View Full Version : Well then, you're in quite a pickle, huh?

Yeah, although I have stated that I don't have time to do anything substantial here, my mind keeps thinking up stuff. And one of those things -- sadly -- is another character. Basically, I've been replaying FFIX and I've become inspired to write a dragon knight somewhat modeled after Freya, possibly my favorite of the PCs.

So the question is... Should I try to make this character and see where it goes, or just keep posting OOC and leave it on the backburner, with the possibility that nothing would come of it?

the point of this site is to write stuff. If your not writing anything and only doing OOC stuff, than maybe, just maybe, you got a problem that needs to be addressed.

You've just lost points with me for having no sympathy to the fact that LIFE HAPPENS and not answering my question...

In my experience ideas based on games I'm currently playing don't really go anywhere in the long run, and I lose interest after I finish the game and move on to new ones. Try to make a blend of a few different inspiring sources.

To be fair, in a way he did. He merely said it in a rather confrontational way. He's suggesting not working on a new character if you don't even have time to role play the old ones you have.

Cyrus has it right. If your inspiration is from a game, and not some true sense of who the character is, you probably aren't going to get far anyway. Leave it on the back burner until the character has the sort of voice and personality that insists otherwise.

Inspiration from games with great characters is not a bad thing. Plus, Freya was awesome. However, kinda like Cyrus, my game-inspired characters were kinda one-trick wonders and were not anything you'd remember.

I can freely admit that one of my characters in particular was inspired from an anime, while not a videogame it is basically the same thing you're talking about. While I admit that any character that isn't well thought out tends to be a one move wonder a nd die rather quickly, mine did not. Possibly because when I become inspired by something, I take the idea and run with it, changing it so much it is no longer even close the original inspiration and has actually become my own.

So, if you want to try and go for it, why not? Just play with the idea though, build on it until it's no longer a rip-off of FF and something from you.

If you're wondering which character I'm referring too, Ira Shinkara was inspired by the anime Bleach.

Give it some time. Don't write it yet, and if in, say, a week after you finish the game, it still sounds like a good idea, go for it.

Ironically my character is somewhat influenced by Final Fantasy 9 as well, hints of Zidane, and obviously, the theatre troupe's name and the play they're playing.

I reckon, if you can merely take fragments of an idea, and make it anew, then it shouldn't be a problem. Don't make it the cliched Dragoon, add your own twist with Althamas' lore and it should come out fine, more importantly, don't rush it.
