I'm writing a character profile right now, and he's going to be a kind of magician. I read some of the history and some of the other profiles, and I've heard of this thing called the Eternal Tap, and that it was broken or shattered or something in the War of the Tap.

What's this all about? Is the Tap some stationary object, or is it some kind of force that's found everywhere? Is it broken and is magic drawn from other source now?

I was just going to make some random source of magic for my character, but I wanted to make it a bit more versatile and more in line with Althanian lore. Thanks in advance for any info.

The Tap is basically the Althanian equivalent of the Force on steroids. It's the source of all magic. It was also severely damaged/outright sealed in an ancient war between gods (alternatively, between god-like mortals, gods and mortals, demigods, or just Badass Mothershutchomouth). What most spellcasters do today is draw energy from what's left of it, whether directly or through various filters (like leylines, background energy in the air, etc). Those who don't draw off the Tap tend to draw off of either divine power or their own spirits (or a reasonable substitute, depending on which side of the Good/Evil line they fall on).

Ok, that's kind of what I had written into the profile, but some editting will help. Thanks
