Greetings fellow Althanians! I am both proud and happy to announce that there is now a School of Magic active and running within Dheathain. It is currently the only school of magic in Althanas, as the one in Raiaera is of course closed because of the war.

You can find the forum for Eolas Braoin here (http://www.althanas.com/world/forumdisplay.php?f=247). And the FAQ on it here (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?t=18327). The school boasts a number of facilities including an arena where students can fight captured monsters, a very well stocked library, dorm rooms and even a small tavern.

Of course, don’t be afraid to ask me any further questions if something is not answered in the FAQ thread.

Hey, where can we sign up for this?

You don't have to sign up for anything. This school operates in the same principal as the school of magic in Raiaera. You make the thread and play the teacher off as an NPC. The fee for going to the school is taken out when your thread is judged. Feel free to do it as a solo or get others involved in your schooling process.

If we have a different 'university' of magic in our bio, will we have to retcon it into being the one in Dheathain?

Just asking. o_o

EDIT: It wouldn't be too much trouble (I threw a mental dart at the Althanas 'verse and came up with Fallien), except that 'astromancy' isn't really covered by the school, nor would I want everyone running around dropping meteors ;)

You could put others in a bio, they just wouldn't have anywhere near the same academic standing or prestige.

Owing to its remoteness, it's also possible for there to be a few schools of magic over in Kebiras, but nobody in the mainlands would really have much experience with them.

EDIT: And actually: Compare Harvard to a community college.

That.

I agree with Caden, sure you came from a different school, look at Xos, he came from another reality. Just because it isn't the big name official school of the forums doesn't mean anything special. Sure not many people will of heard of it, it only makes it that much more special.

I mean, sure no althanian has ever heard of Kessingale University, but that doesn't make Xos's education there any less real. It's just something special for Xos.

I love the idea but I wish you would made it a much broader school of magic. Maybe mention that there is a possibility of personal tutoring when dealing with forms of types of magic that are uncommon or unheard of. I can think of a large majority of mages on Althanas that have styles that are completely unclassifyable under any of the courses the school teaches. I do understand that, like the old bard school in Raiaera, the school is intended to teach you magic that pre-exists. But it would be nice to also have a place to roleplay tutoring in the unique magic style that we create. I'd LOVE for Crusoe to visit, but as it currently stands he'd benefit very little from the experience.

Where in the description does it state you can't do your own self studies at the university? It has a huge library rivalled only in Dheathain by the library and records in Marach Mor, I'm sure there would be tons of information on many different types of magic that isn't offered at Dheathain, mainly because there is no master for that magic in the region. So I'm sure you can very easily find some kind of information on whatever it is you're looking for.

Hmm...I think Xos will come through there in his quest to re-empower his ring.

(It's gonna be a doozy of a thread to judge)
