Lathienas Miraq
03-05-09, 02:00 PM
My Character's Profile:
Name: Lathienas Miraq(may be abbreviated to Thien)
Age: 27
Race: Half-Elf
Hair: Shoulder length, black with a greenish oily sheen.
Eyes: Grey, ever so slghtly slanted and often bloodshot.
Height: 5` 11``
Weight: about 165 pounds
Personality: A fairly easy going man in general, but can be a little absent minded at times. He is always wanting to move on to bigger and more interesting things and it takes a real force of will, either from him or a friend to keep him engaged on a single task. However, if he decides to put his mind fully to a task, he will put as much as he can in (at least until he becomes bored). When n this state he can become quickly annoyed with anyone not keeping up with his train of thought. He is joking in manner and will often appear to not take things serously, but will often spout pieces of wisdom, seemingly at random but often as not usefull nonetheless.
Appearance: Relatively lean but not muscly. Not weak per se, just more geared for fleeing than fighting. Wears a linen shirt and animal-hide trousers, covered by a leather travelling cloak. Although this offers limited protection from missile weapons, a good piercing blade will easily bypass it. Wears leather boots up to mid-shins. These are devoid of ornamentation and are old and well-worn. Wears a metal braided bracelet on his left wrist and has a blue tattoo (stained rather than needlework) of an intertwining design on his right ring finger. His belt is adorned with many pouches and pockets, the largest of which is his runestone pouch. He also carries a self-fashioned club in his belt. A single braid runs down the centre of his hair, with a small iron lizard motif tied into the end. This is purely decorational. He sports a beard, just long enough to be plaited (black). He has high cheekbones and a nose the that is quite long and thin but has a rounded end.
History: Unusually for a half-elf who leads a hermitic life, Thien is not an outcast from his settlement. He was a dreamy and often arrogant youth. Born of a human mother and an elvish father he combined her dreamishness with his headstrong and stubborn nature. He was always doted upon by the elders of his settlement however and it was they who taught him to read and write, both the elvish script and the common language of the human traaders. When he was 16 and came of age (thus acquiring his tattoo), he decided he wished to seek out more of the world and as such headed out. He encountered many inhabitants of the world on his travels but in particular but was struck by the serenity of many whose religious fervour had led them to what he calls, 'true being'. He now searches the land for his own version of this perfect state of mind, wandering wherever his whims take him and occasionally returning to his homeland to visit family and the elders of his settlement. When he was 23, he returned on one such excursion to find his settlement had been razed by wandering barbarians. Eyes blinded with tears that he had vowed never to shed, he wandered among the shells and corpses until he happened across the body of the town Primarch. He knelt by the fallen man's side and saw that the raiders had failed to take the bracelet that was the Peimarch's badge of office and also an iron hairpiece in the shape of a lizard (the settlement was near a river that was populated by a number of such reptiles). He took both and silently claimed the title born by them for his own. Although he was naturally stricken by the grief of loosing his world's anchor and the self-imposed burden of Primarchy, Thien also felt freer to pursue anything, no longer based in one place. This mental and spiritual freedom that he felt seemed to allow him to imbue his writings, his last great tribute to his settlement's elders, with powers unbeknown to him before...
Skills:
Runic Magic: Thien has learnt a way of imbuing writing with magic. He carries a small pouch of stones that are smooth and ready to be inscribed with writings. For a quick and ready spell he can just ink on the letters, and to this end his carries and small bottle of ink and several horsehair brushes. However to achieve larger potential he can also carve the runes directly into the stones. In theory (and he has studied the idea with great zeal) any ability or power can be replicated. However to do so would require huge stones and acres of writing. He always keeps a few generic 'Minor ball' and 'heal minor wounds' type things prepared but anything else would require preparation. The spells are activated by making a specific movement over the stone and then applying it with some degree of force to the area wanted to affect. The stones are destroyed when used but he can pick up new pebbles regularly as long as they are smooth.
[I]Spells: These are the spells he can currently scribe runes for:
Fire/Shockball: A small (15cm or less) ball of specifed element that erupts when the stone strikes the target.
Tangle Weeds: The striking stone sprouts weak (easily cut with a knife) vines that entangle the target briefly.
Healing Magic: Will heal cuts and abrasions and temporarily stop bleeding in large wounds though reapplication is neccesary every half-hour or so and proper help would need to be sought quickly as he would run out of stones after a couple of hours.
He may also carve runes into a club/staff etc to grant small area affect abilities, but these will only survive for a while before they wear away. This ability can also be used on the stones to improve strike damage.
Inking the runes is quicker but less effective (2-5 min effect or 15 mins heaing) and doesn't affect weaponry at all. Carving takes longer but the effect lasts longer (up to ten mins or half an hours healing). The only rune that effects the weaapon is the hardening one and it must be physically activated before the fight is joined for it to be effective.
These abilities are taken as read. Small, context-specific stones (such as unlocking simple locks etc.) may be created during games (at the discretion of the GM obviously) but these are the only combat spells Thien can use as yet...
Athletiscism: He can run fairly fast and is adept at climbing and such like due to living for a long time in the forests and searching for foodstuffs.
Equipment: Club (basically a stout stick, wider at the bludgeoning end than the handle), Various pouches full of gold and other knick-knacks (assorted keys, coins of foreign/ancient origin etc) and Runestones, Ink and brushes/quills, a wood carving knife and a hammer and a couple of chisels for inscribing stones.
