NAME: Jack Strickland
AGE: 25
RACE: Human/Wizard
GENDER: Male
SKIN COLOR: Tan/Caucasian
HAIR COLOR: Alternates between dark and light brown.
EYE COLOR: A dull gray usually, but glows a pale blue sometimes when he's performing magic. He's just cool like that.
HEIGHT: 6'2"
WEIGHT: 182 lbs
OCCUPATION: Former thief/burglar and apprentice wizard, Jack spends his time these days looking for ways to increase his knowledge in magic.
PERSONALITY: Jack likes to think of himself as roguish and charming, and in some cases is right. However, it all depends on the company he's with. Sometimes his mouth shoots off before his mind can fully comprehend the words, resulting in what usually happens when people don't think before they speak. However, years of experience (and several black eyes later) have taught Jack how, if not to slow his mouth down, to at least incorporate it into his personality enough so that every wench with a bust size of C or over doesn't want to smack him upside the head when he wanders close enough.
Despite his cocksure attitude and somewhat independent mouth, Jack is surprisingly astute and knows above all else how to pay attention. An easy smile combined with just the right amount of pocket change can turn a simple "Hello" into a vault of information for someone like him. Give him a room full of Vikings and he'll be able to tell you their family history by lunchtime. Of course, he may have several bruises on his back from hearty slaps on said body part and his wallet may not be the fullest by the time lunch was served, but hey, information doesn't come cheap, even to a wizard.
Lastly, even though he's not a coward per se', Jack would defenitely talk, drink, buy or bluff his way out of a fight he knew he couldn't win than stand around and play the action hero. He knows his capabilities and his limits, and is just as frightened for his mortality as the next Average And Sloppy Joe. If he has to, he'll pick up his staff and blast along with the best of them, but don't go around asking him to do it for shits and giggles. He'll be wanting his money's worth after its all said and done.
APPEARANCE: Like his personality, Jack's general appearance gives off a definite air of roguish mischievousness. His brown hair, which never seems to be able to combed or brushed into submission from its haphazard array, and his scruffy, slightly unshaven face give the impression of a man who is simply not bothered by the mundane issues of proper appearance and manners. His clothing also is affected by this same temperament, being usually worn and faded, with several patches and holes to be seen in his jeans or t-shirts. One thing always remains the same though; he is always seen wearing a black leather duster, no matter where he goes.
SKILLS:
Spells
As per the law of all things, using magic costs something in return. Therefore Jack cannot use magic indefinitely, lest he wish to kill himself from overexertion, as the use of magic usually comes from the caster. The amount of energy each spell takes is noted next to each one on a scale of 1 to 10.
=Level 0=
Firebolt: A wizard's basic offensive spell, at the will of the caster a small jet of fire is shot forth at whomever or whatever he/she wills it to. The jet is not very large, and can range from the size of a stone to an arrow, and the speed of the bolt is about that of an arrow as well. [2]
Shield: A basic warding spell that momentarily blocks all incoming kinetic forces for a couple moments. It does NOT block such things like heat or psychic forces; only physical, kinetic forces cannot penetrate it. A superior force can break through the shield with enough exertion however, and how the shield is formed relates to its cost in energy. If the shield is formed as if it were, so to speak, a momentary hand-held shield, its cost would be about [3]. A full shield, a 360 degree covering around the person(s), would be [5]. There are other varieties as to using a shield, but a 360 covering is the hardest to maintain and thus costs the most energy.
Telekinesis: By manipulating the magical energies in the air, a wizard can move solid beings and objects through force of will. For Jack, he can manipulate objects and force up to about ten feet, lifting up to 40 lbs of weight or "pushing" with the strength of about 40 lbs. It is one of Jack's most commonly used spells. [1]
Wizard Traits/Abilities
Extended Life: Having now devoted his life to the practice of magic, his life force has been extended by a couple centuries or so through using magic and letting it become a part of him.
Thief Abilities
Natural Agility: Having spent most of his young life on the run, Jack inevitably picked up the reflexes and speed of those of his trade through trial, error, and pure dumb luck. He is now 1.5x faster than the average human being his size and weight, and can run about 10 mph. His reflexes and ability to dodge and weave are also increased by 1.5x.
Marksman: He is an average marksman when it comes to projectile weapons like bows and crossbows, more from his natural hand-eye coordination than any real practice with it.
ITEMS:
-Wizard's Staff: An oak staff, about 5 feet long and with runes engraved at both ends, it helps him focus his magical energies so he can control it and direct it.
-Hand-Crossbow (w/ bolts): A simple crossbow meant for one hand, you have to reload after each shot. Bolts are made of iron.
-Backpack: A small, black back pack procured from Earth with a strap mean to go over one shoulder. Carries mundane items such as food, money, supplies, etc.
-Beginner's Book of Magic: A small, rather obscure book with several spells for the average apprentice left for Jack after the demise of his teacher. As his knowledge of magic grows, so does the number of spells and tips he can procure from the book.
HISTORY: Jack started out in the rough streets of Philadelphia as an orphan, a nobody with no one to call family. He quickly fell in with a gang of thugs and began committing crimes up until he turned 18, whereupon the gang and him tried robbing the wrong store. It seemed to be nothing more than an old antique shop, but the woman who worked there managed to disable all of the members without breaking a sweat. Jack fully expected to be turned into the police that night but instead got a surprise; after a careful inspection, the old woman asked him if he would like to become her apprentice. He didn't have much choice; it was either that or prison.
So he became her new apprentice, and that is how it stayed for over six years. He learned all about the world around them, the world outside the world, the magic in the air and such, and was perfectly content until one day an assassin came through a portal in her home and killed his teacher. Jack managed to take the assassin by surprise and kill him, and, taking his belongings with him, stepped through the portal into the realm of Althanas.
