Prodigy Child
01-13-09, 02:52 PM
Name: Heller Rythadine
Age: 17
Race: Human (Salvarian)
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Brown
Height: 5’9”
Weight: 145 lbs.
Occupation: Fisher/Translator
Personality: Growing up in a Salvarian Fishery, the rowdy antics of the older men he lived with caused Heller to become a quiet, pensive individual. He is unafraid to express himself, but has never understood the purpose of the aimless banter which his various father/uncle figures habitually engaged in. Learning from those he worked with and the books he read, he developed a strong code of personal ethics and respect. He is often in a blissful state of mind that leads uneducated observers to believe he is something of an airhead. This could not be more mistaken, as Heller is in fact a young genius in the making. Rather than angering him, other people’s incorrect opinions of him amuse the teen. Indeed, he is rarely angry and always willing to help those in need. He believes he can learn in every moment of every day, and strives to do so.
Appearance: Although he is unmistakably Caucasian, living in the harsh windy climate of Salvar and spending hours each day out on the ice has given Heller tough, tanned skin. His hair is black, medium length and wavy, usually matted and unwashed, often falling just far enough down his face to get in his eyes. His features are endearing, highlighted by chocolate brown eyes that constantly twinkle with wonder and appreciation. His body is slim but sturdy, with cordlike muscles that denote solid core strength. Habitually dressing in layers of linen, denim, and arctic wolf pelts while ice fishing, he moves with an easy grace when not weighted down by pounds of clothing or not walking on slippery surfaces.
History: Although he is unaware of his lineage, Heller was destined for greatness since birth. His mother, Kristina Rythadine, was a respected Lieutenant in the Salvarian Military. His grandfather, the hermit Tinker Rythadine, is noted amongst the most powerful and innovative alchemists on Althanas. His father was a revered and feared Martial Artist who lived in a mountain stronghold surrounded by his disciples. The details of his conception and birth are a mystery, and Heller has never met either of his parents.
One way or another, the prodigy child was brought to an orphanage in a nameless cluster just outside of but technically a part of Knife’s Edge. The town’s main industry was ice fishing, and Heller grew up learning the ways of the line, the net, and the spear from men in the fishing industry. While this made up most of his daily activities, it did not take long for his caretakers to recognize his abnormal memory and literary abilities. He learned languages from wise men and books, and developed into the most capable translator in the cluster. Because of this he received the opportunity to travel across Salvar and even to foreign countries, aiding in business transactions wherever communication was a problem.
At present, Heller lives in the Fishery Dormitories amongst many older men who he sees as partial role models and teachers. He enjoys his simple life, but has an undeniable nagging feeling of destiny, and so he learns as much as possible and waits for fate to bring him adventures.
Skills:
Savant Abilities:
Eidetic memory- Heller remembers most of what he reads and perceives. He is fluent in most Salvic dialects, as well as Elvish, Drow, Tradespeak and Common. He can also identify most Salvic figures of importance as well as the nations flora and fauna. He is equally a wealth of useful and useless facts.
Active learner- Heller is constantly absorbing information and learning from the actions of others. This makes him a quick study in most areas and an excellent pupil.
Lack of Empathy- While Heller excels in the area of knowledge he is rather bad at understanding other people. He frequently does not recognize anger or hostility in others, and at times seems oblivious to their emotions.
Fishing: Heller is an average Salvic Fisherman, and understands the use of nets, lines and spears, as well as how to set up and maintain a proper ice fishing environment.
Wilderness survival: Due to his expansive memory and his teachings near Knife’s Edge, Heller could be considered an above average survivalist in arctic climates, and an average survivalist anywhere else. He can track animals, set basic traps, construct shelters, and find paths as well as the next country boy.
Hand to hand combat: Growing up amongst other boys and men, Heller could hardly avoid learning the basics of wrestling and street fighting. He lacks killer instinct and as such is a below average fighter, but he is quick and evasive, normally focussing on disabling his opponent and running away.
Weapon group proficiency, polearms: Heller has trained with a wide variety of staff-type weapons, but favours the trident over others for its increased defensive capabilities. He is considered average with the trident and below average with others, versed in using them as melee weapons or projectiles.
Precision striking- working hours each day spearing fish through a hole in the ice, Heller could be considered above average when it comes to hitting what he aims for with a straight thrust.
Exotic weapon proficiency, weighted net: Being a fisherman, Heller knows how to cast a net. He often carries a weighted fishing net with him so that, if attacked, he can ensnare the aggressor and escape. Considered below average.
Equipment:
Various articles of clothing made from linen, denim, and pelts of arctic wolves
Oak and Bronze trident, slightly taller than he
(2) lightweight oak javelins with iron tips at both ends
A net made from the tendons of arctic creatures weighted at the ends by carved stone
Various fishing equipment (lines, hooks, sinkers, bait)
Bronze medallion with his family name, “Rythadine” engraved on the surface, worn on a leather cord around his neck.
Iron folding knife which locks into a 4” straight blade.
Heller also habitually carries books or other reading materials with him, which he memorizes then trades for new ones.
