Personality: A common peasant, Atra wanders about, occasionally pickpocketing and thieving. She generally likes to be alone, but crowds present great opportunities. Atra is wary of everyone; her trust is hard to gain. She doesn't lose her temper very often, but when she does, most people would rather be tied to a tree in the middle of a hurricane.
Appearance: Atra has dark hair and skin. Her hair is very thick and long and is usually up in large pigtails. Her clothes are ratty and worn out; she wears a simple burgundy/brown/tan corset-style top with laces on the front and only one sleeve, tied at the elbow and wrist. On the other arm she wears a glove up to her elbow. Her skirt is almost knee-length and it parts at the front (she wears knee-length tight shorts underneath). Finally, she has above-knee boots that lace up in front. She carries a steel knife in the left one.
History: Atra started out a common peasant girl, escaped from the orphanage with no idea who her parents were. She wandered the streets for a while, but then strange things started to happen to her. After a dramatic experience which we need not go into, Atra emerged as a fully-fledged mage of the Dark Arts. She could control darkness (as mentioned in the next paragraph).
Skills: Atra can control and bend darkness, meaning that she can manipulate shadows of objects and make small areas plunge into darkness. She can instantly extinguish any non-magical or magical light (however, magical light is much harder to extinguish), and she is working on being able to control minds. Most mages of the Dark Arts can control minds, but Atra is inexperienced. People can push her out of their minds as long as they know what she is trying to do. Also, Atra can make small black holes appear in the palm of her hand in order to defend herself, but she isn't very good at it.
Equipment: Atra carries a steel knife around and a pendant with a dragon curling around a black stone.
Familiars: Atra has a small, independent familiar commonly known as a Batreng. Batrengs are the size of a small monkey with an ape-like face. They have leathery wings that flap about when they walk, yet when they take to the air, they are agile flyers. Atra's Batreng is called Helix and he flies ahead on long journeys to scout for danger. Atra never uses him in battle because he is scared of fighting. Otherwise he is quite independent; when he is with her he likes to fly around her head (to the great annoyance of Atra) or perch on her shoulder. Helix has demonstrated odd little bursts of abnormality, but has not shown any true powers yet.
