If Lice had been born a human, he would have been a mighty Paladin, bringing light to the darkness. But Lice was not born a human.

If Lice had been born an elf, he would have been a great protector of the natural and wild places in this world. But Lice was not born an elf.

If Lice had been born a dwarf, he would have been a great defender of order in the deep and dark places of this world, fighting against the powers of fire and shadow that lurk there. But Lice was not born a dwarf.

Lice was born a Goblin.

Name: Lice Grumalth
Age: 25
Race: Goblin
Hair Color: Bald
Eye Color: Green
Height: 5'3"
Weight: ~110 lb

Occupation: Former goblin Town Guard. He managed to hold onto that job for nearly two years, until he got kicked out for minor embezzlement. He then became an adventurer, and eventually found out that while he had no magical ability he did have strong spiritual abilities. Did he accept a god to follow? No, Lice discovered that he can leech off the divine that is all around him without the hassle of worshipping a god. Now Lice does all sorts of things, but primarily he actsas a representative for goblins everywhere, and as somewhat of a leader for their race. There is a heavy reactionary force against Lice among goblin society, however, and therefore he oftentimes ends up on random adventures and wanderings, always seking to increase his power.

Personality:
And so Lice lives as one of the many parasites of society. He feeds off the magic of others, and he feeds off the livelihood of others. He puts little faith in concepts of right or wrong. All that anyone can e expected to do is survive, is the opinion Lice has silently come to. He is not arrogant, and he is not brave. He does, however, have the sort of ranging vicious cowardice that is far more dangerous than bravery. Once upon a time he would have been willing to surrender to anyone immediately if he felt there was even a chance of their victory, but now Lice has a reputation to uphold among other goblins. Cowardice is acceptable, fleeing is acceptable, trickery is acceptable but immediate surrender is not. Theft is not below Lice, in fact he depends on it for survival. He has no problem with the small crimes like that. They are the simple tools of survival in a world where not only is the deck stacked against goblins, they have no cards at all. Still, Lice looks at how goblins are discriminated against and he has started to wonder where the cycle will and if his people can ever have peace. There is no way, though, that Lice would be described as 'evil.' A nuisance, sure, a thief, definitely, but not evil. Lice takes no pleasure in the misery of others, although he is mainly out for his own personal gain.
As Lice went through the past few years, his personality has changed somewhat. Hard times forced him to learn cunning and guile. While he still would not be classified as evil, he certainly is nothing approaching good either. As usual, he looks out for number one. However, despite this attribute, he has come to be a sort of a leader for some goblins. Many goblins look up to him with admiration, as he is willing and powerful enough to stand up to the humans. Despite his assurances to himself that he is perfectly self-interested, Lice has still been seen using his power to represent goblinkind in various circumstances, and to help other goblins whenever he can. Lice has a strong connection to other goblins and their plight, and he feels a kindred spirit with Goblin society as a whole. That is the one, single exception to Lice’s self interest: other goblins.
In addition to his leadership of goblins, Lice has developed a sort of intelligence over the years. It is unclear if this was simply a latent ability when he was younger, or if the influence of the divine magic he frequently channels has truly changed him, possibly in more ways than one. In reality it is probably a combination of the two.

History: Lice was born in a small, dirty goblin village in a small, dirty goblin house to a pair of small, dirty goblin parents. They gave a small, dirty name to their small and dirty child who they fully expected to have, well, a small and dirty life. He lived in a house with his 10-odd brothers and sisters, parents, and most of all his grandmother. His grandmother could probably be described as the most singularly strong influence in his life. She was a force of nature, a massive broad-shouldered woman who had lived to two times her life expectancy. She screamed and beat him as regularly as a clock, and he hated her more than anything else. She would end up outliving her son, his father, who died in an attack from a group of humans. His father's death did little to make his life worse off, I am sorry to say. He grew up in poverty and never has known anything else. He has a vague idea that perhaps there are some people out there who are "those rich bastards" and that for them, perhaps life is better. As a child he alternated between running odd jobs for neighbors and pickpocketing the same to get money. Eventually he was old enough to be forced out of the house until he found some employment. He happened upon the City Watch and was given a rusty sword and leather jerkin. There he stood at the town gate idly for long hours. It was as close to an ideal for him as possibly, actually. The job required little or no actual action, and his innate laziness was quite satisfied. The pay, however, was dismal. Eventually Lice was forced (in his mind...) to find other means to, ah, supplement his income. He took to taking the occasional coin from the widows and orphans box fund on the desk in the guardhouse. That went on for a few weeks until someone found out that the running tally on the fund was actually mysteriously running down. It didn't take long to trace the thefts back to Lice, and he was quickly run out of town. Barely looking back, and with the sword and armor he took from the guards Lice set off on his journey...

