View Full Version : To stop the smell
Xos had never been to Alerar before, but upon hearing that it was the most advanced nation in Althanas, decided to investigate it, perhaps there he'd find the answer to his problem, a way to save Kessingale.
But he had a far more pressing problem to solve right now. Valanthe refused to be anywhere near him until he could fix the smell.
Xos had to crawl through the sewer system of Kessingale, and the alien excrements smelled far more than one could ever hope to imagine. Though the robes looked clean, they would smell forever more, and even Xos wanted to be free of the dastardly stench surrounding him. Infact, everyone wanted the smell to be free, as evidenced when he stopped to ask for directions to the nearest clothing shop and got thirty-two different answers from sixty-four different people. In the process, three people got the dry heaves, two people lost their last meal, and one poor fellow passed out entirely from the smell. Xos took off quickly before the grumblings about borderline illegal smells turned into something serious.
So here he was, in front of a shop named "The Magic Spindle", as auspicious a name for a clothing store as any if ever there was one. He could see the robes for magic users all neatly hanging from hangers, he wondered what he'd walk out with. He whispered a quick prayer for someone with a strong stomach to help him, and opened the door. A bell tinkled at the door, and seconds later, it's enchanted mate tinkled in the back alerting the owner to the presence of a customer.
Xos wondered at the presence of such a thing, but realized it must be a convenience for any shop owner who, in the middle of concentrating on work, would not notice the first bell at the door.
Xos toyed with his ring, twisting it nervously, wondering what sort of person would come out of the back. It looked freaking expensive, as it was gold, and inlaid with a diamond, a sapphire, an emerald, and a ruby. It was Merlin's ring, the merlin belonging to Kessingale's reality, and only Xos could wear it.
He saw a pretty young woman with a shocked expression on her face that clearly said volumes about the disbelief she held that anyone could smell so bad.
"I uhh, I need some new wizard robes, and these need to be taken to an abandoned area where they can safely burn without poisoning anyone. Trust me, their poisonous if burned, they might even explode. No one, no one's ever dared to find out if the entire sewer will explode if fire is touched to the, ehh, stream, or if it just burns rapidly." Xos said.
He stood there embarrassed about smelling so horribly, and then cleared his throat to speak again.
"Sorry about the smell. The new Robes need to have this same set of symbols transcribed onto them."

Tiff was used to ugly, foul, and disgusting considering her older brothers, but this? This was just plain obscene. It was if the entire world took one giant crap and it was this man who was the bowl unfortunate enough to receive it.
"OOOOOOKKKKKAAAAYYYY" Tiff said grabbing the longest hook she had. She tossed him a get you by robe to wear as she took the other robe to the forest entrance and tossed the torch onto it. To her amusement a small explosion went off, and the robes burned slowly, very slowly. She came back in and observed the materials she had on hand and decided to try her luck.
"Okay, we got a very fair selection of materials and dyes to color them. Please pick anything that tickles your fancy. As for the inscribing I can throw that in for additional fee. So what material, color, and how many sets will you need?" she smiled.
"Well, color is meaningless and just variations on Wavelengths of light. Though I find white to be most appealing to me, based on the fact my two mothers always wore white, but that's because their Nurses and were frequently busy with their profession. My two fathers wore white a lot too, but that always coincided with when I needed comfort. So, I guess white it is. As for pairs, I need two, one for wearing, one for washing.
As for material, it needs to have a tensile strength great enough to withstand most scrapes and abrasions commonly accrued by the exciting profession commonly known as Adventuring, and the symbols must be in black.
If possible, I'd like pockets, deep pockets. Sometimes I think I need my own pocket dimension just to hold things I get during my travels."

