View Full Version : Looking for someplace to start
So I've recently been approved and I'm not quite sure where to start. So I was wondering if anyone had any quest ideas they were hoping to get off the ground and that they might need a jolly-gray-giant for? I'd also be willing to brainstorm with some folks if anyone has anything to start with.
I hope this is the right section of the forums to post this, I'm just looking for a quest to get involved with and I'm not quite sure where to begin. All comers are welcome. Feel free to post here or PM me, either works.

well Eburk welcome, and umm let's see what task's does this maniacal mind have in store.
do you want common and 'heroic' tasks or humorous or a quest where u are leading it one way, and it swing's the other way creating the un expected ^.^

I wanna go on a treasure hunt!
I haven't done that in so long. You giant and my Fae should get together and raid some ancient, collapsing ruins that for some reason haven't been pillaged before, are filled with ridiculously strong monsters that we have to fight to the death to claim the horde of treasure they have acquired for some reason. Then, at the last second the ruins start collapsing because we have unbalanced it by taking the last piece of treasure and we must run for our lives to get to safety!
Yep, sounds good to me. ^^

well if you do need someone for a treasure hunt or anything at all i am here ^.^
I'd be all for a three-way treasure hunt. Who wants to get the ball rolling?
Witchblade
02-27-09, 09:42 AM
Well, first off, where would we like to have it? Almost every single region is a good place to go treasure hunting, they all have ruins. Corone, Fallien and Dheathain are possibly some of the more pominent ones.
So, Eburk, you're the newbie, where you would like to start? ;)
Lord Anglekos

Corone, Fallien and Dheathain...
STOP THIS MADNESS. I BESEECH YOU!
I would offer to join in, but it seems you guys already have a full FF party. Unless you're going all FF9 and having four people in one (which was awesome; THANK YOU Tetsuya!).
However, you seem like an interesting noob. Want to do something else sometime?
Witch- Corone sounds like a fun place to start.
Lord Anglekos- I'd be more than happy to quest with you sometime. Hell if you want to join in on this quest, I have no problem with it. It's up to Witch and Bandit. I'm game for whatever.

Oh, you can stomach me anyday.
Wait.
What?
Anyways, sure thing. I think Eric might be in Corone anyways for another reason. Ehehehe, don't worry Witchy, he'll be back to Dheathain often. (not like he's got much choice...<_<) I'll post last, as you guys already took the first three spots and I'm tired of starting threads. D:
Sounds good. Would you do the honors of starting it up Witch? Dunno if you had something in mind.

Bitch. Knew it. Ah well, life wouldn't be fun if we knew everything ahead of time.
Oh, by the way, I've got another question in the Runes thread. Yeah, I know I know...just answer it. Or perish.
So! Treasure hunting, eh? Well then...should we plan out what kind of treasure we'll be seeing or just wanna leave it up to whoever/whatever wants what?
EDIT: You're gonna use Lasair. With her plushies?! Well, that'll be some interesting character interaction. xD

well. anything really is good for bandit, unless i can get like some crazy badass sword (which i should be getting after my bazaar purchase anyway) so nah i just want lots and lotsa gold from it lol

Lord Anglekos
02-27-09, 10:33 AM
Keep in mind, it all depends on where we're going to be exploring. Unless its a room just full of random shit, it might be kinda odd to walk into an armory and find a tomb of magic in there, unless it was with the body of some magician. We want to make sense here, people.
(Oh great, says the pot to the kettle...)
Lady Blackwell
02-27-09, 10:36 AM
lol, well if it's an armory and its full of animated zombies we know theres a mage or warlock arounf, and i shall steal his book ^.^ or you know its a magical zombie that reads from it and creates element's
or dead body or ... ya endless possibilities.
Lord Anglekos
02-27-09, 10:40 AM
Since zombies are essentially braindead (ha ha ho ho -.-), I think it's safe to assume that the undead magical being would probably be a ghoul or something like that. When people hear "zombie" they think; *shuffle shuffle moan groan bite*. That kind of stuff.
But you're right. While not endless, because we don't wanna be ridiculous or suicidal, there's a lot.

