No minors. Get out.

Anyways.

So I just got home from buying some beer, and to my horror, I realized that the six pack I thought was guinness was actually Heinekin. I am not pleased. I absolutely detest Heinekin, as it's so thin there's almost nothing there. But I've decided something else; I'm through with 9/10 of lagers. There are so few out there that I like; most taste like shit, most don't go well with food, and most have such a low percentage I wonder why I even bother.

Rant on!

How did you confuse Guinness and Heinekin? Were you already a few beers short of an earlier six pack?

As far as lagers go, I stick to my George Killian's Irish Red. Goes nice with a burger and fries - of the restaurant variety, not fast food - and has a nice flavor. Ales and stouts are more my style though - and being in the Northeast I've had my taste for mainstream brews spoiled by a lot of excellent microbrew operations like Long Trail and Harpoon Brewery. The kind of beers you drink to enjoy, not get bombed on.

I don't really ever get drunk off beer anyways - a beer drunk is a bad drunk. That and it can take several beers to get going, which can be an uncomfortable amount of liquid to put in your gut if you're like me. If I'm looking for AC by Volume I stick to hard liquor.

Minors drink, dude. Where I'm from, more so than adults. Let the young'uns in.

Part of me wants to be a jerk and ask how you could possibly mistake Heinekin for Guinness, since last I knew they weren't spelled the same. Hell, the cases are two completely different colors, even. Green =/= Black. Unless you were inebriated at the time of purchase. In either case, I say serves you right.

But personally, I don't drink, so I'm kinda odd man out in this thread.

I just turned 21 in December. I never drank before that, but since turning 21 I've never once been carded. lol I was almost disappointed the first time I bought a beer. I was thinkin "Hey! Don't you want to check to see if I'm old enough?"

But I had a porter that was brewed on-site in an awesome Irish Pub in Pensacola, FL. That was amazing. I heard the stout pretty much had the consistency of mud.

I haven't tried too many kinds of beer yet, but my general impression is the lighter and or cheaper the beer is, the less I like it. I do like Blue Moon though. But I payed 4 bux for one last night. >.<

I only said no minors of ambiguous legal purposes, and any possible ramifications of the ToS. But that aside, looking back, I think the place I buy from switched where they stock the two. I didn't pay attention, grabbed a six pack from the same spot I always do, paid, and walked out. No thought involved.

Pfff.

If the internet was concerned with legal purposes, it would've imploded upon itself long before Al Gore claimed to invent it.

Tell that to the kids who get thrown in juvi because they posted a youtube of them curbstomping a minority.

Okay, um, that's the biggest load of horse shit this side of the ending to the Chronicles of Narnia series I've ever heard.

There's a distinct difference between a bunch of pics on Myspace with 18- and 19-year olds getting their drink on with their friends and a couple of douche bags who upload videos of an old fashioned curb stomping.

Unless you're implying that curb stomping is the direct result of all cases of underage drinking. If that's the case, then, well, I retract my statements and apologize.

Let's try and keep this thread on topic shall we?

Scotch. Yes or no?

Nope. Give me Jack Daniels any day. If not that, then some straight Budwieser or Budlight. Give me a six pack and I am good to go.

I never said curb stomping had anything to do with drinking. I was simply bringing up examples of the internet being used as evidence against minors in court. The entire point of me saying what I did was to protect Althanas from even the most remote possibility of legal action, for whatever purpose. Kindly do not insult me for attempting to protect this site from potential trouble.

Anyways.

I have to be in the right mood for scotch; it's not something I just up and decide to drink. But new guy, ugh. Budweiser is possibly one of the worst beers ever made. Guiness, baby; now that's where it's at. Sam Adams is another favorite.

I find it funny that nobody noticed that everybody misspelled Heineken in this thread so far. Then again, it is a thread about young people and drinking, so it's only natural to expect spelling mistakes. ;) Me, I don't drink. Most alcoholic drinks taste like shit anyways.

I feel I must echo the earlier comment by Bloodrose to keep this thread on track. No more mention of what may have transpired earlier. And while I appreciate Shadowed's efforts to keep Althanas safe (because his argument does make sense,) the government would be hard pressed to try prosecute anyone for alcohol use mentioned on a forum. One would need to consider different state laws (I know a few that allow supervised drinking in front of guardians) as well as to prove that the drinks were consumed in their country (as every nation seems to have different legal ages).

That said...

I drink infrequently, but it is always a good bottle of red wine. After two glasses, I'm as mellow as can be.

And remember, there's inexpensive wine, and then there's cheap wine. Know the difference, please!

I personally don't drink, but I know people who do...and seriously, it smells awful. Why consume something when the smell of it makes me retch?