Along the way, Lice discovered that he had strong divine spell-casting ability. Lice never, however, has believed in any gods, even the god of Goblins. Still, he takes advantage of this power to its full extent. He hones it as much as possible, figuring out the best ways to channel the divine energy into useful means. Although he is entirely self-taught, Lice has become quite a powerful cleric (of sorts.) In a world where might-makes-right, this has automatically made him somewhat of a leader among goblins. Lice is unusual for a leader, however. Unlike most goblin leaders, who are essentially dictators, Lice cares about his people and their unfair treatment.

Abilities:

Swordsmanship: Lice has above average skill with a sword. He has abandoned that weapon, however, so it is not really well developed. Still, in a pinch Lice knows some tricks with the blade.

Pickpocketing/Thievery: Lice's nimble hands allow him to pickpocket with little risk of being caught. He also can manipulate machinery and all sorts of tasks that require developed small motor skills.

Cunning/Guile: Lice is incredibly persuasive and an incredible liar. His skills at bluffing are very well developed, from constant use over the years. Lice will always attempt to use his wits before he resorts to violence.

Fast Reflexes: Like most goblins, Lice is quick on his feet. From his combat experience, Lice has honed this and he can now move at speeds far above average for a goblin. A goblin can usually move quite a bit faster than a human, and Lice, thanks to his improved skills, can move about 2x as fast as a human when need be.

Polearm Mastery: Lice abandoned the use of the sword for another weapon quite a while ago. He has become very proficient with this unusual weapon, and can be considered an Expert when it comes to any pole arm, be it a long axe or halberd, simply a large pole, or even a simple spear.

His primary weapon is a trident-like polearm.

An Overview of the Magic of Lice Grumalth:

Lice depends on energy he takes from the environment to cast his spells. There is enough residue divine energy that he can channel it without fear of running out. That energy is said to come from the gods, Lice theorizes that it is just left over from the many religious wars that priests participated in. That is not to say, however, that Lice has an infinite amount of power. It is very taxing on Lice's small body to channel the atmospheric energy, and so he is limited in his abilities.
I have quantified Lice's limitations in two different ways. The first is Number of Casts. This assumes that Lice used no other spells at all that day, and so is not particularly useful except as a gauge. The other is Energy Use. This measures how much of Lice's overall energy a spell uses. When Lice reaches 0% he is still conscious, but barely. He can do nothing else except rest and sleep for the rest of the day. Below 0% Lice is knocked out and incapacitated. The farther in the negatives the most serious the damage to himself, and the longer it will be before he recovers. Below -50% Lice will die. Please note that all percentages I give are approximations. Lice is aware of all of them, from experimenting over the years with his own magic use. He knows the rules of all his own spells.

Power Gauge: The first time Lice used magic, he over dipped and knocked himself out immediately. Since then he has been extraordinarily careful. Using a negligible amount of magic, Lice can look within himself to determine how much energy he possesses. Recently he has learned to use this ability to gauge the power levels of other people. While most people can see physical strength easily, Lice is able to see whether his opponent is a spellcaster and, if so, how powerful.

If anyone makes a SINGLE reference to "what does the power scouter say about his power level" or "his power level is over 9001!!!11!one!!!11" in reference to Lice's use to this ability I will punch your face, through the internet, so hard that your CHARACTERS will feel it. I hope this is understood.

Healing: Strangely enough, Lice has put a lot of energy into honing this strength. Using divine energy he can heal wounds, including his own. The amount of energy it takes for Lice to heal a wound is directly proportionate to the severity of the wound. He can heal a near infinite amount of minor wounds before becoming exhausted, and a substantial number of light wounds. His ability to heal drops off fast, and he can only heal 20 moderate wounds or 10 severe wounds as well. Lice can only 2 lethal wounds per day. I've laid it out in chart format to make it easier to see:

Healing Chart:
Wound------------------------Number of Casts------------------Energy Use
Minor-------------------------As many as he wants---------------------0%
Light--------------------------Approximately 100-----------------------1%
Moderate----------------------------20--------------------------------5%
Severe------------------------------10-------------------------------10%
Lethal-------------------------------2--------------------------------50%