I hope you guys don't mind, but I finalized the setting. Its an abandoned temple city, like the Mayans of old. Thought that might be the best place for random treasure to be. Witchy, I don't know if the goddess he describes might fit any on Althanas, but if it doesn't, lets make up one. Some old, presumed dead being or something.
I'm fine with whatever, haha. Glad I didn't have to do it :P

Zombies, giant spiders and bandits, oh my!
Lets go beyond the norm here.
Since we're in a temple city, there's bound to be a few acolytes or priests still lurking around, and some creatures that have made the abandoned places their holes. These creatures should probably attack any human (or humanoid) they come upon, if they feed on flesh at all. If they do, we'll probably find the corpses of acolytes or priests around with their flesh ripped off or something, and will probably attack if we're in the middle of a fight with these other people. More food after all. If they don't feed upon flesh, we should probably assume they're intelligent and are here for some other purpose than residence or food. In fact, I was thinking that maybe we'd come upon one of the children of the goddess who was hoping to resurrect the city in his/her image instead, and in order to reach the main treasure or something we have to do battle with and defeat this demi-god, and upon his/her defeat the city starts crumbling from the epicness of it and we must flee as Witchy says.
Sound good?
:D
EDIT: When you put it like that, Eburk, it makes me think more along the lines of D&D, which could be interesting. Another assorted party of adventurers comes in shorty or before we do, and upon seeing competition attacks? The adventurers could be carrying valuable items of their own, y'know.
Lady Blackwell
02-27-09, 02:18 PM
well hmm outside the box then? is there really any box on althanas? lol
let me tinker with the wheels in my head and .... haha as we enter we set off these trap's see, and we dont realize it tell we come to a room with theres a whole bunch of 'things' dead we assume acolytes but theyre like gentically modified.
anyways as we cross this huge room trap's will start going off and one of the big trap's drops like genetic experiments in on us ..... that the Demi-god had been experimenting on, and if its a she demi-god then she could be an attractive woman and thats how she got her 'lab rats' so to speak
Lord Anglekos
02-27-09, 02:46 PM
Maybe. But I'm thinking he/she will be more diabolical than anything. "Playing God", to put in a phrase. Think like...well, since you're into Bleach, Aizen. He doesn't seduce; he just takes what he wants, modifies it, etc... But the genetic experimentation idea isn't bad, except I was thinking the acolytes and priests would be our magic-based enemies, whereas the monster baddies would be our physical problems. Let's see what Megan says when she gets back.

You guys really like making this way more complicated than it has to be. o.O
It's an abandoned temple now, zombies, ghouls, walking skeletons? Where are they coming from and how were they created? Zombies don't just rise out of the ground on their own. If you're going to have something in a quest there needs to be a cause and effects of that thing in there. So, it's someplace abandoned that apprently was an old worship site of some ancient Goddess, well then, you'd definitely have some monsters in there that have made it their home. Don't think traps, they've been done to detah. Think about the fact that the ruins are old and crumbling. They'll be plenty of natural disasters we'll have to avoid. Collapsing tunnels and walls, the roof, loose stones, trees roots, water... etc.
Remember K.I.S.S. (no, I'm not kissing you Bruce, I mean Keep It Simple Stupid) when writing things people. So it would be itneresting to find another group that has been camping out at the temple for a little while, researching it and trying to find a way to bring back this Goddess of whatever. John, no more freaking dead things walking around! We're not in Raiaera and Xem'zund is not attacking us. :p

Godammit. WAY to get my hopes up there. Jeez. D:< Unibrow man is angry.
Anyhoo, you heard the lady. No zombies or undead, Xem'zund's got enough of those. And I'll have the "trap" Eric "sprung" just be an accidental sword poking out or something. You get the idea.
So, we've got monsters.
And we've got other group, which'll either be another party of "adventurers" out for gold or people interested in reviving the old goddess and bringing her back to power.
Does this mean we're scrapping the demigod idea? And no acolytes/priest/thingies?
Witchblade
02-28-09, 10:32 AM
No acyloites and priests. We can have our 'boss' battle be some basilisk or something that guards the inner most chambers of the temple city, where relics of the Goddess are stored and things like that. The other group can help us here and a few of them can die and then they can turn on us, or they can just accept the fact that they won't be able to kick our asses in, whatever.
Lord Anglekos
02-28-09, 10:39 AM
Alright, sounds good. Now I'm just waiting for Bandit Brother to post, then I'll make mine. The monsters...I don't want to fight giant spiders. No giant spiders. Please. In fact, it'd probably be more interesting if the creatures weren't any variety of "giant" at all. Oh sure, we can have the occasional enormous boa constrictor or something, as Eburk needs to pick on something his own size, but it'd probably be more interesting if the creatures were humanoid in size and appearance. Since the 'boss' will probably be some giant reptilian beast, i.e. the prementioned basilisk...how about lizard men? Haven't seen them around much. If someone has a different idea than mine they think will be better, just shout it out...I'm working on less than half an hour of sleep here.

