Miscellaneous

Name: Dr. Dorian Ionos
Age: 26
Height: 5'10
Weight: 170 lbs
Hair Color: Russet
Eye Color: Champagne
General Appearance: Dorian is of medium build and medium height, with a lightly muscled frame and a generally athletic appearance. He has not, however, gained such a look by fighting or war, but rather by participating in sports throughout his days at Radasanth's Glissando Conservatory. His face is handsome, as is his body, and he has been the subject of many a romantic pursuit.

History

Dorian was born a son of privilege, raised in a family gifted with much money, much power, and much tradition. His father was Lord Lorian Ionos, a nobleman whose family had been accorded high respect in the Council of Radasanth for nearly six centuries. A man of great lineage and power, Lorian Ionos was a firm authoritarian parental figure, never reluctant to administer harsh physical discipline when Dorian misbehaved.

If his father was the point in his family relationship -- a rough and dull point ever willing to beat itself upon others -- then Dorian's mother, Lady Grace was the counterpoint. Soft and gentle, she loved both Dorian and Lorian greatly, despite how different the two were. In a way, the two men, though one would never guess their close relation, were alike. They were both gentle with her, and they both benefitted from her influence.

It was Lady Grace whose musical talents most affected young Dorian. Every evening she would sing for her husband and her son, and during the day she would instruct the boy in the finer arts of musical theory and form. He was composing by age seven, and although he was not a child prodigy his creations did reveal a depth of musical talent that Lady Grace noted with excitement. She began doing what she could to insure he was accepted into the Glissando Conservatory, the premiere Radasanth school for fine musical arts, upon his coming of age at fifteen.

Although Lord Lorian disapproved of the idea, thinking music to be a profession for women and elves, he was unable to deny his wife her dream. Dorian, too, appreciated his mother's attention, and would go to the library often in order to read books on music. In this way he spent the years of his life before his fifteenth birthday.

He was accepted into the Conservatory with much fanfare. In the entrance exams for students, he scored the top score among seven hundred other applicants, and his work submitted for the Composition and Conducting School of the Conservatory was second to none. He was afforded a full scholarship, which his father declined. Lord Lorian gave the scholarship to a needy applicant who showed promise but had little money, as he could afford to send his son to the Conservatory without financial assistance. (Such gestures of charity and benevolence are common among Radasanthian high society.)

After graduating top of his class after the six years in Conservatory, Dorian found in his graduation gifts an odd stone. With it came a note. Mr. Dorian Ionos, I present to you the gift of this Song Stone. I have taken the liberty of activating the first two notes of the scale. The rest is up to you. From an Admirer.

The stone was smooth and red, about half the size of his palm, and shaped somewhat like a domed paperweight. When Dorian held it alone, it did nothing. Yet, after some experimentation (after all, his curiosity was getting to him), he found that if he held a baton he could influence the stone to emit the C and D notes. As he continued graduate studies, he managed to finally elicit all seven notes from the stone.

When he finally completed graduate work, receiving a Doctorate Degree in Composition and Conducting. Upon the last round of gifts from well wishers and suitors (both male and female), he received a long, slender baton engraved with seven strange symbols. With it came a note. This goes with your Song Stone. Use it well. From an Admirer.

Now, Dr. Dorian Ionos discovered that by using his baton with his Song Stone, he could elicit magic from the stone. Before, he had thought the stone merely a curiosity, and oddment, a toy given by a besotted piner. But now he new otherwise...and he wanted to know who had given it to him.

Skills

Composition

Dorian can compose songs, ballads, orchestras, showstopping stage numbers -- anything that involves music. He can by composing in a certain "mode," imbue a song he writes with magical effects. Currently, however, Dorian can only imbue songs written in the Ionian mode. As he progresses, he may be able to open up his composition to magic in the six other tone modes.

Ionian Mode

Songs written in the Ionian Mode are songs of protection and solace. They can offer temporary protection from injury, strengthen armor, defend against magic, or other effects that have protection as their MAIN and ONLY component.

Dorian can only compose one song per thread, and if that song has a magical affect then the moderator of that thread is to determine its appropriateness to Dorian's level and the degree, if any, it should be changed.

The Song Stone

The Song Stone can project each note of the scale, from A to G, in one octave. Dorian suspects it is capable of other octaves, but is unable to get it to that point as of now. He can only elicit its magical effects, however, when holding it and his Engraved Runic Baton at the same time.

Dorian suspects each note has a different affect, but for now he can only get the notes C and D to produce their magic.

C - Produces a sudden gust of wind, which emanates from the tip of the baton. Fairly forceful, enough to push small rocks and debris. Not useful in combat except as a distraction or a diversionary tactic.

D - A much more useful "battle spell," the D note produces a thin stream of fire which extends for four feet in front of the caster and lasts as long as the note is held. Difficult to hold for longer than thirty seconds, but it can be recast.

And that's Dorian. Approved? Make changes?
