View Full Version : Supernatural Heroes Lost
No, this isn't another recruitment thread for some quest that mistakenly posted in the wrong subforum. This is a thread about TV shows, and not just those from the title.
So I was wondering, any fans of some TV shows here on Althanas? Is there something you follow faithfully, something you wouldn't miss for the world, or just something you enjoy to watch for the fun of it? Are you a die-hard fan or just an occasional one?
One of the reasons I made this thread is because I recently finished watching the fifth season of Lost (one of the reasons why I haven't been posting in an overly timely manner, the other being working overtime). Now, I'm not a huge Lost fan. I'm not the kind of a viewer that, while watching some episode in the fourth season, notices a subtle reference to something in like season one. But I do like this show. It takes you on quite a rollercoaster and always leaves you with more questions than answers. Because of this, it's rather hard for me to get back into the Lost groove, but after an episode or three, you fall right back into the story. Anyways, I love lost, but not as much as...
Heroes. Any Heroes fans out there? I fucking love Heroes. Admittedly, the quality of the story seems to degrade a bit with each season (though not nearly as much as it does in the third show from the title), but it's still an awesome show. I can watch Heroes anytime, anywhere and never get bored.
And there's Supernatural. Now, Supernatural blew me away in the first two seasons. They basically took every myth, legend and old wives tale and turned it into something the protagonists had to fight. And it worked. But then they started to complicate things (a natural process, I guess) and then the show wasn't so fun anymore. I mean, don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed watching the last season, all the way to the cliffhanger end, but it's just not the same it was before. But I guess there are only so many monsters you can kill before you start repeating yourself.
Anyways, those three are my favorites. Anybody a fan of those? Or maybe you prefer something else? Or maybe you simply think that there are no quality shows on the tube anymore?
Loved Supernatural. They should've nixed the Angels & Demons crap and tried not to cater to a teenage girl audience and it'd probably still be as good as the first two seasons. I agree that they convoluted it.
I watch a lot of TV, much more than you would think. I'm a huge fan of most of the things on prime time FX (Rescue Me, The Riches, Always Sunny in Philidelphia, The Shield, etc.), and I also tune into a lot of other stuff.
Fringe, Breaking Bad, Burn Notice, Dexter, and The Venture Brothers are probably the shows I'd do anything to follow right now.
The Venture Brothers is one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. I mean, the episodes are stand-alone half the time, but there's also this hugely complex story underneath it all.
Also, The Monarch is incredible.

I tried the first season of Heroes and I got turned off pretty quick. Lost is something I'd be interested in watching, but don't want to invest the time into several seasons.
Definitely a fan of Comedy Central during the evenings. Re-runs of Scrubs, Futurama, and then a dose of the Daily Show and Colbert Report. I love it.
I hope we have some Frisky Dingo fans here, though. I like to call it Lost Wages.

Dexter is fun. Watch Hell's Kitchen with my roommate. They are both HUGE 24 fans, but I try not to get sucked up into it.
Been watching a lot of anime recently, trying to keep up with current events, and then of course, watching my old favorites when I was a kid.
I hope we have some Frisky Dingo fans here, though. I like to call it Lost Wages.

Ever since I saw that, I couldn't stop loving the show.

Man I would hate to derail this thread and start anime discussion, but I fucking love Gundam 00. Got a little wild at the end, but overall the animation, the Gundams, and the characters were just a blast to watch.
EDIT: BARNABY JONES! Everybody say hello to my new best friend, Barnaby Jones.
My cat is named in honor of that show. Frisky Dingo, that is.

Supernatural Heroes Lost would be an awesome name for a show.
To be honest, I watch about 20 shows regularly. I just love them all. They grip their little tendrils around me and I just need to know what happens to the characters. I guess it's sort of like Althanas.
I do like Lost and I do notice the subtle references to previous seasons and I am very excited for the next season where they surely won't give us any more questions. As for Heroes, I like that as well, particuarly because of my lack of discerning ability towards storyline.