DOUBLE POST BECAUSE I'M IMPORTANT.
Not really. This is important though. I bunnied each of your characters a little to get this thread truly started, as so far we have a whole bunch of speculating and small talk. If we'd continued dancing around each other like that we would have gone nowhere with this, but if you have any problem with how I portrayed your characters in my post or that I used your character, please let me know. Also on this, you each have my permission to bunny my character as long as you keep true to his personality and dialogue. If you have any questions on how he fights/works/etc...just PM me.
In my post I'm trying to determine a definite idea of what the ruins look like. I'm assuming the outer wall would be relatively well fortified, but small, small enough that our characters could see over to take note that there were numerous structures. Here's what I've established: the ruins are comprised of a series of pyramids, the center one being marked with the spire that Eric made mention of. There are about five-feet-wide passages between each pyramid. The formation would be like this (X's mark pyramids, O is the center pyramid):
X X O X X
The center would contain the most valuable of the treasures while the surrounding pyramids were various city buildings or buildings meant specifically as decoys and traps to outsiders. Statues of the goddess litter the paths between pyramids and there are obviously many crumbling rocks around from the pyramids falling apart. Thoughts?
Lord Anglekos
03-01-09, 01:11 PM
Something like that. I think 5 feet is a little small for passages in between the pyramids, as this is a city and people did live and trade in it at one time. But otherwise everything else is fine with me. What about everyone else? I'm just waiting for BB to make his post.
I just realized I never put in a set number for the paths between the pyramids, so we can leave it as an ambiguous number.

Umm, Bruce... I hereby renounce your permission to bunny Lasair in any further posts. She's child-like... not retarded. >.> Think of an innocent 10 year-old. Would one of them really grab a robe that was just clearly on a dead body, wrap it around their body and check themselves out in shards of glass nearby? Highly doubtful. That's something a woman obsessed about her looks would do.
She'd be more likely to look at the clearly dead body and then cling to someone in a child-like manner, looking at them and asking a question with a very obvious answer like 'Is it dead?'
Just to cement it in your head (which I thought I did in my last post) Lasair does not feel greed.

That's much better, by the way, just so I don't have to search for it in the list, what is that material Eric wants Lasair to identify? And yes, she may even know it if it's not on the list being a shop owner and all.
Lord Anglekos
03-03-09, 06:01 PM
It's sort of a fabric/hide mix. The inhabitants would kill lizard-like creatures and sew their skin, muscle and sometimes even the scales into the cloth. The cloth is just burlap or linen, something simple like that, it's the hide part makes it special. I figured whatever lizardlike creatures would attack upon seeing the cloak as they would remember them being slaughtered for the material.
God I'm tired.

I'm going to go with no for the group of Bandits. I thought we'd decided on it being another group of adventurers, scholars, preists, something of the ilk that are researching information there on the old civilization and decide that in all their scholarly wisdom they can bring back the old Goddess and control her.
Where'd Eburk go? He hasn't said anything in a while.

and okay! so a group of adventurer's/scholars
Lord Anglekos
03-04-09, 09:07 AM
Speaking of the old goddess. I was thinking she would represent Lust, obviously, and not just the sexual meaning. Lust for everything; money, power, wealthy, sex, etc. She could also be tied into an old god or goddess of Greed, or something. I don't know, this is something I'm coming up with on the fly. If you have something better in mind, just let me know.
So. We have the band of other adventurers/scholars trying to bring this bitchgoddess back. We're going to need some reason to fight/kill these people, otherwise it'll probably go against a couple character's ethics. For example, mine. He won't kill unless it's justified. And I'm guessing Eburk's isn't some rampaging slaughterer hiding behind a kind face and gentle touch either, but I could be wrong. I'd rather not try and guess at your characters, BB and WB, but you get the point; how will we know that this other group is/are "bad guys"?
Hey folks, got back a few hours ago. I'm rather tired from the trip and from a distinct lack of sleep last night. Soon as Witch posts I'll be on it, though. Be it tonight or tomorrow or whenever.
I like the idea of the goddess representing Lust. Sounds pretty cool to me.

