Name:Lt. Thomas Balvice
Height:6'3"
Weight:
Age:26
Character Type Critical Character

Description: The former lieutenant of Monterey, CA stands at roughly six foot, three inches, and very well built for his occupation. His hair is fairly short, a two dust-brown arcs moving in opposite directions that come to a stop just above the pit of his ears. Thomas' eye-color resembles something along the lines of a dying red maple leaf, and sand-paper, though slightly saturated which gives them an almost chaotic feel, fitting to his life-story.

Thomas' clothing consists of red neck-tie around the collar of a white dress-shirt that perfectly matches his muscular physique, though mostly concealed, due to his dust-brown trench- coat that he wears over it. On his legs are dust-brown slacks go past his ankles but are cuffed up as to avoid tripping over them, revealing a very professional looking set of dress-shoes that he is surprisingly, very fast and agile in.

History is very long, but it's not manadatory to read.

History: When Thomas was but a twelve-year old, a burglar broke into his home and shot both parents right between the eyes, killing them instantly. Thomas, being just a kid was far too frightened to actually do anything about it. By the time, the police arrived, the burglar had been long gone, and Thomas was sent to live with his grandmother who died within the same year of moving in with her due to a gunshot wound inflicted by the very same burglar who killed his parents. He moved in with her on November 15th.

Thomas ended up going from foster-home to foster-home until he was 16 years old and managed to rent out an apartment for the remainder of his youth. During those years, he worked his ass off in High School, studying criminology with a friend who was named Johnson. That's right, his name was Johnson. Who'd've thunk it? Johnson wasn't all that passionate about it, though he did have his fair share of irritation for the rising number of crimes in Monterey. Thomas on the other hand was borderline obsessive with his studies; he despised criminals due to his history, and was hell-bent on locking each and every last one of them away for life, and it was starting to endanger his health.

Fortunately, during his college days, he was blessed with a sweet little angel by the name of Jessica Lynn. Her goal was to work as a rehabilitator for criminals, which greatly opposed Thomas' own loathing for them. Whereas he thought there should be no forgiveness, she was all for giving them a second chance. It irked him greatly, but he was somehow able to see that it was just her kind-hearted nature that made her do it, so he chose to love her anyway.

Things were looking great for Thomas. He quickly worked his way up at the precinct, and received several awards for outstanding detective work, which brought him up to the level of lieutenant. The perfect position for Thomas; he enjoyed having level of authority, while still holding that sense of "being just another cop" that was able to stay physically active, rather than finding himself growing obese from too many doughnuts. A few months after his promotion to lieutenant, he decided to buy a German Shepard that he named Benny. He figured it'd be useful to have someone or something to work with, raising the dog completely on his own, as well as training it to sniff out a variety of scents. The bastard was a goofball, but he turned out to be an amazing success, considering he had an obsessed lieutenant training him.

Life was going great, he had a beautiful girlfriend who he planned on moving in with in the next few months, and he was more than over-achieving in his goals.

And that's when shit hit the fan.

Thomas had been working his ass off as usual, and his captain decided that it was time for him to take a vacation. He was by no means tired, but his captain didn't want to see him in a weak state from overworking himself. Thomas refused, and after about a week of telling him, there was no way to convince him to go rest, he simply assigned Thomas to a bio-marine research lab located at the lower end of the city, near the downtown district. There he met up with Johnson who had been assigned full-time guard duty, and he absolutely despised it. Johnson couldn't stand those scientists – nothing but nerds. No after thoughts or reasoning behind his great disdain for them – he simply didn't like them.

For him, it was a relieving feeling to be hanging out with his old High School buddy. The only other person here, who didn't think lowly of besides Thomas was one of the scientists who went by the name of Jack Theomen. Over the weeks, Thomas and Jack became acquaintances, but, nothing more than that. The only time they were together at all was when the three of them went out to Tracy's Bar and Grill.