I like how your first post in like a year is to announce your hardon for Lost, Kade. Totally your style.
Another awesome show: Weeds. I haven't finished the 4th season, but I love those characters. Kinda reminds me of GTA's style of storytelling, just less killing and violence.
Loved Supernatural. They should've nixed the Angels & Demons crap and tried not to cater to a teenage girl audience and it'd probably still be as good as the first two seasons. I agree that they convoluted it.My problem isn't so much with the fact that they went for the Angels/Demons crap, but that they did it rather poorly. Except Castiel, who was pretty fucking cool, everything else seemed pretty bland, and the whole breaking of seals just didn't have the impact it should. Especially the last one.
I love it.Yeah, Lost is really one of those shows that isn't worth watching unless you're in for the long haul. Because after the first season, you're pretty much left with all these mysteries and no answers whatsoever.
Love the Scrubs and Futurama as well, though I feel that Futurama, like a lot of shows, gradually started to lose quality as you moved on towards the newer episodes. Still, pretty damn good.
They are both HUGE 24 fans, but I try not to get sucked up into it. Shit, forgot 24. I'm not a huge fan, though, and I haven't even watched all seasons. But I did see the latest two and it fucking rocks. But it would just take too much time for me to watch it from season one so I decided not to and just move on from what I've seen.
I do like Lost and I do notice the subtle references to previous seasons and I am very excited for the next season where they surely won't give us any more questions. As for Heroes, I like that as well, particuarly because of my lack of discerning ability towards storyline. My sister is like that. She's like "Did you notice something something something which is connected to something something else" and all I really notice is how hot Kate's ass is. :P
Also, any Prison Break fans? The first season was awesome, the second wasn't and the third I didn't even bother to finish.

The Futurama movies they've been putting out in the last year or so have been really enjoyable though.

Thanks for noticing.
The Futurama movies are good, much better than the Family Guy one with Stewie.

Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job? Am I alone in liking it here? Probably, it usually is that way. It's...one of those shows that functions more like an infection than a regular show. At first you hate it, like I did, then it sort of grows inside your head and you can't get enough.
It's hilarious, though. Often for the same reasons that it's terrifying. And they have exactly the right tone of satire when it comes to weird, suburban culture and bad TV.
Okay, not a show easily explained...why don't you take a look for yourself. I mean, this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmIaVtn9nAg) is relatively straightforward. Bizarre, but not beyond the realm of usual sketch comedy stuff, necessarily. This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZrvzdPV3Ms) is getting a little weird. Then we come to this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShYZEHWiKR0), which is fascinating in that it is terrifying.
I guess my point is: watch Tim and Eric. You might not regret it? I didn't.
Also been rocking The Mighty Boosh a lot, but before it started airing stateside. Yeah, that's how I roll. Would that I had some sunglasses to slide on and a convertible to ride away in, as a visual metaphor for how cool I think I am.
PS - Nearly forgot; The Simpsons, seasons 3-10. Them's the good ones. Thank god for the DVD sets. Do you have any idea how much stuff was cut from the broadcast version of Who Shot Mr. Burns Part II? A whoooole lot, damn. I felt so deprived, having not seen that stuff for the better part of ten years. Strange but true.
I'd say it's more a parasite than an infection, seeing as you seem compelled to spread it to new hosts. I'm not going to be able to talk to my mother without that last one filling my head. But, I'm still going to check out the show if I happen to be home when it's on. And so, the plague spreads.... and I still haven't the foggiest idea if I like it or not.
I haven't seen Lost or Heroes, though I would like to. I've seen a couple episodes of Supernatural when visiting my parents. I'll probably get the DVD collection of it someday. Funny thing is that my dad is a real fan of it, even though he actually doesn't understand some of the plot elements in the latest season. No, he's not so old that it's that kind of issue. This is just the first time he's taken an interest in anything of this genre, so that's saying something for the show, I guess. Same thing with Halo. Not alot of interest in games, just mostly that one, and he's completed every game's campaign on Legendary alone while I'm eating needles in the first or second legendary mission. (Which may mean I suck, but yay for my dad.)
There aren't many shows I try to follow these days. I'll catch Daily Show or Colbert Report in the next day rerun, seeing as I work at night, and I'm addicted to Mythbusters. Rerun or not, I watch. Explosions never get old, nor do chicken cannons.
EDIT: It just occured to me. Tim and Eric etc reminds me somewhat of Kids In The Hall. Anyone seen that? Or is it just a Canada thing?

