LadyAeldra
11-13-08, 03:53 PM
Name: Lady Aeldra (though close friends call her Elle).
Age: Between 17 and 19 years old, though not even she knows for sure.
Race: Mostly human, with some elvish blood.
Hair Color: A dark, almost blood-red.
Eye Color: Emerald green, with traces of brown.
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 120 lbs
Occupation: Bardess usually, though she doesn't dislike more physical work.
Personality: At times thoughtful and introverted, at times playful and childish. She is not quick to anger, nor does she often display intense emotion. She has few fears, among them fire and wild dogs. She enjoys the company of animals and children, and seems to have a special bond with them, as if by being in their presence she becomes one of them.
Appearance: In private, she lets her shoulder-length hair down, but in public, she keeps it up or in braids. When she is feeling especially happy, she will wear a wreath of flowers or thistles in her hair. She often wears a simple green cotton dress, and although she often goes barefoot, she keeps with her a pair of tall leather boots for hiking in rough terrain. Though she rarely wears it, her most treasured posession is a silver necklace with tiny crystals woven into it, which once belonged to her mother.
History: Aeldra remembers little of her childhood, only that when she was a small child, her mother used to sing to her. Her first clear memory is of the smell of charred wood, the vile-smelling breath of a flesh-hungry wolf at her heels, and running for her life through a dark forest. It is this memory that haunts her dreams, and to which she often wakes up in the middle of the night, panting for breath.
Whatever happened before that night was lost to her. Sometime soon after, she was found by a troupe of travelling players, lying in the mud, wounded and bleeding where the wolf had bitten her right ankle. So they decided to let her stay with them, at least until her wounds were fully healed. At first, she was so frightened that she didn't dare to speak. When at last she had healed and she got over her fear, she surprised them all by joining in on a song that they were singing. Taken by her voice, the group decided that by having her train as a bardess, she could repay their kindness by earning money for them.
Twelve years passed, and Aeldra had seen many places and learned many songs in that time, but she began to feel restless. So one day, Aeldra announced that she was leaving the group, and though she would miss all of them, she decided that a life on her own and, perhaps one day, a family is what she longed for most.
Since then she has lived mostly off the land, travelling from town to town, working where she could, and searching for something, some clue that will fit together the scattered pieces of her life.
Skills:
Magic - Being part elf, Aeldra can use a little bit of magic. She knows only a few magic words in an ancient elfin language, and they do not always work. These are the words she currently knows (In parentheses is the extent of her ability with the word):
Adurna - Water (a small puddle)
Garjzla - Light (a small ball of light or short flash)
Waise heil - Be healed (heals small cuts and scrapes)
Kveykva - Lightening (a small spark)
Slytha - Sleep (only one person for a few minutes)
In order for the words to work, she must first think of the way in which she will use them. For example, if she is in a dark cave, she could think I need a light in front of me, so I can see where I am going. and summon exactly what she has in mind by saying "Garjzla!" (light). There is one setback to this type of magic, though. It uses up as much energy to do it by magic as it would to do the same work in a normal way, in this case by lighting a torch. Some spells leave her weakened, while others can leave her unconscious if it takes up too much energy. This is why Aeldra rarely uses her magic. Her necklace is a source of energy, though it isn't magical on it's own. This is why she will often seem to hold her hand to her heart when trying to cast magic.
Other - Other than her unreliable magic, she is quite quick on her feet. Though she isn't very strong, and not very likely to strike a blow, she can easily avoid one.
Equipment: Aeldra is a young lady of few posessions. In addition to her cotton dress, leather boots, and woven silver necklace, she has a pouch where she keeps her coins, a small hunting knife(though she hardly ever uses it), and a scroll and quill that she uses to write down any songs that come to her.