A few more weeks past and Thomas became a regular there, though he was far more well-liked by the scientists, considering they had heard Johnson cracking snide remarks about them behind their back. Thomas simply defended them, partially because the presentations they made weren't half-bad, not to mention he got to learn some surprising facts about sea-life, like the one about mile-long whales launching assaults on his home-town, and completely annihilating everyone there.

Okay, now this is where the shit comes flying back in your face after hitting the fan.

Prelude to Catastrophe

During Thomas and Johnson's lunch-break, they had found themselves walking down the beach. The ocean was ridiculously foggy, and the clouds resembled steam coming out of a chimney, and the ocean gave off a silvery hue, giving it the appearance of liquid-metal. It was like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, which frankly, put him on the paranoid side of things. So, here he is staring out at the ocean, enjoying his twix-bar when a boat and two men in scuba-gear bright-light him right in the face, erasing his paranoia for the time being, and forcing him into a recovery state. The light that had entered his eyes blinded him momentarily, causing him to stumble forwards into the water, before getting yanked into the boat by one of the divers. Fortunately, he was a nice guy and didn't mind all that much. As for Thomas, he scratched himself on one of the rock-samples they had collected, but other than that he was fine, though explaining to Jessica why he smelt like sea-weed would be another story altogether.

A few days had passed, and Thomas found himself following a scientist into one of the labs, who was conducting an experiment no those rock-samples, testing out their rate of conductivity. The door had already locked automatically to prevent, an overload of electricity from spreading throughout the rest of the building and short-circuiting the place, and so he had no other choice but to simply watch. Not that he minded, very much of course. It turned out, that these rocks weren't just highly conductive, but they were containing the electricity and holding it inside what appeared to be some sort of crystalline, structure. Thomas decided to come back the next day, only to find out that the samples which had been separated were now binding together, and were adding any amount of mineral-mass they could to their overall mass. Fortunately, the entire slot that the electricity ran through was insulated with the exception of the rocks, which meant that they had nothing else to bind to, though the 'outsiders' had already found something.

During one of Thomas' lunch-breaks he had somehow managed to slip and fall down a flight of stairs, shattering his entire right shin along the way. Thomas was screaming in pain as he was taken to the hospital, and he was told that he'd probably be stuck with a desk-job, and that really pissed him off. Only a day later, the doctors came in to look at his leg and the entire thing had miraculously healed itself – no fracture mark – no signs of stress – absolutely nothing was wrong with it. The thing was actually in even better condition than it was before he had broken it, so, in a sense, shattering his shin was the best thing that had ever happened to him, or so he thought.

In the next couple days, Thomas couldn't help but find himself thinking about he and Jessica's conflicting views about whether or not criminals deserved forgiveness or not. At first, the thoughts were mild but as time went on, he began to develop a subconscious hatred for Jessica that he hadn't even realized yet. At the same time, whenever Thomas' body felt uncomfortable for any reason, it would sporadically change temperature, either rising or falling in specific areas of his body, though generally occuring in his bones, whereas his muscles simply felt the 'radiating' effects of this change in temperature.

As Thomas' aware of the thoughts within his subconscious, Thomas decided it was best to visit a therapist. He chose not to tell Jessica for fear of worrying her, and it after a few cat-scans ran on his brain, doctors were able to determine that something had been tampering with his nervous system, though what it was exactly was unknown. The only plausible theory they were able to come up with was that, the electrical impulses running through his brain were being scattered and redirected to specific spots of his brain, triggering these out of character thoughts that Thomas had been experiencing.

Thomas had managed to suppress his thoughts for the time being, though all that effort was about to go to waste when he decided to observe one of Jessica's rehabilitation sessions. Apparently, the convict just so happened to be the very same convict that had shot his mother, father, and grandmother in cold blood when he was just a child. As soon as he found this out, he exploded in a fit of rage, drew out his handgun and barely missed the guy's head, taking off a few hairs instead, and that was only because he was quivering from raw anger. Jessica had to calm him down, and Thomas was forced to remain outside while Jessica continued her meeting with the man. In the end, the guy had been set free on probation, which mind you, infuriated Thomas beyond all rationality. He felt...betrayed, angry, hurt, and above all damn near wanted to KILL Jessica Lynn.