Man, I love Heroes.
There are only a few shows I watch religiously. I love Heroes, Chuck, South Park, Family Guy, How I Met Your Mother and 24. Note that four of them are on Monday too! Without a DVR I'd be absolutely screwed.

I lost interest in Lost around the end of the third season, I think. Sometime around then I decided they were never going to answer any of the questions and just keep introducing new characters and plot twists. I still enjoy watching it whenever I find myself in front of a screen where it's playing, but I won't go out of my way.
I watched a lot (re: all that was available) of Heroes and Supernatural last year in University. Really enjoyed both of those, Supernatural in particular. I don't think I got far enough to see the Angels/Demons bit though, whatever that is.
Saw some other good titles on here... Dexter and Weeds rock my world, yay for Showtime. Family Guy and South Park for animated shows, oh and Criminal Minds is always good, I love behavioural psychology.
My favorite show of all time, though, is NewsRadio. For those who don't know, it's a sitcom from the early 90s. It's got a great cast and great writers, always well directed. Their ensemble work and timing is impeccable, and watching this show I often notice stuff which I think other shows copied in later years (plot ideas etc). The first four seasons are dynamite, the fifth season (after Phil Hartman died) was okay, but the show wasn't really the same. Anyways, I have the first four seasons on DVD and anytime any of my friends want to watch them I shout "HELL YES!" (not actually, but I think it.)
NUMB3RS is an amazing show! Had to watch it for a statistics class and I've been hooked ever since.
On top of that: Family Guy, The Office (which I can't get enough of), It's always Sunny in Philidelphia, and Naruto, which my younger brothers turned me onto! I hate the characters but love the action. XD

Considering that they are entering the finale season next year and have begun to answer questions (of course posing new ones in the process), I have to throw anger at you for this. The first three seasons are the toughest to get through, I think, abandoning it at that stage is crazy!
Lost is one of the only shows I watch (the other being The Office). I do not leave the house on Wednesday nights during the Lost season. Such a great show. I only got into it like 9 months ago, but caught up on all the seasons the day before Season 5's premiere, was so worth it. It's definitely a different experience when you can speculate with everyone else on what the true answers are.
I've wanted to get into Dexter but hardly have the time, unfortunately.
Kate desperately must die however.
Also wtf Claire jeez.

If you don't like LOST, you're crazy. LOST is the best. Ever. Period. The End.
Although if they fuck up season 6, I will cry. Hard.
I loved The West Wing back when it was on, and I like the Mighty Boosh. Dexter's good. 24 is dumb. Never been able to get into Heroes. That is all.

There are several shows that I love to watch on Hulu, but here's one no one in this entire forum would expect to hear.
SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE!
Damn muthufuckin straight (BTW I'm straight)! That is some good stuff right there. It's not like a publicity stunt for washed out stars like Dancing With The Stars. There's actually some good quality talent there, and it's amazing some of the stuff you see. I encourage everyone to watch this week's episode. It's supposed to be hawt!
I love Lie To Me and The Mentalist. Those two are actually inspiration for my character's sister, Maelle, who is supposed to resemble a psychology genius. Heroes is a great show and I watch every single episode, but I think Max Dirks was the only one here to mention Chuck, which I love too. Sitcoms I'm not into so much. Besides Two & A Half men I'm more so into the classics than any currently airing sitcom, like Frasier (...fuck Cheers). Burn Notice and Psyche are the best two things to happen to USA, and I'll give Monk its due credit although I never liked that show. The character of Michael Westin (Burn Notice) is quite possibly the most realistic depiction of a spy to ever grace our media.
Sci-Fi has some great stuff too. I know I'm in the midst of Tolkienites and Jedi, but there is no better Sci Fi/Fantasy drama than Battlestar Galactica on television or in the movies. That series deserves WAY more credit than it is given even if everyone here thinks it's already gotten enough. Eureka is also an awesome show. Sometimes you need a lighthearted fantastical time, and that show does it for me.
Showtime has the Tudors and Californication, which are both amazing shows!
But then there's the BBC... Oh thank God for the BBC. Doctor Who, Skins, Hotel Babylon, Robin Hood, Primeval, Top Gear, Torchwood... Great Stuff!

