Name: Virgil Pallas Argenti V’aldobrahn
Age: 29
Race: Human
Hair color: Black
Eye color: Green
Height: 5’11
Weight: 161 lbs

Appearance:
At first look Virgil doesn’t seem much different than any one else. He has black hair that stands straight up in all directions, untouched by a comb or any other such device. He has a long moustache that runs down his face and a short beard. He has a rather gruff looking face, that makes him always look angry, even if hes not. He has bright green eyes with bushy eyebrows and a pointy nose. He is tall and fairly well built, not overly large and muscular but a certain hidden strength in him. He wears a large button up shirt that runs to his thighs and is tied down by his cloth belt. In his belt he wears his sword tucked between him and the belt, tilted backward, and also his companion sword the same way on his other side. He wears short pants (or long shorts) that end a little before the ankles and have leather padding over the knees. His shoes are made of thin leather and go up to his ankles.

Personality:
When talking to Virgil he may not act the fight type, but he is. He never lets his guard down, even in conversations with friends or a nighttime meal, his mind is always thinking. He is always on the edge of his seat, trying not to look tense, and he’s gotten quite good at it. Most of the time he is a pleasant person, but there are some things that will make him angry. When talking to him he may seem a bit egotistical, and that’s because he is. He lives life just for the sake of living; he enjoys rum and just plain thinking, nothing too stressful. He is suspicious of anyone who has firm beliefs in anything and wont hesitate to show it. The only activity he truly enjoys is sword fighting, he has been doing it his whole life and it has become his passion. Up until now he has wasted his days on living and hasn’t given true thought to his calling of being warrior. He has fought, but only when he needed to, only recently he has gotten renewed motivation, and for this he now spends most of his time practicing, trying to get better.

History:
Virgil doesn’t seem to care about history of any kind, the future is more important than the past to him. He rarely tells stories, and when they are they are simple and of unimportant matters. The best history that can be got out of him are short.

Virgil lived as a normal boy for most of his childhood. One day at the age of thirteen a warrior came to his small town and defeated the local master, from this day forward he was in love with sword fighting. His father being a sailor wanted him to join the trade of course, but the boy wouldn’t do it. He remembered his grandfather had a sword hidden away in his house somewhere so he went there. He was refused it and in his rage he beat the old man unconscious and stole the sword. He left the town that day and never returned.

He adopted the fighting style he saw the warrior use, and became proficient in it. And soon after was able to fight and defeat almost anyone. And for the next fourteen years of his life he spent using that sword and style in every way possible.

One day while traveling he came across a large city of fighters, and after an inspection by the leaders was given the opportunity to stay and train. Virgil ,being an opportunist, quickly accepted. The main study of the city was the Way of strategy, and Virgil already strong in the fighting style, quickly became a noted warrior throughout the city. Although he also was disliked by the leaders because he only believed in the fighting section of strategy, and not the mental and spiritual.

After two years of distaste, he was forced to leave after a lost duel to one of the masters. He was told not to come back until he fully understood the Way, but that’s not to say he wasn’t joyous. He was amazed at the old mans skill, and he who had become the best in swordsmanship was defeated by him. In all he was eager to learn how such a man could have such skill, and he eventually figured that it must have been what he refused to study. So he set out again, with a renewed hope for the future, that he might one day be able to return and defeat the old man, that is if he’s not already dead from age.

Abilities:
The Way of Strategy
To say the least, strategy is a form of swordplay. But more than just a common school of fighting, strategy is an art form, it encompasses the whole body and spirit. It is the art of the warrior, it teaches the craft as a whole, made to overcome any man. Strategy teaches to understand yourself and your opponent by understanding the world, and by doing this you will be able to defeat any man.

Passive:

Two swords, one heaven - ABOVE AVERAGE:
The main focus of the school of strategy. The term “two swords, one heaven” refers to the style where the user uses two swords in battle, one long sword and one companion sword. Although the two swords are not always used together in battle it is taught to be fluid in both as well as being able to use a long sword one handed in either hand.
Swordplay--- Through years of practice Virgil has become ABOVE AVERAGE in this form of swordplay.

