Name: Grensch Livereater
Age: 25
Sex: Male
Height: 6'10"
Weight: 330 pounds.
Hair Colour: None
Eye Colour: Black
Occupation: Cutthroat, mercenary, robber, marauder.
Personality: The merrow is a simple being to understand; he likes the way gold shines, he likes hurting beings smaller than him, he likes eating fresh, raw meat, and he likes both stabbing people in the throat and squeezing the life out of their bodies. Grensch distrusts and hates elves the most, as they are the primary hunter of his species, with humans coming in at a close second, as they scan the swamps and rivers for the merrow too, to make a quick buck. He has a plain, blunt, and rude personality; if it wasn't that he was so good at killing and..."retrieving" objects for a price, no one would bother with him. Also, he smells like fish, which is usually off putting to others, and he refers to himself in the third person, which can become grating over time.

There is little the merrow fears, and it seems nigh-impossible to intimidate him, or dissuade from taking place in a fight. It is notable that he despises and hates spears, as well as those that use them, as the weapons are usually used to poach his kind. Between jobs, Grensch hunts a person he only knows as "the one armed fisher".

Appearance: Grensch the merrow has flat, ugly features; small, cold black eyes, a broad, rubber lipped mouth filled with dark stained, needle like teeth, wide webbed fins, pocked with old puncture wounds and peirced with looted gold rings, which flare up from the sides and top of his head when he becomes angry. He is broad shouldered and hulking, standing taller than most any common human, though covers this bulk with an old, nearly colorless cloak. The ragged peice of cloth is usually soaked and dark with water, which tends to hide the bloodstains which dot its surface. The mottled green merrow wears a single steel shoulder plate and a leather bandoleir, on which he hangs his knives, and a peice of oil treated leather around his waist, for decency's sake. Across his back, he usually slings a large leather bladder to be used for drinking and Shapecrafting water. The thing is patched many times over from where Grensch became impatient with it's cap and simply slashed it open.

Weapons: Grensch is a simple merrow, and this is reflected in his choice of weaponry. Most commonly, he employs a pair of heavy bladed, black iron knives, both fourteen inches long with grips wrapped in treated and dried elf skin, both with knuckle guards. The first, which usually finds itself in his left hand, is called Snag. This knife is mostly plain, with a long, curved blade, though its opposite edge hosts a large gut hook. A person stabbed in the stomach with this, may have more worries than simply stitching up their wounds. The second, which is usually found in his right hand, is called Gnash. Much like his friend, Gnash is a common looking knife, if a little larger than normal. What seperates it from the usual gutter trash knives of the air-breathers is the toothed, saw blade on it's back, specifically designed for cutting through bone. In the bulky merrow's hands, a few brutal strokes is all that is necessary to make a very large mess. In the bandoleir across his chest, Grensch carries four other iron knives, though there is nothing special about them.

The merrow also carries about a seven foot length of iron chain, which he uses as a crude whip. Some of the links have cruel barbs on them, designed to grab at flesh, and urge one grabbed by the chain to follow it's master's tugs, or risk rather painful wounds. It is commonly used against opponents who thinks it's funny to stand back and shoot arrows or spells.

Armour: Since nature has saw fit to give Grensch all the armor he needs, the merrow only wears a single steel shoulder guard, which holds his bandoleir across his chest.

Skills and Abilities:
Merrow Biology
The amphibious race of the merrow is a curious one; they seem to borrow features from from frogs, fish, squids, and even sharks, and are as varied in appearance as the human race. There are even some that are purported to be able to pass as only a slightly fishy version of the landwalkers; Grensch is not one of them. His enormous, heavily muscled body easily makes him stick out in a crowd; cloaked or not, though it does allow him a vice like grip that can crush bones with little effort, and deliver rattling, powerful blows. He is four times stronger than any human that engages in daily, intensive exercise, though his bulk makes him somewhat slow.

As the merrows are a cold blooded folk, Grensch prefers hot, humid environments. Cold, especially spells involving the elements, tend to make him sluggish and woozy; and heavy, dry heat tends to dehydrate him quicker than usual (such as that in a desert; Grensch is disgusted by Fallien). While he's able to freely walk around on land, Grensch much prefers the water, as he needs to drink or splash water across himself every few hours or chance becoming dangerously weak and light headed. If he is throwing himself into heavy physical exertion, the merrow will have to hydrate himself every hour, on the hour, or succumb to intense fatigue.