March 2nd 2008 - Day of Catastrophe

For the next few weeks after the outburst Thomas and Jessica began to grow extremely distant, and Thomas was in no mood to go to work, but he chose to anyway. Johnson usually calmed him down, and the experiments conducted by the scientists at the research facility were interesting enough to keep his mind off Jessica.

It was early in the morning and already, Thomas was sitting behind Jack who was viewing a sonar screen. The entire building shook, knocking Thomas off his feet and Jack out of his chair, and the sonar had detected a MASSIVE blip that took up nearly the entire screen. They were in California, so it didn't come as too much of a surprise, though when the next tremor readings showed up the seismograph, and completely annihilated the richtor scale, that's when it became evident that it was time to flee the scene.

Thomas dashed towards his car as fast as he could, with Benny barking hysterically in the back seat. The only thing on his mind was making sure Jessica was alright, and despite his recent thoughts about her, his love for her overruled that feeling of betrayal. Almost an hour went by, before he managed to weave through the debris, taking several detours to her work-place only to find out that the building had been completely annihilated, by the quake. It was time for him to travel on foot, but, the moment he stepped out, that's when he saw IT attack that THING.

Apparently, there had been a mile-long whale like creature living beneath the ocean floor for some time, and today was the day that it chose to begin its assault. Coincidentally, there had been a beast just as aggressive that wanted to kill it, and Thomas was stuck right in the middle of it all.

The whale-like monstrosity had released hundreds of tiny drones that resembled crustaceans were released by the beast, and those were a bitch for Thomas to deal with. He drew out his SOCOM and unleashed Hell on the bastards, and managed to kill off a few, but there were still hundreds more, and those hundreds were quickly beginning to reach the thousands. And that was when, the strange occurences going on within his body all began to resurface, revealing the beast that had been inhabiting his body ever since he scratched himself on that rock-sample that those scuba-divers working for the facility had brought in.

Thomas screamed in pain as the skin covering his right elbow ripped open, revealing an extension of the joint. It was a blade made from his own bones, hardened to the point of being comparable to diamond, and it was covered in blood. Thomas was in far too much shock to realize what was going on, before suddenly his body began to move completely on it's own, literally. It was like an invisible hand controlling his movements, puppeteering the lieutenant which allowed him to fight his way through the monsters.

After the first wave had passed, the thing living inside Thomas' body had given back his control. And at that very moment, he spotted Jessica getting chased by at least ten drones, one of which was suspiciously covered in remnants of what appeared to be a police uniform. Thomas loaded another clip into his gun and immediately began shooting at the joints of each drone, not killing it but immobilizing it at least.

Thomas had no idea where the hell he was going, but he tried his best to guide Jessica through the chaos which unfortunately lead back to the ocean where the two gargantuans were still battling it out. All Thomas was able to see were buildings getting sucked into the mouth of the beast, and a faint glance of someone who appeared to be Jack, but it was the image was too blurred for him to get a good enough. Somehow, he wasn't getting sucked in, though that became painfully apparently when he released that the same thing that happened to his arm had happened to both his feet, and those were being used to keep him stuck to earth.

The same thing couldn't be said for Jessica however, who he was desperately trying to hold onto, before Thomas let out a horrifying scream, followed by all the bones of his fingers tearing out through the skin and impaling the woman straight through the neck. He hadn't a clue what happened, nor why, but, all he could gather was that he didn't do that, it couldn't have been him. It wasn't as if he took aim and commanded his bones to turn into spears, he couldn't have. Could he? Regardless, his life was ruined, he pretty much figured that his friends were more than likely dead, and the last he saw of his now dead love, was her bleeding corpse getting sucked into the mouth of the beast.

For now, Thomas simply wanders the world, in search of something meaningful, while trying to figure out just what exactly had gone on that day, and what exactly was living within his body.