Stance - BELOW AVERAGE:
Stance is an important part of battle. Normally it is a very basic form, not relying too heavily on any one type of fighting. It relies mostly on the warrior to use it to its fullest. Stance in the way is not only footwork, it is the fighting style that changes as the warrior see fit to efficiently combat any style necessary. Each stance has its own timing just as each school of swordplay has its own style. It is important for a warrior for a warrior to adjust his stance (and henceforth his timing) in almost every situation. The way the warrior knows what stance to use is by watching his opponent for his spirit, and when that is known, through understanding of the void it can be put to use in stance. It is taught that you must be able to adapt to any style of martial arts as the need arises.
Stance --- Virgil is BELOW AVERAGE in stance, and for this he can only change it very little. This skill allows him to change his stance to one that will be most efficient against the battle style he is fighting.

There are two important factors that make up stance, and consequently the warrior:

A. Timing - AVERAGE:
Timing in essence is much more than just governing speed. It is understanding the nature of the subject, what is shown and what is not shown. The art of timing governs the overall skill of the swordplay, it is what gives the warrior his advantage. It manages the fluidity of the sword-fencing, and by training this it will allow the user to the opponents slightest movements and judge his accordingly. The users timing can only be as good as his understanding of the void, because true timing can only be realized when the void itself is realized. It can also never be higher than the weapons skill because timing directly effects the swordplay.
Timing --- 1.5x’s faster reaction time.
-Greater chance of apprehending the opponents next action.
-Greater chance of landing a critical blow equal to 2x’s average attack power.

B. The Void (passive) - BELOW AVERAGE:
The void is that which is not. The void is nothingness. By far one of the most difficult concepts to grasp, but once understood strategy in its fullest will unfold. To know the void is to know what does not exist, and to know what does not exist one must know what does exist. This is the concept of the void.

The void can only be understood by cleansing the spirit. This is done by practicing the techniques of the way and by studying other schools of martial arts to gain full comprehension in all that exists. And by doing so all misunderstanding will be washed away to leave the spirit clean, and that is the void.
The purpose of the void in most basic levels is to have a perfectly clear mind so that you can understand the way in its fullest, when this is done all deviations can be seen clearly in battle and be exploited.
The void --- Understanding the void gives Virgil the ability to see the spirit of everything around him. At his current level of BELOW AVERAGE Virgil can see the spirit of his enemy and know in what ways to change his stance, although what he sees may not be correct.
-This also gives him mental stability, decreasing his susceptibility to mental assaults.

Gaze (passive) - The ability to look up, down, left, and right with moving his eyes. This ability has taken Virgil years to master, although worth it.

Equipment:
Basic silk armor - A shirt and pants made from cheap silk. Offers minor defense against slashing attacks.
Katana - Virgil’s family heirloom, it is over two hundred years old. After strenuous use the once great blade is now no better than a average steel katana.
Wakizashi - Virgil’s companion sword, it is 24 inches long and made of steel.

Im sure you can tell this character still needs work, but I thought i'd get it posted before I lose my inspiration.

Just a few things, The Void is an interesting concept, but its confusing me... lol. What does it mean to 'see the spirit' of an enemy? And Does this skill simply govern what stance you assume during battle?

lol yeah, it is kind of hard to understand.
When i say spirit i do not actually mean a spirit, it is just a name given to an idea. Spirit, basically, is the heart and mind of the opponent, and the base of all things. So if you were to study the enemies spirit, it would be the very base of the enemy, where he is mentaly, and in himself where he isnt even conscious of. To think it in a battle sense, it would be to see his style of fighting or his mental state just by seeing what he shows on the outside. And this is why its so important for the void, because the void is to be able to see what does not exist by knowing what does exist. So seeing what the enemy does physically will show all else about him and when that is known a proper stance can be made to counter that spirit.

And as for part two of your question. At the moment yeah pretty much, except for the little part about mental stability, I just added that in so it wouldnt be only about stance. It is mostly a mental ability, so in the end it will be more than just about stance, but for now stance is about all Virgil is capable of changing through this.

Well, i just spent about thirty minutes trying to find a way to explain spirit, lol, but i got it. I hope this helped you undertsand it little more. If you need more explainations dont hesitate to tell me.:)

As a philosophy major your delving into my territory, and I could argue the point, but won't because this is a game, hahaha. I like that your are going for something different, and I'll give you props for that. As for 'knowing' all the information that the void can offer, just make sure that you don't power game that and it doesn't always work on people higher level than you, if at all depending on their level...

It's basically a form of mind reading, in a way, and should be very closely watched and carefully used. I don't see why I can't approve it, since you are below average with the skill. If you do powergame it though, it will be caught by the mods and you can loose valuable points off your score for it.

Other than philosophical view points in conflict, haha, you are APPROVED!
