All right, so I know I don't really post much outside of ToC, but here I am.

I'm working on an article which requires decent knowledge of rap and hip hop. I've got the 80's and 90's covered, but I'm at a loss for how one would go about deciding which albums from 2000-2009 would be considered important, pivotal, etc. For example, Eminem's debut would be one such important album, as would be Jay-Z's debut. But I don't listen to rap, so I'm not getting too far.

If anyone here listens to rap, knows about rap, or knows someone who could just name off a few important rappers/albums/events from 2000 onwards, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks to anyone who can help me out. I'll post the article here when I'm done with it.

Unfortunately, you'd be better off focusing on the emergence of the crunk subgenre of rap for the 00s, rather than single albums. Li'l Jon, Petey Pablo, Ying Yang Twins, etc.

I can't help you any further than that--crunk is why I stopped listening to rap. It was like listening to a "Rhyming for Dummies" and "Phat Beats 099" double seminar.

Well, that might work. See, the article is comparing an astonishing linear progression of rap/hip hop following almost the exact course that rock music took. Even the years are the same, albeit twenty years apart. So, if crunk is a genuine progression of rap music, then it'd fit.
