View Full Version : Your Plans For Your Character?

Now I know I'm not the only one on this site who has visions of his character in the future. Whether it be as close as the next quest or as far as level six, we all think about it. I thought it would be cool to share some of those ideas. I have several ideas, but here are a few.
Afzel's Family: Here's the kicker about his family. His mother and father adopted all five of their kids, a blind Raiaeran Elf, a Demon, another Half Elf, Afzel, and a Human. Even though that's as far as I've gone, I created them for the express purpose of future character development. I don't think I've ever seen anyone write an entertaining but stable family dynamic. Some soap opera shit has to make them interesting. I think that's a crutch, and even though some interesting things may befall the Chandras, I want to be able to make them entertaining on their own. That means I have to develop them as I introduce them into Afzel's plots. I'm already doing that with one of Afzel's siblings in Black Masquerade (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?p=134311#post134311). I'll introduce them one by one, with all that character work culminating in a solo quest with all the developed family members interacting with each other.

Hmmm..... maybe have Setsuna grow stronger. I think that's the main reason for my story. But no real plans asides from traveling around and meeting the people, I guess. Maybe hunt a few large monsters, since that's what she is trained to become one day. ^^;

Kially will eventually become a very merciful and pure God, renowned and loved for his talents, whilst he still continues to grow and purify that of Althanas.

So... No one here is thinking out the future for their character like I am? Oh god, I gotta get a life.

I have MetalDrago's future planned out well in advance. He's going to be evil, and will probably turn on many of his friends in the process.

I'm pretty sure everyone does exactly like you do, Chan, but since everyone's also planning on writing those futures in solos, quests and battles, they don't want to spoil it for those who do read their stories by making an extensive summary here, or anywhere for that matter. I guess it's for the sake of suspense, so you'll have to forgive us.
But hrm, to contribute a little... I've got over seven IC years planned for my character, but she still has to age one year since her level 0 profile. So yes, big-ass future. It involves warped myths and a motorcycle. No, really.

Honestly, I have no future for any of my characters, which is why they fit in ANY story I feel like putting them in... hahaha. Sorry man, but no future story here other than making Task better than anyone else... Garwocket is going to learn some kick ass abilities that have nothing to do with anything... Ranger is going to be reincarnated as a guy, who kills things, and hates religion....
that's about it... hahaha

Same here, nothing planned...I had something in my mind for a second, but then it all changed because I'm lazy.

My guy is entirely on a tipping point. I think he could be very good as an evil character, and he would seem to tend that way. I just can't see him ever doing anything "big time" evil though. I don't know how to explain it. He's kind of nice, deep deep down. Really deep down. Really, really deep down.
In the vast distant future I'd like him to be a leader of goblins, trying to stop their oppression. What happens to him between now and when he gains that kind of power will entirely determine how he uses it. Trying to stop typical goblin stereotypes of being brutish and uncivilized, and bargaining for peace MIGHT be an option. So might all out war...
I personally always have a vague sense of direction in which I want to take my characters, but human mind tends so be rather unpredictable and so does Althanas. I had at least three different versions how I wanted to continue Letho's story, but as the story progressed, the outcome started to change. But I figure that's kind of the point. Having everything charted out to the smallest detail is no fun. Why would you want to take the train and ride on the rails when you can go off-road and have an adventure?

I can testify to derailing one of those trains. Dude was reluctant, but it made sense. Made for a much better story in my opinion, and gave Letho some much needed, humanity. ;)

I agree with you and Letho wholehartedly. It's not like I've ploted out every detail of my character's future, and it's not like I'm asking anyone who does that to spill all the beans. Like you guys I have a vague idea of what I want his future to be, vague enough to the point that I can progress his storyline in almost any quest or battle I put him in. I don't know every detail of every one of Afzel's siblings, and I don't want to be one of those guys who can't participate in a quest because it doesn't seem like it will fit into their overall plan.

Ah, sorry to have misunderstood you then, Chandra!
Then I'm very much like that, too. I might have a fair bit more than guidelines planned, but I've never really gotten to writing about the milestones of my characters' stories, mostly because I always jump into quests that have little or nothing to do with the plan. What's fun is that all of the threads I've completed with other people somehow actually became a part of the plan.
Lessee... an example of the things I've planned for her would be her future projects, since she intends to one day build a library in Fallien and an orphanage in Knife's Edge, as books and family are the things with which she grew up in excess and in absence, respectively. The Cosmic Horror part doesn't come in until way, way later, though she intends to return to Fallien to know more about her apocryphal lineage, and pretty soon at that.

I feel bad, I've slacked a lot in my ideas for my chars. I've been altering them a bit, but they generall stay the same. course with stories, it's the journies that are fun, not the ending.
Leon I almost hope will end up retiring with a couple kids and Morrigan. How that will turn out I'm not sure. I will probably bring him further along his artsy stuff too.
Maia will eventually become a Goddess. Though, I'm more thinking old gods. Titan style where they are not merely protecters but the land themselves. It should be fun. Not sure if I'll follow through though.

...since she intends to one day build a library in Fallien and an orphanage in Knife's Edge...That's cool! My character was raised in an orphanage. His adoptive parents, who ran the orphanage thought that he and his siblings were never going to get adopted by regular people so they never put them on the adoption list. See there. We kind of got something in common.

I'm one of those super-obsessed rpers who has a lot of plans. Some of them work out, and some of them don't. I've gotten most of what I wanted with Lorenor so far. I am attempting to create one of Althanas' most feared and respected Villains. Lorenor's always been a bad guy, but there are multiple versions of him that exist in realities that are adjacent to Althanas. So basically I will be playing around with alt versions of Lorenor in an upcoming Solo Quest I have planned. Basically I am heavily into the Thaynehood, and Lorenor has become a follower of N'Jal.
In so doing, he discovered the three works of the Necronomicon and plans to exploit their full power in essence, bringing about a second Age of Darkness on Althanas. Eventually, I will have Lorenor transform into a full-blooded Spider Magi, and then learn of his true origins. From there, anything goes. But I have some storylines planned out for quests and things. So we'll see what gets done and what doesn't get done.

Cosmic Horror.
Of the sexy kind.
We need to RP together more. The idea of sexy cosmic horror has aroused my curiosity.
As for my character, I don't plan very far ahead. I think of his personality and past experiences and adapt to situations using them. Those situations in turn shape what he becomes. It keeps me interested, fits my time schedule well, and really allows a lot of flexibility with what I do. This way I don't have to limit him to certain tasks or meeting certain people. I can drop in anywhere with minimal preparation at full combat effectiveness.
... Like a Marine QRF in a hostage situation...
... Which is kind of like what Althanas is, one big hostage crisis...