Heroes got too complicated. The producers and writers just tried SO HARD and it shows.
UGLY BETTY.
And fuck the haters, The Hills is a classic pop culture masterpiece.
And it's so obvious it's staged - still wonderfully dramatic.
Green Porno (http://www.sundancechannel.com/greenporno/) on the Sundance Channel has very short episodes and it's hilarious. Isabella Rossellini is adorable.
I don't watch anything up to date, really, because our television doesn't receive any channels. So really, I never get to watch tv. I had the first four season of Futurama on DVD, and some Good Eats episodes. The only show I'm really crazy about is Battlestar Galactica. The last half of the last season hits DVD this week so that means I can put it on my Netflix and get to see the end of the series. :) It's bittersweet. I don't want it to end because it's such a great series, but I would be devastated if they tried to keep it running and it degraded into something awful. :( There are a couple of epis that Zook and I are convinced were written by the interns or something because they're just off but there's only been two of those so far in four seasons, so I just pretend they were a dream. :P
The first season of Dead Like Me was brilliant, but the second one sucked.

What, why no mention of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (CSI:Miami and CSI: New York as well), House, M.D., Early Edition and NUMB3RS?
Oh, wait. NUMB3RS was mentioned. Sorry. :p
Then again, I don't have a lot of options when it comes to English TV series. The selection over here is sorely limited and I don't like watching stuff from DVD. Not a whole lot, anyways, since I usually am working on the computer at the same time.
I've been hooked on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation ever since it began airing in America (what was that, like, 8 years ago? Wow.) and I've been trying to catch up on it as much as I could. Grissom was awesome. (Yes, digging for bugs in meaty wounds is cool.)
If anything, though, I have the complete 1998 version of Neon Genesis Evangelion. I've been hunting for that Anime DVD set for a while and got it for a great price. But with the new remake movies already out (waiting for the 3rd movie) I don't know how bad my wallet will be damaged... TwT
EDIT: I didn't really get into either Supernatural, Heroes or Lost. I've watched a few episodes from each of them, but wasn't impressed. Lost piqued my interest, but not that much. Probably because I wasn't going to follow it anyways.

