We've mentioned this the last couple of years on the FST, but no one has brought it up yet for 2008, so I thought I would. Is anyone participating in NaNoWriMo this year? What's the story you're writing about? What have your past experiences with the contest been?

For those who don't know, NaNoWriMo (Nation Novel Writing Month) is a writing contest that takes place every November. Anyone can participate. The goal is to write a 50,000 word novel of any genre (nothing that would be published by a major company, just something that's minimally coherent.) For more information on what it's all about and how to participate, you can visit the official site itself: www.nanowrimo.org.

If you're interested in participating, though, note that the clock has already started! That leaves you with about 29 days to write 50k words (if your intention is even to finish that much, which it certainly doesn't have to be.)

2006 winner and 2007 loser here trying to go for the gold once again in 2008. I'm already way ahead of where I was in 2007 and have a respectable 4000 words logged.

If there's enough of us, we should start a social group and see our collective progress.

Two time loser trying for a third time, but I'm ahead of the game this year, so I am optimistic that the third time will be the charm.

I have 3560 words so far. :D

Everyone's so active and optimistic this year, I'm not surprised if many of us reach the 50k mark well before the Validator becomes official.

Currently at 5,517 but I think I'll stop writing for a few days to catch up on my overdue works.

I'm coming late to the game, but hell if I don't at least give it a try. I've wanted to try this for so long. I'm shooting high at 2,500 to 3,000 words a day starting tomorrow.

Edit: The website is being difficult, however.

Well, it's now December. How did NaNoWriMo turn out for everyone this year?

Pretty darn good (http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/127065)! About 85% done with the story as well, hoping to wrap up the first draft this week so I can ignore it for a month or two before coming back to rip it to shreds in the name of editing. :D

Typing the word sheep 50,000 times was exhausting but I finally managed it. I've created my master piece!

Over the Fence and Into Your Head!

The new revolutionary sleep aid! Thank you NaNoWriMo, if it weren't for your demand for a story to be 50,000 words with little in the way of barring idiots like me who can cheat their way into getting a free book with no content whatsoever it wouldn't have been possible!

Anyway. Although I think the contest is a crock, I salute the people who actually take it seriously. Good job to all those that finished.

Beat it by 49 words despite writing three major papers, rewriting one, handling two major tests, and assembling a media presentation. While holding down a full time job.

Bahahahahaha.

Yeah. I'm at the border of York and Cumberland counties. Practically on the river.