Personality: Thomas' personality revolves somewhat around paranoia, as well as a tendency to be calm and collected about things, and then extremely serious the next, which stems from the constant change in events he's had going on throughout his entire life. His history as a lieutenant though makes him very prone to helping out those in need, as well as to soothe his guilty conscience about killing his girlfriend. He can have random moments of paranoia, as well as a tendency to complain about a lot of things either in his mind, or outloud.

Abilities:

Mineral Meddling: The beast living inside his body holds the ability to both absorb an infinite amount of rock-based and metal-based minerals, as well as despose of them or simply alter their construct. This is how the thing was able to get inside Thomas' skeleton. It simply became apart of the minerals of his skeleton, granting him full control over Thomas' skeleton, allowing him to heal any injuries that Thomas may sustain. At the same time, it could also puppeteer Thomas, and if he tries to resist it could snap a bone at any time or reduce it to dust.

Another effect to this ability is weaponizing his bones, increasing Thomas' bone mass and then reshaping the excess growth into that of a blade or spike, which often times ends up forcing its way through Thomas' skin which is very painful.

Temperature Control: The creature also holds the ability to alter it's body temperature at any specific point in it's body, (referring only to the skeleton). If Thomas resists the creature's control, then Thomas' bones would heat up and scorch his flesh, or they would simply freeze, which was just as bad. The benefits of this ability, however, come in handy usually after Thomas' body has been weaponized, simply because the creature could choose to heat the blade-section protruding from his arm that wasn't touching his skin, or flesh, allowing him to use it as a weapon without fear of hurting himself.

Infection: The creature contains arcane runes all throughout its entire body, which it uses to take in various amounts of energy, ranging from electrical, ki, chi, reiatsu, or magical types. They often manifest along Thomas' left arm, where they will utilize the mineral meddling ability to bind to the bullets in Thomas' gun. This allows him to fire off energized bullets that contained high-levels of the energy previously absorbed by the runes, or he can simply leak the energy out of him, which can be used for various other things.

Runic Eye: The runes possess the same exact ability that is listed in mineral meddling, which means they could also break apart into something microscopic. In this microscopic form, the runes will sit in front of Thomas' optical receptors and interpret different types of energies, magical auras, spiritual auras, etc before entering Thomas' brain. This grants allows Thomas to partially understand just what exactly he's viewing at the time.

Summoning the beast: The creature inside Thomas' body is a living entity and therefore must reproduce in some way or another. The creature does in fact, possess a conscious which it is able to split apart like an amobea and then regrow the rest of itself over time. In this case, the beast literally removes part of itself from Thomas' skeleton and then reforms itself by utilizing the mineral meddling ability. The form it takes on is that of a golem that goes by the name of Agron, possessing all of the abilities listed above, and it will protect Thomas from anything that it could not otherwise handle by manipulating Thomas' skeleton, though at the expense of Thomas losing said abilities until Agron returns to his body, which to be honest is a relief in its own rite.

Equipment: One .45 caliber SOCOM handgun, equipped with a state of the art range-finder, laser-sighting, and an internally mounted flashlight.

Three handcuffs.

One can of mace.

One Extendable riot-baton.

Fun character.

I have just a few things I'd like you to clarify and/or change for me. First is the "healing" portion of mineral meddling, while the chance of being controlled is a decent drawback of the ability, being able to heal any injuries is a bit much. Please reduce this. Second when you "summon the beast" regardless of the time it takes, its still pretty much a clone of your character. Please trim down his abilities considerably (or remove the ability to reproduce). I'd be fine with Tom losing "the beast" abilities while Agron is free. Third, can we drop the taser (ideally you lightning charge a bullet).

Let me know after you make the appropriate edits.

Taser has been removed, and I made an extension of "Summoning the beast" in reference to Thomas losing his abilities while Agron is out.

To clarify healing, that's only a natural ability that comes with mineral meddling. I don't have any intentions on using it throughout the tournament, since I heard that all characters are healed at the end of reach round.

Taser has been removed as well.

That's fine, especially if you're just looking to justify mid-round healing.

Good idea! You're approved.
