Steamrow
07-06-06, 12:37 AM
Name: Daniel Steamrow (Or Dan, Danny)
Alias(s): Sparrow
Affiliation: Special Paranormal Investigation and Assault Team "Knights of the Order"
Position/Occupation: Medium

Current Age: 20
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 170lbs
Hair Color/Style: Black, shoulder length, bangs falling over his forehead to cover his right eye slightly.

Physical Features (Scars, Tattoos, etc.): Daniel has a thin, gangly frame, with little to no muscle tone, which often presents concern when he's sent out into the field. Due to a past incident, he is missing his right eye, though when he is channeling Laudley, it will be filled with a strange amethyst glow. Currently, he wears a pair of small glasses with a black plastic frames, due to a near lifetime of bad eyesight. A few scars decorate his torso, which appear to have been caused by claws.

Personality: You know that kind of guy that people have a tendency to steer clear of? Not because he's big, and bad, and has one hell of a reputation, but because of the feel about him? That's Daniel. Daniel seems to exude some sort of air that makes most uncomfortable about him, and his often quiet lips tends to make people drop attempted conversations with him. He's gloomy, and always appears to be either forlorn, sad, or very tired, and very few have managed to see him crack a smile. In truth, it's simply because he has a tight rein on his emotions; keeping them under lock and key can save an medium nine times out of ten.

Clothing: Usually simple street clothes when not on the field, but when in battle, he wears tight grey jeans (to avoid snagging), and an untucked black tailored button down shirt with a white cross on the left shoulder. At all times, he wears an iron cross on a leather thong.

Family Members:
- Diane Steamrow (Mother, Deceased)
- David Robbins (Father, Location/Status Unknown)
- Roxanna Steamrow (Younger Sister, Alienated, Status Unknown)

Special Skills:
- Channeling: The process of calling his spiritual counterpart, Laudley, to his side from the other realm. Laudley is incorporeal and cannot affect anything of the physcal realm, and cannot be seen by the normal eye. Daniel must have a few moments of concentration to call on Laudley, in which he is highly susceptible to attacks on his body. While rare, there have a been a few occurrences when Daniel has channelled without his free will. While in this state, if he is not careful, Daniel can possibly channel the wrong spirit, and if so happens, damage willed onto him by the spirit will manifest in physical wounds.
- Blacksight: A common ability with all mediums, it allows Daniel to see the dead. However, his has been developed further, to be able to see a person's aura, and can, at time, tell if something is wrong. It also has the added benefit of allowing him to see far better in the dark than any normal man could, but sudden bright lights have the danger of possibly inducing permanent damage to his eye.
- Channeling, Cord 2: By opening up his mind, spirit, and body, Daniel allows Laudley to possess him and harmonizes with the spirit, giving him greater powers than what he had before. Currently, they include brief levitation (about a foot off the ground), and physical and spiritual attributes one and a half times of what they usually would be. In this state, Daniel cannot use anything but his knife, or it will break the cord with Laudley. Following this breif union (a full four posts), Daniel will be nearly exhausted and need a rest.

Secondary Skills:
- Knifesmanship: While he's not very strong, Daniel has quick, sure fingers that allow him to be skilled with a knife. (Average)
- Gunmanship: Daniel hasn't had any experience with other guns, save for his SMG. He only fires short three or five bullet bursts with it, or the recoil would knock his aim farther off path than what it usually is. He is, however, without his gun presently. (Above Average)

Deficiencies:
- Dan has a low amount of strength, and cannot handle most firearms. Most attempts to teach him close combat techniques have met with failure when he couldn't handle the strict training regiments.
- Due to his missing right eye, Daniel still has difficulty with his depth perception, but is usually a good shot -- usually.
- His left ankle is weaker than his right, having broken it when he was eighteen. It may buckled under intense physical duress.

Weapons: A thirteen inch stainless steel combat knife.

History:

Laudley - It's unclear presently just who Laudley was in his life. While other mediums have tried, they haven't been able to get anymore info from him that what Daniel has been able to. Still, the spirit and the boy share a strong bond, as though somehow they'd once known each other.

Daniel Kingston Steamrow was born in the small town of Greenville, Pennsylvania to a single, young mother named Diane Steamrow. His father, David Robbins had disappeared mysteriously a month prior, but his absence in young Daniel's life was not often felt. The boy's grandparents helped her raise him the best they could, both unaware of the power growing in the boy, though his mother knew it well. Friendless for the most part, by the second grade, he began speaking to an imaginary friend named Laudley in his free time, and was often teased for it. Laudley quickly became his only friend, and when odd things began to happen around their household, the boy's grandparent's took him to a psychologist to discover the route of the problem.

Despite his eagerness top develop the case as a does of schizophrenia, the child's answers could barely point to it, and the doctor eventually gave him a clean bill of health, but scheduled Daniel for more appointments. As the years rolled by, and the boy reached puberty, his tales to the doctor became slightly more morbid with sightings off those none else could see. By the time he reached fifteen, his sensitivity had grown to three times what it should normally be, and he began to experience a strange psychomagnetic pull to a nearby town. Eventually, he indulged his curiosity and was drawn to a rickety old two story house out beyond the trees.

By the third day had been missing, the authorities were contacted and began the search. Dan had, on occasion, went off on his own somewhere for days on end, but usually he'd take his phone with him and tell someone or another where he was planning on going. A week later, after one of his schoolmates recalled him mentioning the house in brief and cold conversation, Dan was discovered there; dried blood running a stripe of maroon down the right side of his face where his eye had been, his shirt in tatters, his torso bloody from wounds caused by what appeared to be claws. A shudder rippled through those gathered as he was lead out to an ambulance, a blanket draped over his shoulders.

He was smiling.

Five years falling, his sensitivity peaked, rivaling the abilities of most mediums in their fifties. His files were drawn up regarding the Jamestown House Incident, and within three months of his twentieth birthday, Dan was approached by a government agent about the Knights of the Order. After sitting down with him at a cafe', Dan was convinced to enlist.

Within a few months, he was sent out on his first mission with a few others, to halt a cult's activity who were being reckless with black magic. In the fray, Daniel was sucked into an enchanted doorway opened by one of the cultists, and after falling several feet, found his fall broken by a canopy of trees. He soon discovered that he had been separated from his primary weapon, and that this place was the farthest thing from home. His abilities had been severely affected by the black magic used to create the doorway; to the point they were at an intermediate level. After gathering himself, the medium set off to find some way home.