Severity of Wounds Index that I have used, in modern terms:
There is a bit of wiggle room, but these are the categories I have used:
Minor: Not something you would go to the doctor for. A scrape or bruise. Comparable to what a 6 year old gets falling off their bike. No threat.
Light: A little more serious than minor. You would go to the doctor for this one, but not in an ambulance and you would not go to the hospital. A wound that would require stitches. No threat for death.
Moderate: You would go to the emergency room for this one. It would require medical attention, and certainly stitches. I don't have a good quantifier for this other than "in between Light and Severe." This is the broadest category, and most wounds incurred in the course of combat come under this heading.
Severe: Something you would seek immediate medical attention for. Very dangerous, and could possibly kill you if left untreated. Comparable to a wound you might get in a car accident.
Lethal: It doesn't matter, not even modern medicine could save you now. You are still alive, but on borrowed time. The simplest definition is "A wound that will kill you."

Lice can also heal poison and disease. These are much more difficult, however, and he has not yet perfected it. Consider a "minor" disease or poison, like a cold to be a Moderate difficulty spell for Lice. Consider a "light" disease to be Severe, and so on. This is mainly important for curing poisons.
Any disease Lice cures will still take time to recover from. It isn't an instant cure, it is merely a buffer for the body's natural defenses.

Neutral Turning: This is similar to the classic "Turn Undead" spells. Turn Neutral, however, applies to mindless creatures of any alignment. Only very weak-willed creatures, however, can be affected such as animals or the non-sentient undead. The effect on the targets is to flee in terror from Lice, as far as is possible. There is also a small chance that it kills some creatures, if they are weak enough.
Casts per day: Six
Energy use: About 16%
Number of Creatures Turned: Up to 10. By using more energy Lice can turn more creatures, with an exchange rate of 2% additional energy equal to 1 additional creature, and to a maximum of 20 creatures.

Illusion: Lice is a master of cunning, and it is natural that he would turn to the use of his magic for just that purpose. Arcan magic, however, is many times more effective for prestidigitation and Lice's abilities to create illusions or do tricks is very limited. A "full immersive illusion," one that tricks the target into thinking that they are in another location, is beyond Lice at this point.
He can, however, create illusions of anything to within 5 feet of himself. This aids his bluffing skills as he can make himself appear stronger. The larger the illusion, the more energy use, and that has to be gauged on a case-by-case basis. Whether a target believes the illusion is entirely based on how much energy Lice puts into it and how much willpower they have. The believability of the illusion also factors in.
Casts per Day: Depends on the size and duration
Energy Use: Base use of 5%. Additional 1% for additional square foot's distance around Lice. Additional 1% for every minute of duration.

Divine Leech: Lice can renew his own energy in two ways. First of all, he can sleep. He doesn't need to meditate or pray or anything, he just needs to renew his physical energy. The second way is if Lice does battle with another Divine spellcaster. Lice can take energy from a purely Holy or purely Unholy attack and feed on it, using it for his own gain. The harm that Lice takes from such attacks is equal to what they would normally do without the divine aspect. For example, if Lice is being the target of a smite by a holy warrior, he still will feel the actual sword, just the actual holy power of the blow will be negated and sucked up. If Lice manages to evade or block such an attack, he can use the residue in the air and still feed on it
Arcane energy is strange-smelling and useless to Lice for the purposes of replenishing his energy. Lice can never go above his normal maximum level of energy, 100%, he can only regain what is lost.
This power does not take up any energy.
Lice can only suck up 60% of any individual attack directed against him. The rest strikes as normal.

Imbue with Flame: Lice can imbue his weapons with divine fire, obviously making them more powerful.
Energy cost: 2% per minute of flame, 5% to begin maintaining this ability.

Neutral Smite: Lice can smite in the manner of other Divine Spellcasters. It does not matter whether his opponent is good or evil to Lice though. They are simply his opponent. Smiting makes Lice's attack much more powerful by essentially combining a buff of himself and his weapon into one blow. Lice has enhanced strength and power, and his weapon is literally larger and sharper. This increases the force of Lice's blow by approximatly 2.5x.
Energy cost: 10%

Enhanced Speed: Lice utilizes his magic to increase his speed. At a cost of 2% of his energy per minute, Lice can maintain a speed approximately twice that of a normal human. For 5% per minute, he can maintain a speed at three times that of a normal human. And so on andso forth, with each level gaining a bit of inefficiency in energy in addition to the base cost of 2%.
This is an incredibly important ability for Lice, and he utilizes it almost always. Because he is a goblin and his physical body is very weak, it is important for him to be able to dodge attacks.

