View Full Version : Asking for help

Letho

Yes, this is me asking you, the good people of Althanas, for help. See, I'm stuck. I have plans for Letho, a clear vision of where I want him to be and what I want to write about him. The problem is getting there. I've been trying to write a solo that would move his story from the point where he is now to the point where I want him to be and I came to realize something I've been afraid of for a while now; I suck at solos. I tried and tried and wound up with two posts max before I'd just scrap them and start over again. Well, I finally got fed up with the stagnation and I decided to ask for help. But enough yammering. Here's the deal.

I want to write a story that deals with some 12-odd years of Letho's life, from the age he currently is (27) to the age of about forty. Writing it as something out of history books, however, is downright boring. So my idea is sort of a retrospective. The thread will occur at the time Letho is already 40 and the participants will reflect back on the knowledge they have of Letho. Yes, I know this is selfish of me to ask, because the thread will revolve around Letho's story, but I can't do this on my own. I'm also willing to offer up to a 1000 GP per participant (I need two) for helping me out with this endeavor. If your character met Letho at some point, then you'd have to write with a future version of him/her. If not, at least there would be no complications there as, due to liquid time, your present can be Letho's future.

The story in the nutshell consists of three parts. The first part, which will be told by a young lass by the name of Lorelei and which I'll control, deals with Letho's time as the Corone Marshal, his time with the Rangers and Myrhia's death. The second part deals with his quest to resurrect her, his conflict with the clergy which fail to revive her, and ultimately his murder of one of the head honchos because the failure of their false gods. The third part takes Letho down an even darker path as he joins the necromancers in an effort to bring Myrhia back to life. He ends up killing a bunch of necromancers because they can't give him what he wants. What I need you for is to help me with the other two parts. I was thinking that your characters would be hired to take Letho down by the aforementioned parties (the clergy and the necromancers).

Well, I certainly made that more complicated than it really is. In reality, the three protagonists of the quest will wind up on the Island of Tempus, where Time Mages (Letho's next target) reside. There they will meet one of the mages that would serve as their guide through the magical land and they'll tell him the story as they go. I figure the easiest way to do this is via journal excerpts of sorts. We start with an excerpt from the earliest days, while Letho was still good and then move on to the gory parts. In truth, all I'm really asking you is to each provide with a single excerpt that would deal with a particular part of Letho's story and play the rest of the interaction as usual. I'll provide the backbone of each story, but you'll be free to play with the details any way you desire. At the very end, Letho himself will appear, probably kill the mage and try to kill the lot of you.

Yeah, that still sounds confusing. Well, if anyone actually went through all that crap and is actually interested, register here or PM me. I would like somebody who doesn't like Letho very much (or just authority figures in general) and somebody who doesn't care much one way or the other, but beggars can't be choosers and I'd settle for anyone. If more than two register here, I'd select the most appropriate, so this isn't first come-first served.

Also, a note to those I'm in a thread with (namely Lakin and Unfulfilled). This is not me abandoning the threads. It's just that I'll have a lot of time on my hands this following week and I'll be able to juggle this one as well. And I know I owe each of you a post.

Shit, that was a long recruitment post.

I'm interested, Letho. That is, if you'll have me. I know Eric's not the most appropriate character for this type of quest, so I also have three others; a rapist, an angelic brawler and a Draconian. Up to you.

well i am interested, Max doesnt do well with authority figures, and he is a mercenary.

so it all works out and matchs up, although the only thing i foresee being a problem is letho is level 12 Max is level 0, easy kill for you.

Damnit, I want to do this but I don't really have an appropriate character for it. *shakes fist*

Aw man... I know the perfect character for an interesting twist here, but ... Well, you know who I'm talking about, Letho. Dammit...

You know I'm good stuff, so I'm throwing my hat into this as well. I got a couple characters who would fit the bill pretty well, including this one.

Allright Fareron definetly does not like authority figures, he was originally thinking of studying as a necromancer so this could be a good reason for him to join. Only problem is my character is not that strong...

YOU BIG JERK! *Grabs the zantetsuken and swings for your head* HOW DARE YOU NOT COME TO ME!

I have wished, prayed for chances to be with you again, and this sounds like the perfect chance...besides. Karel needs to learn his time magic somewhere...

Though just a starter character, through the use of tarot cards my character is able to see glimpses of the past/present/future. I see that you've already got a lot of interested people, but if you wish I could also help you out. For example, you could come to me with a certain question about your past (maybe not 'how' questions but 'why' questions?) which I'll try to answer. When I pass on the hints I get you complete the story with your own knowledge of the past.

Let me know if you're interested.

Thank you all for responding. No worries, I haven't forgotten about this or changed my mind or anything. I'm just torn between two options; writing with people who know Letho (namely Seth and Karel) and those who don't. Both options have their advantages and disadvantages, but since the story would be somewhat different depending on the choice, I need to make the right one. Sorry for the hold up.

Tch, why bother waiting to make the right choice? Ultimately you'll still die by my hands...

Once again, thanks all for your interest. I decided to go with the people Letho knows for story purposes, so it's Dissinger and Zantetsuken who get to earn the 1000 GP. On the bright side, once I get this one out of the way, I'll probably start a series of quests with Letho so I'll be able to write with all the people I never wrote with. And possibly some I wrote with as well. :P

Until next time.

Hey Letho, how about I throw my villain into the mix? Lorenor's never met Letho in the past, but it would be interesting nonetheless since I have future events planned...contact me on AIM dude.

Izvilvin would have been perfect for this for multiple reasons, too bad I missed out on the recruitment. Maybe he can come in for a little guest spot of two or three posts, a little cameo or something.

Also in case it's at all interesting to you, Luc will have the power to resurrect people in the future, at great cost to himself. Could be something for us to work with someday, you never know.

On this note:

While I know very little about you Letho, I have a slight understanding that you're character is into this whole "law" deal and defends Corone or whatnot. I would be honored to at one point in time have a thread with you and Althanas King of Thieves. Just throwin' that out there.

That would certainly be an interesting confrontation. Give me some time to conclude this segment of his story and get several things out of the way. I got him wrapped up in this rather lengthy yarn and I never really unwound it until now. Once I do (once this quest is done), I hope to see Letho back in more "regular" rping. I'd love to do a quest with you then. I'd love to do a quest with a whole bunch of you folk, especially those I never wrote with before. But as I said, for now, until next time.