All merrow are covered in a wide of resilient, flexible scales, which vary from color to color with each one. The scales make it difficult to be cut unless a heavy blow (i.e. something such as an axe or longsword) is levied against it; Grensch's scales are about the equivalent of steel. His heavy musculature also makes for an excellent natural impact resistant armor; the merrow can take a vicious punch across the face from a man of average strength and simply laugh it off without a bruise. His natural teeth and claws can make for a good, improvised weapon, should he ever find himself divested of his knives.

Shapecraft: Water
Like most merrow, Grensch has a talent in shapecrafting magic, though his takes a more practical form than others. He is capable of controlling any pre-existing water; he cannot simply create his own, though he can use anything with a liquid base. Grensch may form up to one peice of large armor (usually a breastplate), which allows him a bit of resistance against fire based attacks, and interferes with other attacks thrown against it, as he increases it's density to a near syrup like viscosity. He may also use spare water to form small to medium sized weapons, from a six inch needle, to a saw bladed throwing disc the size of one's splayed hands. By focusing magical energies into them, these forms become the equivalent of steel, and act as such. He can control up to seven of these projectiles at once, and he commonly uses this skill to make up for his lack of ranged proficiencies. While submerged underwater, Grench's abilities in Shapecrafting are doubled.

The Business
Grensch is highly proficient in the application of his knives, and is mildly experienced in the art of throwing them (though he'd rather just use water). The merrow is even an above average fistfighter, though what he lacks in skill, he makes up for in brute force.

History:
Decades ago, the merrow were a respected and valued part of society. The fish-folk acted as irreplaceable river guides, excellent ship hands, and loyal guards. However, when the Raiaeran elves suddenly got a taste for their eggs, the merrow stopped being so valued. They also stopped being considered intelligent beings when it was shown world wide that their scales made for good light armor, and even their meat had a decidedly delicious tang to it. Their names were tacked up onto the hunting season list, and crews of men would patrol the rivers and swamps, killing merrow with chained spears, and raiding their nests for the costly eggs they laid.

Grensch and his brother Rakkus were the survivors of one such robbed nest. Their eggs fortunately rolled behind a nearby cropping of rocks and overlooked in the poacher's glee at such a find. Their mother and father's fates are unknown, and largely glossed over, as merrow children are left alone for the first fifteen years of their lives to grow and learn and make mistakes on their own. The brothers primarily stuck to the swamp they were born in during the first ten years of their lives. and soon enough learned of their people's plight when a boat of hunters slid into their home. Though they were able to repel their attackers, Rakkus lost an eye, and received a long, distinctive scar on his face.

The brothers soon after moved from the swamp, into the rivers that created veins through the Concordia forest, and took up robbing passerby and merchant caravans as a paltry punishment for the subjugation and hunting of their kind. They snatched up glimmering jewels and bulging sacks of gold coins, stole crates of expensive weapons and armor. Perhaps it was when they began to plunder needed medicine, food, and other necessary supplies, they were noticed in annoyance by the eyes that mattered.

During a routine act of river piracy, Rakkus and Grensch were ambushed by a small company of mercenaries led by a one armed man. Grensch was slashed viciously across the stomach with a gleaming mythril cutlass and knocked overboard, and left for dead as the current carried him away. Rakkus was not as fortunate; though he killed a few of his attackers, he was eventually driven to his knees by a number of blows from merrow-hunting spears, and decapitated.

Grensch was recovered by an aging merrow, who patched his wounds up. For months, the older merrow nursed the younger back to health, and died soon after Grensch was able to once again walk. Swearing bloody vengeance on the man who had gravely wounded him, he entered the mercenary business himself and began to walk about on land in a hooded cloak to avoid daily attempts to harvest his meat and skin. It was around this time that he discovered the dried severed head of his brother in the Bazaar, which inspired him to take a more savage attitude towards man and elfkind; which he began to eat, just as they did to his own people.

Looks good, since you don't really have too much I'm not going to make you reduce the number of things you can create at once with the water. I think it's fine.

Good luck and have fun with the tournament!

Approved.
