We've thrown around this idea before, but I was wondering how many people would seriously show up to an Althanas Convention? If you would come, where do you think the best place for it would be? What about the duration? What sorts of events would you like to see?

Honestly though, I'd go if I could, time and money are always an issue though. This year I'm in a fast tracked college course, so I go straight through the summer without stopping.

I think if one were to be had it should be run like a normal convention. XD Where we take over an entire hotel, have all night video game parties, including DDR, maybe some table top roleplaying going on if you're into that. I dunno... I have an Althanas convention everytime I hang out with Z-Man at his house. :p

It doesn't seem fair, does it? Driving from us to you, I can get across the border in five, six minutes. Getting back into the US, though? Oy. I sat in traffic in some dinky little town for close to an hour and a half. The line was moving slow enough that you could get out of the car and wander the shops and still catch up with your car ages and ages before the checkpoint. Only delay I ever saw getting into Canada was by some genius who told the border guys on the Rainbow Bridge that he had a gun in his glove-box. -_-

On the topic of the thread, though, I have to say I wouldn't really be all that interested at this time unless it was in DC or closer, as a) I am broke b) every time I think about going to something like this the people I know and would like to meet never show and the people who I don't know are the ones who do show. The last thing I would want to do is wind up driving somewhere expecting to meet someone I actually interact with and meeting, instead, someone like "animekid990975" and so forth.

Well instead of having a specifically Althanas convention, a better idea might be to meet at an existing convention that people would have other reasons to already be at. My suggestion in this case is Dragon*con in Atlanta, Georgia, but that may simply be because I'm on the tech ops staff. This is the largest multi-genre sci-fi/fantasy convention in the states and it's held every year over Labor Day weekend in September. Check out www.dragoncon.org --- and of course give me a heads up if you think you're gonna show up so we can organize where to meet. If enough people are going to show up and I have enough warning, I can even get us a meeting room!

Think about what goes on at a comicon, they invite authors who tell you about what they do how they do it and where they want to head. So I figure we'd pick a few of the more prominent writers, known for the good stuff like Letho or Findlefin, and have them talk about what makes them more successful than normal guys.

It would also be a chance to air out some things in your word, and have discussions about policy changes that people want to put forth.

Then there's the cool ass parties you could throw, have a game room or even a small internet lounge (like 5 computers tops) for browsing, if you feel the need.

You drink you party you might get a cute girl's number, and call it a con.

Fewer at any given location than would be necessary to really call it anything Althanas-related. It would basically be a few friends meeting up, many of whom already know eachother.

If I did go to one of these, I wouldn't travel more than a state over, so somewhere in Georgia/Texas is good for me. Also, just because half the people will get drunk doesn't mean the others won't have anything to do. I imagine it'll end up with the smashed group ragging on the sober group until they just split up, though.

I would either go to laugh at the hijinx or watch and point and laugh from a safe distance to avoid arrest.

I don't quite like the idea of a few people from the same area getting together to talk to other groups in different areas via webcam. That would mean I have to hang out with Dan.

Ouch, Empy, I don't think Dan would be that bad. He actually seems like a pretty interesting, fun guy...if only a little alcoholic.