Certain kinds of alcohol smell bad, yes. Those are what I refer to as 'college drinks' - because usually, they're simply a cheap way to get drunk. Budweiser is like that; it smells horrible, tastes horrible, but it goes down pretty easy and gets you drunk. Certain alcohols, like vodka or rum, simply have that strong ethanol smell. You get used to it after a while, really. And, again, there are a lot of very fragrant drinks. Getting some good wine might change your opinion on that one.

I prefer Dos Equis (Lager) when I drink beer, but I'm more of a shots kinda guy when I want to get drunk. I'll probably get crap for saying this but I love shots of 99 Bananas. Burns like you're drinking banana-flavored runts on fire and the type of drunk is just hilariously entertaining.

Other than that I like cocktails and whatnot. Sailor Jerry's Spiced Rum and Coke or something like vanilla-flavored vodka and cream soda. Sometimes with a scoop of icecream. Think that tastes gross? Impossible!

I love mixing my own drinks. I'll put random combinations of everything together. But what I truly love is jagerbombs; nothing really kicks like a jagerbomb.

Do you like to eat or drink anything that smells bad at all?

I like beer. And rum and tequila and vodka and everything except whiskey. Generally though, I stick to beer. I like to drink Canadian-made stuff or imported, I don't like much American beer.

When I was a younger lass, I loved my whiskey, particularly with Pepsi or in a whiskey sour. Also, apple schnapps, Irish cream liqueur (a la Bailey's) in coffee (iced or hot), and a good gin & tonic. I always hated vodka because it tastes just like lighter fluid smells, and nothing can cover it up sufficiently. Guinness is just plain undrinkable for me, despite my Irish heritage, but then again I dislike all beers completely. Wine is also largely unpalatable, though a good Asian plum wine can be a nice addition to a lovely dinner out.

Those are good, but energy drinks make my poop funny. Bummer.

Budweiser gets you drunk? Young people today just have no stamina...

Anyway, Pints of decent Bitter (things like Summer Lightning or Double Drop), Single Malts (18 year Highland Park or a couple of the Islay varieties for preference), G+Ts, Pims and Lemonades, Tokyo Blue Ice Teas and B52s would be my drinks of choice.

While I was at uni we created something... it involved a pint glass. You'd half fill it with undiluted Orange Lemon and Pineapple flavoured Juicee (T'is a really cheap squash/cordial/whatever else you call that kind of thing) and then fill the rest of the glass with equal measures of: Vodka, Gin, Baccardi, White Rum, Crap Whiskey and Tequila. Tasted and smelled simply awful... but gets you drunk very quickly, and the campus shop always had good deal on spirits so it was actually cheaper to have two of them before you went to the pub.

I drink heavily. Everything posted in this thread so far sounds scrumptious.

From the practical experience of a Student who used to live on the halls of residence, students will drink ANYTHING they can get their hands on to try to get drunk.

Methylated spirits were BANNED at the HoR because of cases of kids being rushed to the hospital MORE THAN 3 times in ONE week.

Thats O-Week for you.
_____________

I'm a student, yes, the others get drunk on whatever is the cheapest per % multiplied by the volume... I can't stand cheap vodka, beer and most wines, so I'm quite restricted.

Mid range Bourbon (expensive is best) is good, and doesn't sting the eyes so much when mixed with various soft drinks, my preference is L&P which is sweet, Lemon and mineral water type flavour. Tasty :)

Don't get drunk off it though, I'm not a good drunk, so I avoid getting drunk.

I've tried Guinness and would buy it in shots (to go with meals, definitely an interesting effect) but don't like it enough to drink a whole glass.

What else in the world should I try next?

I enjoy a drink or two, or more given the right circumstances. What I do not enjoy is how excited some people are about drinking... I would like to say it's largely the just-underage and just-turned-21 crowd, but some people don't grow out of it.

A thirty-something cheering about how much he drank last night like a dazed fratboy is a sad sight indeed.

With that out of the way, I enjoy white wine, whiskey sours, and hard cider. Not the most "hardcore" stuff to drink, but also unlikely to be subject to open mockery by those who disdain "girly drinks"

It's the difference between drinking and getting drunk. I enjoy both, though I'm steadily moving towards an appreciation for drinking what I prefer, not what gets me trashed. And, Fotiadis, try this: A Bad Apple. Half cider, half guinness. Cider on bottom, guinness on top. It's got an incredibly smooth taste, goes great with food, and has a decent kick to boot. It's fast becoming my favorite.

Giness

A pint of Guiness with a double gin... oh wait, you don't like Guiness do you?

Errmm Turbo Shandies? Half a pint of cider and a smirnoff ice in a shot glass :D

Beer sucks. Cider is good, Magners or Bulmers for me.

Spirits are ok (vodka especially) but I don't drink to get drunk, and I get drunk on spirits veeeerrrry quickly...
