Name: Tristam the Chronicler
Age: 22
Race: Human
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Brown
Height: 5’10
Weight: 140lbs
Occupation: Historian

Personality: Tristam is a quiet, good natured fellow. He is an excellent listener because he finds just about any topic interesting to learn about. When asked a question however, Tristam responds accurately and at length. Being thought an honest scholar is of paramount importance to Tristam. If challenged on a point of fact, he will not let it go until resolving that he is right or wrong. Similarly, he will not let a lie go unchallenged. Tristam is driven by the acquisition of knowledge and will jump at the chance to plunge into the unknown before anyone else.

Appearance: Tristam is a tall thin man with gangly limbs and lank brown hair slicked back over his head. He typically dresses in simple clothes of green and brown with jerkin of thick leather for armor if needed. When traveling Tristam carries a iron shod quarterstaff but more likely his hands would be filled with parchment and quill as he takes notes on the world around him. His backpack and belt pouches are crammed full of items found worthy of further study.

History: Tristam was born into the religion of a minor god of knowledge named Aurelius. His followers believed that it was the highest duty to increase the sum of knowledge in the world and that whenever possible a person should learn things on his own rather than be taught. Accordingly, Tristam grew up around very learned men and women that would never tell him anything. His childhood was frustrating but by his age of maturity, Tristam had grown into an independent and self-reliant young scholar with a deep interest in the world around him. He was then fully invested as a priest of Aurelius and given the mandate to go forth and discover the truth. His father gifted him with a quarter staff and his mother gave him a leather bound journal to record his findings. So armed, Tristam left his home and sought out adventure and knowledge where he would find it.

Skills:

Linguist: Tristam has a natural ability with languages that is enhanced by his god. Even in a language he has never encountered before, Tristam can pick out key words and the general tone of conversation. Given a day, Tristam can communicate in a limited fashion and in a week have simple conversations. In a few months, Tristam is fluent.

Academic fighting style: Tristam has read extensively about the major fighting styles of his home culture such that he can talk very knowledgeably about them to veteran fighters. In practice however, Tristam is merely below average with the quarterstaff and dagger as he lacks the practical experience and reflexes to perform any of them.

Throwing: One of Tristam’s few hobbies is the throwing of darts. Initially he learned as a way to get people talking in taverns but grew to love the game for its own sake. He also decided to put his skill at throwing to good use for self defense. He has average skill at throwing darts and his specially made pouches of powder.

Herbalist: Tristam is trained to forage for useful plants in the wild and turn them into medicines and other useful preparations. Recently, he has turned a few of his preparations into weapons. Both are useful only at close range since a direct hit to the face is required to affect their target.

Pouch of pepper: This is simply a pouch of irritating spice that will cause a momentary sneezing fit if thrown into the face of an attacker.

Sleeping powder: Really it should be called a drowsy powder as the formula is still too weak. When hit in the face, the target becomes lethargic and slow for a few minutes.

Equipment: Iron shod oak quarterstaff, set of three steel throwing darts, small iron dagger, a seemingly endless supply of paper, ink and quills, pouches of herbs both medicinal and as weapons, thick leather jerkin, backpack of adventurer’s gear i.e. food, bedroll, torches, etc.
