I am putting his history first as it makes his appearence and personality etc, make more sense.
History:
Othar was originally a human, who inhabited a small village in
Concordia. From a very early age, Othar demonstrated great
potential as a mage. He was a skilled telekinetic, in particular
the field of pyrokinesis. He would amuse himself and his
playmates by throwing blades and sparks around. With his innate
abilities he ignored all the traditional teachings of his family
and resisted all atempts to educate him in terms of language and
numerate ability. His father was a trained warrior and pushed
him towards swordplay and the honor codes of a warrior. When it
became apparent that he was intent on the path of a magi, his
father relentlessly pursued the idea of a warlock over healer or
other such arts.
Unfortunately his abilites made him cocky, some would say
arrogant and he constantly bragged of his achevements to both
his peers and elders. Eventually, when he reached the age of
twelve, he was enrolled in a school for magic users. Althouh his
skills in his chosen area were well-developed, especially for
his age, Othar lacked discipline and control of other powers.
His tutors did not look kindly onhis attitude and his work ethic
was not that of a commited learner. He progressed slowly but was
neverany less convinced of his greatness.
While enrolled in the school, he met his heart-mate, Ekendra
Thalen. She was an illusonist by trade and always wore a
playfull smile. She was able to appeal to his under-nature,
below the cocky exterior, using her charms to gain his
confidence. They spent much time together, both in and away from
their classes. By the time they had been together for two years,
at the age of fourteen they had shared much that was intimate to
them both. He was comletely enamoured and it showed through his
life, his abrasive manner had softened somewhat and his studying
was improving exponentially.
At the age of fiften his Tutor at that time had explained to him
the possibilities afforded by full body transportation:
Teleportation. There are myriad dangers to this form of magic as
uncontrolled use can lead to death or worse. Naturally, he
ignored these warnings and started to experiment with the ideas
himself. During one of these experiments, involving Ekendra and
an excursion to a nearby field, he successfully executed the
technique.
A flash of searing heat ran through both of their bodies as they
dematerialised. A second later he felt a cool wind on his back.
He was lying face-down on a dirt track. There was no sign of
Ekendra anywhere nearby. As he got to his feet, Othar noticed a
strange goo coating his limbs. He looked at said imbs and
screamed. It transpired that his reappearence had placed him in
the exact same space that was occupied by a large beetle. The
reslting magical paradox had merged the two beings together.
Although he was largely still human inside, he felt animalian
instincts also. His body had been mutated beyond belief by the
encounter. Looking around, he sought Ekendra. He found her as
she crawled across the floor, having been flung away by the
power of the paradox. She was now merely inches tall and also
resembeled the beetle they had collided with. They both now
wander the world of Althanas, looking for somene capable of
curing their plight.
Personality:
He was always arrogant, although Ekendra tempers this with her
presence, even in her current state. The bestial side of his
nature affects his personality deeply. He is extremely bitter
about his predicament and as such can feel only base feelings.
He cannot feel love, only pure bestial lust. Instead of Joy, he
can feel only a vicious triumph at others failings. He tends to
sarcasm and self-pity, often running over problems and making
them worse instead of seeking a solution.
Appearence:
Othar is still humanoid in form. His whole body is coated in
black, resin like chitin. His features are human but his head
has chitin covering the top, with two antenna protruding above.
His belly is slightly bloated and is a mottled blue/yellow. the
exoskeleton is weaker here than anywhere else. His legs are
scaled and terminate in hoof-like feet. His back has a large
plate of chitin over it (much like a shieldbug) that makes him
appear wider from behind. There are red 'eye' patterns on this
backplate. There are a pair of withered and pointless wings
coming from his shoulder-blades. His hands have three scaled
fingers and claws at the ends.
The chitin is about the strength of leather except on his belly where it is somewhat weaker. Also is does not cover his joints or face.
Skills:
Insectile senses: He can detect movement and sounds within 2m
with ease and up to 10m with intense concentration
Bestial Lust: He becomes overcome by his base instincts and will
attempt to subdue opponents by any means possible as this is the
only way to satisfy his urges as most people are repulsed by the
sight of him.
Equipment: None
Familiar: Ekendra Thalen
She appears similar to him but is only a few inches high, is
female and has wings that work.
She can project an image of her former self (that is a leggy
blonde in varying attire) for a few hours at a time. This
projection is semi-corporeal and thus not entirely solid. It
cant interact with anything and is merely for show/ temptation
etc.
She is cheeky and playful, and when displayed as a human she
will attempt to seduce men just to see the look when she
vanishes.
