings. A bit of a double sided character in that way, Journeyman Gorah is serious and solitary over his bubbling cauldron, but likable Lyd will buy a round of beer any time.
Appearance: Strong and broad and seldom felled by illness or violence to his person, Lyd has the happy strength of a melting pot heritage. He generally wears a reddish brown leather vest with many pockets and knee-length buckskin pants with the hair on the inside. He has a tooled leather helm (a gift from his brother) and wears leather boots to his knees. He generally wears no shirt under his vest, but he will occasionally don the fur trimmed midnight blue dress robes of his order, throwing them on over his standard outfit and belting them loosely.
Lyd moves with purpose and strides when he walks. Of course he wears the beard and long hair that are expected of his trade. His hair is brown and his beard has streaks of red. His most striking feature is his eyebrows, which are long and arched and bushy, with rogue hairs curling out longer than the rest. Wizard eyebrows. His eyes are dark green or olive-brown.
Background: One of the rare lucky few whose family wasn't murdered by raiders, or whose village wasn't burned to the ground, Lyd comes from a big well-established family, most of whom are in some trade or craft. He has two older sisters who are also Alchemists, although not under his master, and three brothers, an older one well-married and two still at home with his parents. His mother is a a fletcher and his father is a bard. They have three servants. Lyd doesn't live at home any more, but in the lower level caverns of his Master Gamon's modest castle, with five other journeymen.
Equipment & Abilities: Lyd Gorah doesn't have anything unexpected for a Journeyman Alchemist to carry. He has a rolled leather kit full of vials of ingredients. He could probably poison someone, if he had the will to slip something into the person's food or drink, but he doesn't, being generally well-disposed toward his fellows. He would be more likely to formulate a wicked bug repellant or build a portable still for whiskey. He carries a good sharp knife, but uses it to prepare dinner and harvest herbs and whittle useful objects, like corks or spoons. He walks with a staff, and could defend himself with it if need be, but he is rarely attacked. His sturdy physique doesn't invite attack from human adversaries, and he is generally circumspect enough to avoid the lairs of monsters.
He carries tools and gear with him when he travels: lantern, rope, tent, bedroll, axe, awl, cook pot, tinderbox etc. He is clever with tools.
He has no psychic ability, no natural magic, (His alchemical skills are all learned.) and no proficiency with any weapon, although he is generally athletic and tough and aware. He admires battle skills, and would not be adverse to learning some.
