View Full Version : Some sort of novelty battle...

Being involved in a few quests at the moment, (though only one with this character) I would like to have a battle with somone as a sort of stress relief. I'd quite lke to get through it quickly (a month at the most) so more than once a week posting would be appreciated. Also, I'd prefer a low-level opponent as I'd like a fighting chance of survival (!)

I also don't want this to be a standard A-hits-B-hits-A etc. battle. I'd like some sort of random twist to make the event more interesting and fun to devise. This could be an interesting arena or environmental effect or audience participation (in the form of this thread allowing 'members of the audience' (other Rpers) to post single posts with their characters in the audience (cameos, if you will) as the main battlers get thrown into the crowd. I have a few ideas rolling around but I'd like some input from the Althanian public. I heard something about Mechs somewhere which could be cool...maybe giant versions of your own character, telepathically controlled by the fighters.

Anyway, any and all ideas welcome and I look forward to an entertaining battle.

Well...

As for Interesting arenas, it could be the inside of a massive engine, like my Ordo Iuris arena, which is infact the elemental plane of law. Alternatively, you could do something like battle inside a living arena, such as the belly of a whale.

For environmental effects, you could have distorted twisted space. Though I admit it's difficult to accuratly describe, when space itself is twisted and distorted, it becomes more of a puzzle. That is, you realize you can't attack straight ahead, because everything bends with the Time/Space Continuum. So eventually you might discover a jab to your right, attacks on his left, at least while you both stand in one spot.
Or you could have something else, like a deathly fog that deals damage to whatever it touches.

Audience participation....

Your fighting in a large brawl, and while you two have your own area, occasionally another fight wanders across your path.

Or, your fighting in multiple linked arenas, and in the process of fighting in your own, you occasionally jump into other arenas. This effect can be enhanced by linking to other currently active citadel threads to indicate what arena your jumping to, and actually using that arena and it's fighters as Audience Participation. It would help to have the originators permission. Such posts should be mirrored in both threads. That is, the exact same set of posts in your battle thread, and there's.

I think the audience participation thing would be fairly amusing. A gladiatorial contest where members of the audience occasionally throw in things to mess with the participants... Ah, it would be terrific...

Yeah, audience participation could be cool, though hard to pull off well. Either PC or NPC audence could be used Isuppose. The only problem with a PC audience would be that you would have lots of one or two post 'cameos' which would make it damn near impossible to judge properly. So an NPC audience would work better. That might be fun...

While cool arenas are good, they do seem to be what a lot of people do, and I was looking for something a little different. However, I like the idea of it taking place inside a giant engine. Lots of hazards there.

Would either of you be interested in working on this and joining a battle?

(Xos, different account, same OOC person)

I'd be happy to help you. Maybe a non-canon battle would help clear the mammoth writer's block mucking up the path. A return to Ordo Iuris sounds about right.

Yeah, that sounds good. Do you want to start it as you know more about the arena? If not let me know and I'll happily start it.

Hmm? Oh, I'll start it. In making Ordo Iuris, I was inspired by D&D's Mechanus, but evolved it to more than a massive ton of gears. I looked at car engines, factory assembly lines, the inside of computers, the works. It's only a danger because we're the anomally there. If you work with the system, you couldn't be safer if you were a bar of gold in Fort Knox.

Want a twist in your battle? Here are some ideas:

- At the beginning of the battle or half way through your bodies get changed (ie: player A now has B's body, skills and powers and vice versa).
- Some NPC's are involved in the fight as well (like 2 or more rival teams/gangs) which serve to spice up the battle by being killed.
- Different setups: 2/3 weak vs 1 powerful, 1 weak vs 1 handicapped powerful (no weapons, only 1 arm, drugged, etc).
- In the end you both agree that it is not nice to bash someone's skull and you instead start hugging trees.
- Use pets (pets as in big bad bears, mad magical mouses and demolition donkeys).
- Use lots of drugs and/or alcohol before or during the fight.
- Fight each other in a collapsing buidling, war, shopping mall, at a graveyard with restless corpses or in a town where the local sheriff is hunting both of you.
