Trivia

Name: Snatch
Age: 73
Gender: Female
Race: Satuul demon
Appearance:
Following the lines of her body exactly, Snatch is roughly four feet from head to toe, but her skeletal structure is such that she appears much shorter and finds it difficult to stand straight. She has a distinctly human-like frame, though is very much a separate species. Built for the hunt, she walks on the balls of her feet, the talons sharply evident in her complete lack of shoes. The rest of her body is easy to see as well since she has never had any need for clothing and will never see modesty as a valuable trait. Her thick skin is enough for her. Dark in pigmentation, it is useful camouflage as well as resistant to heat, cold and the weapons of her prey or enemies. Still young for her kind, Snatch lacks all the feminine curves that would make her nudity scandalous among humans. However, she carries the same graceful strength of a mature predator; no bulging muscles, just a steady assurance of pure power, great agility and near perfect balance. Whether walking on both feet or on all fours, her knuckles taking the weight of her upper body, Snatch is completely comfortable in her movement.

Her hands are long fingered and look bizarre with both an extra joint on each finger as well as very effective, black claws. Calluses cover her hands and feet, but her palms and the pads of her fingers are much more sensitive than anywhere else because the skin there is only about a quarter of its general thickness.

A primitive face gives her a haunting, almost eerie beauty. Wide, definite cheekbones flare proudly beneath her large, slanted eyes, straight eyebrows and broad forehead. Those eyes are a pale gold, the iris spanning the entirety of the visible portion of the eyeball excepting the round pupil that expands drastically in the dark and seems to glow. Her nose is small and flat with flared nostrils and her jaw is shaped very much like a shortened muzzle, complete with frightening, inch-and-a-half long fangs and teeth built for the sole purpose of ripping through raw meat. Needless to say, her snarls are fearsome at the least. Her long, pointed ears are placed in the same position as a human’s, but have much the same mobility as an animal’s.

Wild, thick black hair falls down the length of her back and is usually in surprisingly good order considering the daily trials it must face. Braided into elaborate patterns and designs by her brother, it is also used in much the same way as a modern suitcase. The lighter tools, such as scrapers or small knifes have been woven delicately into her hair. They are of little use there, unless at close quarters, but it is better than carrying all the things in her hands. Other objects can also be found displayed in this matter. Feathers more often than not, but sometimes scraps of fabric as well, or leather. Some of these are brightly dyed with natural pigments, some aren’t. Bird and small mammal skulls, along with finger bones and carved bits of antler clatter if she moves too quickly, or if her brother has been careless in his ministrations.

Her killing blade, a good eight inches long and too heavy to be tied into her hair, is sheathed within the skin of her outer thigh, its antler handle protruding rudely from the skin. The wound is an old one and long since healed into its trained shape. Other scars mar her smooth flesh, some in patterns that she raised herself or asked a tribesmate to raise in a show of great friendship, but most were caused by accidents in the hunt. They show up pale in contrast with the rest of her skin.

Personality:
As her name suggests, Snatch is quick-eyed and nimble-fingered with a greedy curiosity that only lends itself to patience when it suits her. What belongs to someone else is only theirs while they can hold onto it. What belongs to her belongs to her only as long as she can keep it in her grasp, but she has gotten into the habit of hiding things she no longer needs so no one else can find them. The value of an item is only ever judged by its usefulness or how it might look tied in her hair. Anything that she can’t find a use for, or doesn’t want can be tossed over her shoulder or over a cliff without a second thought. Regret is not a readily available emotion.

Tact, likewise, is not a word she has any understanding of and more often than not she will speak her mind without thought of the consequences. This is mostly a side-effect of once being able to think out loud with only her brother to ridicule her thoughts. Spoken in her somewhat rough interpretation of the human language, these musings often give the sense that she is addle-brained or stupid. Addle-brained perhaps, as her mind is usually racing with thoughts that aren’t always intrinsically linked, but never stupid. Intelligence is all relative. Reality is just simpler for her, simpler and far more fascinating. A definite bonus of this is that she is never bored.

Nearly impossible to anger or frustrate, Snatch will harry a problem until it is sorted or she grows bored and she is happiest when she has something to do. Even sitting still, her hands usually have to be busy doing something. Preparing a meal, making tools, sewing, braiding her brother’s hair, etc. These are all activities she is perfectly prepared to go about if she would otherwise be unoccupied. Idleness is frowned upon among the Satuula, but Snatch has taken that to a bit of an extreme. Perfect stillness of both her mind and body, can only be achieved when a great level of concentration is required. During a hunt or for the ritual strengthening of the spirit that must take place as the sun sets to be strong enough to wander through Death’s time, when all her focus is directed at one thing that is very important to her is when she is actually the most unpredictable. Or rather, just afterwards or if she is interrupted she can become very violent and brutal. Her body releasing all the pent up energy in the only way it knows how.

Despite being independent, Snatch is still quite young for a demon and playing is an essential part of her day. This means that pouncing unexpectedly on friends is really just a way to train for the hunt. Due to their tough skins, Satuula learn to play rough from the get go and blows are delivered at nearly full force and can sometimes result in blood being shed, though no serious damage is ever doled out or received. There is rarely any anger involved in these matters either.