And I had to work last night, so no posty for me. I'll try to do it this morning but my brain feels really dead for some reason.
And Lasair is definitely not the rampaging, killing type. I tend to leave that for Witchblade. ;)
What I figured is we might not even need to kill the other group. I know we discussed a basilisk being hidden deep within the ruins, perhaps the form the Goddess was trapped in, or her guardian that's still alive. Anyway, we've obviously going to have to fight it, and it can kill off some of the adventurers/scholars for us. Besides, there's nothing that says we have to kill them. We can team up with them without even knowing their true purpose. They could lie to us very easily.

Mmmmm. True. I'm thinking the basilisk should be a guardian; even if she was trapped in that form, three level zeroes and one level two would have a very, very hard time killing a goddess. Who's to say that in that form she wouldn't be able to perform magic? 'Cetera. So yeah, I think an old, forgotten guardian would be better. I was thinking of the whole "they LIE to us!?" thing as well, or mayhaps they might mistake our people for being fellow scholars or trying to raise Ms. Bitchgoddess as well. Unless they're the whole cackling I'mtheultimateEvil type, which I figured would be too cliche'.

I'm so over the ultimate evil type.
Hey, Eburk, how are you taking all of this brainstorming over your first simple quest? :p We're not pushing too many ideas on you, are we? Sometimes you just get a little quiet during the whole process when you need to jump in and throw some of your own ideas around (John's not allowed to anymore because all he thinks about are undead things).

(John? o_O)
I figured you would be. And I agree; Eburk, you're too darned quiet. Darn you. Darn you to heck, Mr. Rock Giant man.

(i am john)
Undead is not all i think off, Ghouls and banshee's aswell, and hey dont forget my characters bandit clan
and well i can be quiet imaginative if i want, undead is just the basic starter
I'm just sorta sitting back and watching the creative process the first time around :) - I'm sure in some of my subsequent quests I'll be a bit more vocal. That said, a page or two ago I threw out my idea for how I think the city looks, haha.

Who wouldn't wanna be Vincent Law?
Can't wait to see what you post Eburk. I may not be able to post after Bandit Brother tonight, as I'm only here at the library until six, but if not I will tomorrow. Ugh...stupid laptop.

Lord Anglekos

Your post, fool.
And I"m not about to go into an discussion about the awesomeness or non awesomeness of Vincent Law here. So forgeddaboutit, bud.
Nice post, Eburk. I'm figuring Maxi will go in next and Eric will go in last, by our posting order.
Alright, TOD time. (Tunnel of DOOM.) We head into said tunnel into the city itself, or should it lead us deeper underground?
Lady Blackwell
03-06-09, 02:57 PM
hey i shall post when i get home ^.^ im just about to leave work so it shouldnt be overly long
In terms of where the tunnel leads us, I'm neutral. If the tunnel took us underground, I'd assume the story's pacing would pick up and become much more action-packed much quicker. If it lead us into the inner city, it seems like the pace would stay similar to what it currently is. Totally up to you guys.
Also, I had back to college on Monday, which means my posting time may be a bit slower than previously. I apologize in advance.

Bandit Brother still needs to post.
It's alright, Eburk. We all know the constraints of reality, and I'm sure Witchblade can empathize with you totally.

*emerges from half awake reality of studying this weekend*
I... liiiiiiiiiiiiiiveee
I think we should have it emerge underground as we don't want this quest to go on forever at the same pace of nothing happening. :p

I like the turtle's pace, thank you!
Lol, just kidding. Alright, in my next post I'll have Eric go forward and find...what? More paths? Bits of treasure to tempt us? The other adventurers/researchers? Lizard like beasts waiting to consume our flesh?
Witchblade
03-09-09, 09:51 AM
I would say have the tunnel branch out into a few different paths, how ever many is up to you. They can pick which one to go through because they hear voices coming from one and down that tunnel leads them to a chamber where the other group has set up some sort of camp equiped with the usual camping things, like torches, tents, a small fire...etc. You know what I mean.

well, i don't really mind where it goes or what we find, preferably something interesting.

Eburk appears to have disappeared, we can continue on with the quest if you guys want to or we can just scrap it. It's not like we were that far into it. I don't care either way. If you do want to move forward though, I'll edit my post and have the tunnel collapse, separating up from Eburk.
Lord Anglekos
04-01-09, 05:43 PM
I vote for continuing, personally.
