View Full Version : Inpu

Inpu

Name: Inpu
Age: Appears about 30
Race: Human
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Brown
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 215 lbs.
Occupation: Gatekeeper; currently, drifter

Personality: Dark, serious, cynical, blunt, and threatening. If you run into this guy at a bar, he isn’t the life of the party. He won’t be buying rounds for the entire place. He isn’t a funny drunk, nor is he a happy drunk, nor is he even a belligerent drunk. He’s most likely to be the guy alone at the far end of the bar, completely sober and willing to teach a lesson to the first person who looks at him the wrong way. Of course, you’re probably not finding him in a place like that anyway. No worries, right?

Don’t blame him; it comes with the occupation.

Appearance: Inpu is a big man. Standing taller than most, he’s a well-built rock of a man. From each of his earlobes hangs a small, golden, ankh-shaped earring. His usual clothing, while foreign to Althanas, is nonetheless nondescript: it consists of loose-fitting robes of beige or white along with sandals, well-suited for hot climates.

History:

Once upon a time, Inpu was a powerful man.

Once upon a time, Inpu decided the fate of all men.

That time, however, has come and gone. Now, Inpu resided in this foreign world, bereft of all but the most limited vestiges of his power. His physique; yes, he kept that. His skill with the staff, though greatly diminished, was nevertheless still above average, and oddly he retained the ability to transform it into a serpent. Everything else, however, was but a memory.

The man was a foreigner, an outcast. He had no tie to this society, no relationship with its people. The average passerby cast one brief look at his alien garb and thereafter viewed him with cold, prejudiced eyes.

How he yearned to go back to what once was. He yearned to be himself – not this shadow, but himself – and to wield the power he once took for granted. The odds were grim, this much he knew. Still, he clung to the hope that he could be restored to the glory that was his…

…once upon a time.

Skills:

An Eye for the Truth: Perhaps it’s a byproduct of his job. Inpu has the ability to see through most lies, and only the craftiest of deceivers are able to fool him.

Weaponry: Staff A staff’s killing power is limited, but is an effective defensive weapon. Inpu wields it to disarm and incapacitate his foe. As of now, Inpu is above average in its use, able to handle poorly trained fighters relatively easily while struggling against more worthy adversaries. And when the big man needs something a little more deadly… that’s when the next ability is tapped.

Snake Charmer: Inpu can turn his staff into a cobra, venomous enough to bring death to a human in short order. He can turn the cobra back into his staff as well; alternatively, the cobra will revert to its wooden form if killed or once the spell wears off (a period of about two minutes). While this is a powerful ability, it clearly isn’t practical in every scenario: the transformation takes several seconds, and casting the spell at the wrong time can leave him without a weapon when he needs one most. In addition, while changing Wadjet's staff from snake to wood is always within Inpu's abilities, he only seems to be able to turn the staff into a cobra once or twice a day.
It should be noted that Inpu can’t freely turn any stick into a snake or vice versa. Only his staff is able to change.

Equipment:

The Staff of Wadjet: Inpu’s staff. It is a jet-black staff similar in strength, weight and durability to oak. As previously mentioned, Inpu has the ability to turn it into a cobra at will.

Notes

Atzar here. It took awhile, but here’s my attempt at reentry.

Alright, the profile has been left vague on purpose. If you use your head, I’m sure you can make an accurate guess as to who he is right now, but I intend to fill in more and more pieces of the puzzle as I get deeper into his story. Don’t worry, this should be good.

Let me know if you have any questions or problems, I’d love to talk about the character with anybody interested.

Hey Atzar, nice to see you're return. I need however some kind of gauge on the staff use. You know how that usually goes.

2) The cobra thing is a bit over the top. I understand that it leaves him vulnerable but I need some kind of limiting factor on the cobra, lest you just use it as an assassin's tool and cack people in their sleep.

Fair enough. For the first item, Inpu is now termed 'above average', able to handle poorly-trained combatants but struggling against stronger foes.

For the second item, I limited the spell to twice a day and lowered the duration to two minutes. Still, I made the limitation more to avoid argument than out of agreement - while he could potentially go on a killing spree as you say, so could anybody with a sharp object. Also, the snake still has to bite a man for its venom to take effect. It's not like the spell would be instadeath for everybody in the vicinity.

Still, I made the change as requested.
