V'ryn
01-28-09, 05:12 AM
Name: V'ryn A'lemor
Age: 123 (appears 30 to humans)
Race: Arlyian
Gender: Male
Hair Color: Silver
Eye Color: Deep Green
Height: 175cm
Weight: 75kg
Occupation: Librarian and Lore Keeper

*Personality: V'ryn is a closed person. He doesn't give much away to those he doesn't trust but with a being he trusts then he is open and giving of himself, helping in anyway he can. V'ryn wishes that there was more to life than just keeping the legends of his people.

Appearance: The silver hair that falls to just below his shoulders when loose is usually tied in a rough ponytail to keep it out of the way. Off set with his deep green eyes that appear to contain immeasurable knowledge. A slim build belays the agile strength that springs to life when needed to defend himself with his ever present quarter staff.

History: The son of an elven war leader M'ar Erorelm and the chief librarian S'ahas Nishdyn V'ryn A'lemor disappointed his father at an early age when he showed no aptitude with a blade but one day his father found him twirling an oak staff around himself at lightning speeds and striking the practice dummy with pin point accuracy he saw in him the imagine of his father, the old lore keeper an expert with a staff and throwing knives, but also knowledgeable in magic and ancient lore. So he had him transferred from the barracks to the mage academy where he spent half the day learning mage craft and then spent the other half under his mothers watch at the great library where he studied everything from their legends of creation to the use of herbs in healing and everything in between. By night his father trained him in the use of staff and knife as he remembered his father using them and soon V'ryn gained both speed and knowledge and soon became restless. His father took him to the great tree in the middle of their home to carve his staff. With a single knife he climbed to the top of the tree, nearly falling to his death many times but once he reached the top of this great oak he took his knife and cut a staff five foot tall and with a flame the size of his fingernail etched the rune for leaving and beginning into the very top of his staff, the first of many that where to come as he traveled and gained in both power and knowledge. He left his home that day, to return many years later when he had learnt and lost much. His father on the day he returned at the age of 80, a coming of age among his people his father presented to him a set of 4 plain, unadorned steel throwing knives. "These belonged to your grandfather, never did he miss, may you never either." With the embrace of a warrior he turned and found his mother who presented him with the robe he wears to this day "May you learn from this" she said, runes where stitched into it, some he could read others he couldn't - only time would allow him to fully understand this gift. He has wandered and learned ever since and to this day still thirsts for knowledge.

Skills: Magic - Basic control of the four main elements
1. Fire - He has the ability to control fire up to the size of his fist and project this in any direction for 10m. At greater sizes it is harder for him to control. So a small flame on the tip of his finger for engraving runes on his staff is easily done but projecting a fireball at an opponent requires more effort and takes longer to call upon
2. Water - He can manipulate an amount of water equal to that would fit into a standard jug. He can shape it into almost any shape he wishes, also he can condense the water out of the air in great need. Though this can only be done once a day.
3.Wind - V'ryn can summon an amount of air equal to that of a small breeze, this wind if it catches a conversation on the way to him will allow him to hear it, though if the wind is coming from a long distance it takes more time and expends a greater amount of energy
4. Earth - He can control earth and earth substances such as rock, but only to the size of his head. He can levitate this earth and move it in a radius of 10m. He can once a day if necessary use the earth to create a temporary bridge to cross a gap of no more that 5m.

Marksmanship - V'ryn has trained in the art of dagger throwing such as his grandfather was proficient in. This allows him to throw his weapon up to 20m with accuracy. Every 5m beyond that reduces the accuracy of the throw by 10%.

Staffmanship (is that even a word?) - With his fathers training his ability with his quarter-staff allows him to defend himself with a level of proficiency against most opponents. Against opponents using ranged weapons it is obviously harder to mount a successful defence.

Healing - He has a basic understanding of common herbs that allows him to heal basic ailments such as a mild infection or a fever and enough experience to set a basic break or dislocation.

Lore - After studying with his mother and many other teachers he has an understanding of many things. Mainly concerned with mythology and lore he also has an understanding of the politics of the regions of Althanas and their respective stances towards the others. He also has some understanding of the economies of these regions and how trade and other variables affect the region. This knowledge allows him to be an interesting conversation partner and welcome in almost any circle.

Equipment: Weapons -
A simple Oak quarter-staff cut from the top branches of the great oak of his home forest it has a single silver band at each end. Also runes marking important events in his life are etched into it, starting at the top with the oldest and working their way down to the newest. This is simply a method of recording and they hold no extra properties. There is a simple leather sling across his back to carry the staff when needed.

A set of four, 4" steel throwing knives that belonged to his grandfather. They are kept in a two leather sheaths, one on each leg for ease of access.

Clothing -
A traveling robe given to him by his mother that has elvish runes stitched into it. These runes carry much knowledge but V'ryn does not yet have the wisdom nor the knowledge to understand anything of great importance but still wears it for the day when he has grown enough that he will understand their meaning.

Misc. -
A simple leather satchel that is used to carry his basic set of healing herbs which must be replenished often. Also kept in this bag are two books. One self written tome containing a mixture of journal entries, a record of interesting facts about Althanas's regions and people's and ancient lore he has learned as well as a few side notes on magic. The second is a tome he found in a dusty corner of the great library in his forest. It has a page he assumes is a sort of reference for the reader to help translate the rest of the book, but so far V'ryn has been unable to do so and has no idea as to the contents of this book.

Marksmanship and staffs...manship (I also am not sure if it's a word, lol) should be played at about average to above-average. I didn't want to get too picky since the way it was worded was something that could be acceptably taken as about that anyway. Hehe.

Anyway, welcome to Althanas, feel free to have at everything. Be careful with the magic!

Approved!