Equipment:
Trident: Lice primarily uses a mythril trident-like weapon. It is a trident with the bottom half of the three prongs covered by a bowl or sheath. The middle prong is 2 feet long, and the two side prongs are about 2 inches less. The shaft of the trident is four feet tall. Lice carries this weapon like a wizard or Shaman would carry his staff. It is frequently the focus of his weapon oriented abilities. The story behind the Trident is that Lice was searching for a holy weapon to focus his aggressive magics into. He needed a weapon that was considered holy or unholy, in order that it would not immediately be destroyed. Frustrated at his search, Lice picked up the trident and shouted that he declares this weapon to be holy, and let any God or Goddess that wish to dispute him come down and do so. There was no answer, but when Lice channeled his magic into the weapon it was not destroyed.
Armour: Lice wears a hodge-podge of various types of armor. It is difficult to find truly high quality armor for goblins, so he wears a breastplate originally intended for a dwarf. It is made of steel, and does not cover his arms. The breastplate also has a symbol that Lice painted on it. It is a depiction of the head of his trident, and it looks like this:

http://noodleguy.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/goblin-symbol.jpg

That ought to help explain the appearance of his weapon as well.

On his head Lice wears a round steel helmet with a chin strap. His arms and legs are uncovered, and he wears sandals on his feet.
Fighting Style:
Lice dislikes combat as a way to solve problems, and he will try to avoid it by any means necessary. If he is forced into combat, however, he will prefer a mid-ranged battle. Lice prefers to keep his distance from his opponents, and to keep his opponents distance from him. That is why he uses polearms. At a very close range or a very far range Lice is nearly useless.
Lice depends heavily on his divine magic in combat. He uses it to heal himself, to bedazzle his enemy, and to greatly increase the strength of his attacks. Although his weapon would be cumbersome for many, Lice has great speed that is enhanced with his magic. He uses this to evade attacks as best as possible. When his enemy’s guard is open he will dive in and attack.

There are two basic categories that society can be put into…Predator and Prey. A predator is one who hunts others for joy, and steals their lives. We call their aggression "Evil." Prey are those who flee from the Predators. We call their self-defense "Good."

But there is a third category. They are the parasites of society, those who take advantage of others, surviving by living off another's production. They are the pickpockets, they are the drunks, they are the Goblins. They are the Lice in the hair of society.

So I see you decided to try out the tournament. ^^ I wish you luck.

Enhanced Speed - Lice can only enhance his speed to a maximum of 6x that of the average human.

Neutral Smite - I'm not sure I understand how this makes his attacks more powerful? The fire one just adds flame to his weapons, but what exactly does this one do?

Divine Leech - can only absorb 20-60% of the magic spell it is focusing on, the rest of it will still attack Lice like normal. Also, this skill cannot be used to make magic attacks weaker, it can only be used when Lice needs to replenish himself.

Fast Reflexes - Lice can move at a normal speed of 2x that of an average human.

Other - you can't really have an 'other' category. When we say that you can leave your spells open ended, it means that your character can create a sphere of light. But, you can use that sphere for different things, you can throw it at your enemy, or use it to light a dark tunnel...etc. All of your spells have to be listed, so if you have any more, please list them when you edit in the approve changes.

No problem with Enchanced Speed or Fast Relfexes. Or the 'other' category, that's fine.

Absorbing 60% for Divine Leech is alright, but why can't it make magic attacks weaker? That's essentially the point. Resistant to Divine coupled with the fact that divine magic makes Lice stronger (well, replentishes energy.)
All I mean is, it isn't a shield but when you suck 60% of the force behind an attack out it makes that attack 60% weaker. Not taking into consideration the physical force of being cleaved in half with an axe or something, Leech does nothing against THAT.

And I did add in that it can't work on arcane magic...so a minority of spells are probably effected anyway. Just those used by the undead (haha, vampire, just realized that) and those used by a priest or somebody...

Neutral Smite I will make more specific.

All right, I think it was my fault with the shield thing. What I meant is for him to only use the absorbing power when he actually needs it, not just to make magic attacks weaker for the heck of it. So, if he's at 100% there's no point in absorbing magic, but if he's at 80% he can use it. And yes, when he does use it, it will make the magic attacks that much weaker.

Approverized!