History:
For the first ten years of her life, she and her twin brother never left their mother’s side. They grew quickly beneath her softly guiding hands, learning the ways of their people and the dangers and wonders of the world around them. She taught them everything she knew how to teach, it didn’t matter if they were too young, their spirits would remember when they needed to. That was the same reaction they got when they were finally allowed to roam freely in their tribe’s territory. Adults always took the time to answer questions in detail because, as one old male explained after a chuckling attempt to describe the uses of an aphrodisiac, the spirit knows what it will need for life.

By the time they were forty, they were considered capable of caring for themselves should they ever become lost and were allowed to wander beyond their own tribe’s land. Much too young to be considered a threat, the other adults welcomed them with little suspicion and were happy to answer any questions the others couldn’t. Satuul young are few and far between despite the fact that they are almost always twins, so the entire population, with a few exceptions, works together to raise them.

Roughly ten years ago, they simply wandered too far and in the morning they couldn’t be bothered to wander back.

Weapons:
Already armed with sharp claws on both her hands and feet, as well as sharp teeth within a jaw easily powerful enough to crush bone (the same strength as a hyena), Snatch also knows how to use a variety of primitive weapons. Her killing knife being the most formidable of them all. It is a little over eight inches long and made of a rare stone from her world called tila. With roughly the same hardness as obsidian, as well as the same general make-up, it is relatively easy to make a sharp knife out of. After it has been made, the Satuul who will own it polishes the knife with their blood, this reacts with the stone to make it eternally sharp and with the slightly more durable than steel (about a 8.5-9 on the Mohs scale). This blade is generally used only when absolutely necessary because it is more for ceremony than for use, though it is the real thing.

Armour:
Since she doesn’t wear any clothing, let alone armour, Snatch’s only protection is her skin, which is amazing in and of itself. Just over an inch thick and incredibly dense it would take a powerful blow to penetrate all the way through. The minimal amount of nerve endings within the skin means that it is very insensitive to pain, or really any form of touch. Her skin is around a 5 on the Mohs scale.

Skills & Abilities:
Heightened senses: Hearing: 3x that of a human, Smell: 5x that of a human, Sight: the same as a human’s during the day, but similar to a cat’s at night

Comparatively to humans, who are slow, clumsy and relatively idiotic when it comes to hunting, Snatch is very good. She has to be. Being able to catch her prey spells the difference between surviving and, well, not surviving. A natural predator, she can track, stalk, ambush and kill among the best of them, provided she isn’t distracted, which rarely happens. Amazingly quiet, Snatch is also much faster than a human with better reflexes (3x speed) and balance so she can get away with relative ease when everything fails. She’s young, it happens.

Understands most animals and can communicate back through use of body language, whole sentences do not exist in this language.

Large lungs mean that she could hold her breath for up to fifteen minutes, though this amount decreases at an alarming rate if she is forced to do much more than swim slowly.

“Satuul blood has several strange properties, the first being that it hardens some materials it comes against when exposed to the air. Such as Satuul skin or tila. So Satuula often use it to create hard patterns, which become a rich, fairly dark red, on themselves; sometimes for extra protection, sometimes just for the fun of it. It also changes its thickness very fast, and so, on untended wounds, will begin to coagulate within seconds and can have clotted all but the most major cuts and scrapes in a few minutes, which ensures that Satuula cannot be easily bled to death. It isn’t even a sure thing that cutting the jugular or other large arteries will kill them, although if they do survive, they would most certainly be extremely weak and not up to much.” This was taken from Nemai’s profile for Grunt, because she said it so much better than I ever could.

If things are getting decidedly desperate in a fight or a hunt, female Satuula can make a certain sound, much like a cougar’s scream, that has the bizarre and useful tendency to make Satuul males go berserk when they hear it. Males have described it as making them believe that their loved ones are being cruelly murdered and they can do nothing about it. Naturally this makes them mad... though insane would be a better description of it. Among human males, the sound appears to have a terrible effect, sometimes reducing a weaker male to tears of fright. No Satuul has ever bothered to question a human as to why this is.

Side Note on world...
The first Satuula were created when the dormant magic of their world was awakened by the uncaring use that the humans were putting it to. It ran rampant through the kingdoms of the old world, creating disaster wherever it flowed freely until there was nothing left of what the humans had built for themselves but ruins. During the course of its brief chaotic conscious, it sent many of the familiars, mostly demonic in nature, back from where the humans had summoned them, but for some reason the Saltu familiars were left in this world, free of their bonds and altered, though only slightly into Satuula. First, the magic ran through their veins, changing the blood within, then it brought them together so they could help each other survive and lastly, it offered them a greater intelligence than they already had, so that they could discover for themselves from curiosity what they might once have required to be taught to them.

Of course, already being predators and with the human population greatly diminished and weakened, Satuula quickly became the more dominant species between the two. No other races have yet to rise and challenge them. There is however, no set truce between humans and Satuula in Estem and, though it far, far more often for the humans to be preyed upon by Satuula, it is not unheard of for a group of humans to gang up on a lone Satuul. It has mostly remained in this awkward balance since the magic went dormant again, some thousands of years ago and only the predation of the humans by the Satuul keeps them from rebuilding the empires they once had. Although they breed and adapt far too quickly for the ever-growing populations of Satuul to wipe out.