Tiff scribbled all over her notepad the dimensions of the robe and sighed as her eyes played with the calculator. The job would be simple enough, and then it was back to boredom. The material would be a very heavy fabric, but light enough for ease of movement. The labor would be a bit intensive, not to mention getting the symbols done correctly.
"Okay, I can do this for a total of..." Her tongue held out to the side of her mouth. "125 gold coins. In addition we do offer a special protection plan for you new garb. If you go with it and something happens within the next year and half we will replace it, repair it, or allow you to get a refund for credit to use to upgrade or buy other wears. All that for the additional price of 19 coins." She smiled happily as she explained it.
((So in effect, for an additional 19 coins if you have the cloaks disintegrated, smelled up again, or it's no longer usable you can get repairs, replacement, or refund for credit. This lasts for a total of one and half levels. so mid level 2 for you. If you want more info please ask in character. New total =144 coins))
OOC: Xos doesn't know of his new level one skills ICly yet, thus his surprise.
"125 gold sounds reasonable. That includes stitching the symbols back onto them, right?
As for a Warranty, maybe, I mean I have to think about it. What if I've returned home to Kessingale to lay the foundations to save it, I mean that's in an entirely different reality in another Universe beyond the furthest stars here, how far does one's magic extend? How far can it extend? If I made a fireball, how far could it fly in theory before it dissipated? Even still, what about Temporal Anomalies, how are those taken into consideration? What if I find myself trapped in a timeless second for ten years. Is the time of the warranty relative to my time, or real time? Even though one second passed for me, and ten years passed for the rest of Althanas, would I still have the warranty, or would I be out of luck? What I'm saying is, how can a Warranty follow me across the length and breadth of Althanas, even into it's very depths, or home to Kessingale? I guess I'll give it a try, it should be an interesting experiment if nothing else."
Xos grabbed his money pouch, and pulled out 144 gold, and missed the counter by an inch. Or, he would've. In a reflex reaction, magic visibly leaped from Xos's fingers, and bent the time/space continuum, even the light became bent. The coins were angled onto the counter and landed neatly in a pile, but they fell so slowly that it seemed they would never fall. With a slight shudder everything returned to normal.
Xos stared at his fingers in speechless surprise. Clearly, he had never accomplished such a feat before.

She watched as the coins fell upon the counter, and she smiled to the wizard with a look of curiosity. She had never seen anything like that before, and she was impressed by the smelly man. Looking at his eyes she could see that he didn't mean to do that.
"Impressive..." She collected the coins. "It will take about two days for the job. Please return then." She said handing the money to her superior as she began to pull out the fabric required for this job.
___
Tiff smiled proudly as she placed the finished product on the rack to be given to the wizard when he returned. She pulled out her quill and began to write out the details of the warranty as she waited for him to return.
"I wonder if he has room for another wizard..." she imagined as she began to doodle her imagination away to paper.
Xos walked in all smiles and whistling a tune completely alien to Althanas. It was of course the KU school march, and it was a lively tune developed from military marches.
"Hello love, 'tis a wonderful day today isn't it? You might be wondering why I'm so unbelievably happy, and no it has nothing to do with the fact that my wife finally let me within a one mile radius of her presence. No I'm sure you remember the 'incident' with the coins? Well I did some thinking, and I realized, my power is growing! I'm not native to this world see, I come from beyond the farthest stars, an alternate universe, if you will. But more than that, an entire alternate reality. It's dying, and so is all it's power. When I first came here, I was extraordinarily weak. But I'm getting stronger. Althanas is a younger, stronger, healthier existence than Kessingale, and after having been here awhile, my powers are growing in accordance with Althanas' vast untapped strength. Those coins are just one sign. I suspect I have other, unknown additions to my power. I ran that scenario through my head dozens of times, and I've come to realize, one of my powers is going to be to control Time and Space itself! Just imagine the possibilities! Why, eventually, I could, I could maybe teleport, entire armies! It's actually simple, all you have to do is connect one set of Quantum Time/Space Coordinates with another, and BAM! Instant gateway. At least, in theory. I'm finding out that physical practice is much more difficult.
While I'm trying on my robes, though, I have a question." Xos said. He slipped off his rare gold jewel encrusted ring.
"That ring belonged to Kessingale's Merlin, of whom I am the eldest living direct male descendant. As such, that ring is now my ring through inheritance. Well, mine and about several million other peoples. But I slogged through the dang sewer system and confronted The Outer Darkness, so I earned it. Anyways, it once made it's wearer's magic more Potent. It still can, but the Inter-Dimensional Jump either sealed it, or broke it. So essentially, I need it either unsealed, or repaired. I have no doubt the enchanters at the local market could do a right fine job, but this is no ordinary ring, and all the money in Althanas could buy a proper fix. No, I need to find a true master in the art who would be willing to assist me with fixing my ring. You, you wouldn't happen to have an idea on that, would you?" Xos asked while he stepped into a changing room and switched robes.
OOC: It's a lead in to his quest he's going to start after this thread is over. Essentially, I just need a rumor to send him on his way. A point in the general direction. He's going to have to travel the world looking for the man, so feel free to be creative, but don't be restrict me, please. It can't be located in Scara Brae, because he'll have to visit again in later levels, and Scara Brae is level one only. But the clue could be in Scara Brae.