I love Lost, got it shoved at me just as season three was coming out of those fateful "first six episodes then mad-long hiatus" bit; loved the first two seasons, watched the first six of three and went "Uhoh." But I stuck with it, and I think my patience has thus far been rewarded. I am with Sighter though - if they mess up season six I will cry.
I like Supernatural, though it is steadily falling in my list of priorities. Right now it's below Chuck and Lost. I still have yet to watch the last....eight? I think? Episodes of season 4. Have to watch 'em before season five starts.
Heroes started out so good, and then it went so very bad. Between the almost-constant attempts at retrofitting Sylar's character and the fact that Mohinder spent all of the last two seasons or so with the Idiot Ball practically gorilla-glued to his fingers kinda made me lose interest. Milo Ventimiglia is still, however, all kinds of pretty. Yes, I am shallow, what of it?
My problem with TV is that the shows I like the best are the ones that get canceled PDQ. Jericho, which I recently discovered and now adore like mad, is gone, Journeyman (which I watched faithfully since the beginning) only reached 13episodes, Firefly, of course...Miracles...the list goes on and on.
...Anyone got a show that they want canceled? ;D
I cast a Phoenix Down and revive this thread!!!
Recently, I finished watching Battlestar Galactica and the fourth season of Heroes (I guess that's volume five), and frankly I don't know which disappointed me more. I guess I'll start with BSG. Beware, there will most likely be SPOILERS ahead.
Now, I watched BSG before, when they were still airing it on the local TV networks. And it blew my fucking mind. It was science fiction, but it wasn't burdened by special effects and constant action. In fact, it focused more on the development of characters then the actual battle with the Cylons. Shame they fucked it up after season two or so. I read somewhere that the writers for BSG didn't plan too much ahead, sort of wrote ten episodes at a time and played it by ear, and I think it shows later on. The plot gets drawn out, the characters grow boring and the major twist about the identity of the "Final Five" ends up being pretty fucking bland. I feel that they could've condensed the entire show in two seasons and it would've turned out better. Also, Starbuck is probably the most annoying character in any show I ever watched. EVER. SPOILER I was so bloody happy when her Viper blew up and she was "dead". And then they bring her back a couple of episodes later and I'm not happy anymore./SPOILER
Still, even with all that, I'm still very glad to have watched and finished it. It's still a good show and you can certainly do worse in the world filled with ten different types of CIS shows.
Now, Heroes. Ah, yes, Heroes. Heroes were awesome. I'm not talking just about the first season. I didn't even mind the second and the third. In fact, I liked those very much as well. And then I watched the fourth one and I was like: "Wtf, didn't we do all of this before?". Once again, they're all doing a lot of soul searching, and fighting with the feeling of not belonging and whatnot and it's like watching season one all over again, only this time around you know where it's all heading. And I felt that the fourth season is a redundant episode in the entire story, sort of a filler that would make the show run a bit longer before the whole thing escalates and we get the Armageddon we've been hoping for since like season one. SPOILER Given the fact how season four ended, with Claire showing the world her ability, I figure it is very likely that we'll get that very thing in season five. Which only further makes the fourth season utterly pointless. Well, there's the whole Sylar turning away from the dark side, but that could've easily been integrated in previous seasons instead of making him just run around and eat brains./SPOILER
Still, I believe in Heroes. I believe that the show will redeem itself in the fifth season. Now, damnit, I want some epic fucking fights, I want some destruction, some special effects flying all over the place. I don't want to watch Peter fucking Petrelli ride the emergency van and save random people and Claire passing exams on college and Hiro saving bloody kittens. I want them to be Heroes again.
Anybody else have an opinion on these shows? How about some others? I heard the The Fringe is quite good, so I downloaded the first season to check it out. Didn't get a chance to do that just yet, though.
You're fucking old. My dad raves over Battlestar Galactica too. I still standby stargate.. that was until it got gay and tried to copy BSG with Stargate Universe.
Fucking twabblers.
I take that back, Battlestar has one good thing about it, its the entertainment equivilent of melatonin.
Also, only people with bad taste in television have faith in Kring as a writer and a visionary. If you think BSG's writing was poorly planned, you're putting stock into a guy who writes by the episode and probably does it based off of the majority of the opinion over whatever Heroes forum he frequents. I heard writing for TV shows was soulless, deppreciating work, but he definitely finds a way to set a new low every season.
Now shut up and watch Fringe, you Croat.

Battlestar Galactica - Started out amazing and started to fall off near the end, but you have to take into account the tenancies and trends of viewers like yourselves. There seems to be something every viewer forgets to ask him/herself. "Am I really bored with this television show just because it's lost its flavor, or has my inner novelty just worn out?"
Most times it's just the latter, but viewers would only admit the former. However, here's some solid evidence about Battlestar falling off. Baltar completely lost his comedic value. You know what I'm talking about; that need to laugh at him during the first half of the series with a tinge of guild in your heart. Starbuck in fact did get annoying, but she was obnoxious to begin with and that was the beauty of her character and Katie Sackoff's acting. Not every character is supposed to be appealing. Apollo seemed to have lost his balls... they're in my left hand. The fact that an entire group of cylons sided with the humans is beyond believable. I can understand a Six or Athena, little anomalies here and there, but my God an entire faction?
Despite all this we have to respect Battlestar for what it did for the overall landscape of Sci-Fi and Fantasy. This series showed us that we can have good drama and good sci fi all in one production. There is no going back for me. I can't enjoy my old Star Wars or Star Trek dvd's. I can't watch any of the old fantasy shows; hell I didn't even give Legend of The Seeker two minutes before I changed the channel. I can't even watch the most recent silver screen incarnation of Lord of The Rings. I can respect all of the above for what they did to further the popularity of Science Fiction and Fantasy, but I can no longer enjoy them. Anything after Battlestar must be able to demonstrate a good level of drama and realism or it is not acceptable. Perhaps the people working on Stargate Universe understand that, Saxon. It's just a shame that they suck at it.
Heroes - doesn't need to come back. To bring Heroes back would be fucking stupid because Kring would NEED to make Sylar bad again, or create a Villain much more powerful than him, which would take another three ratings depraved seasons to defeat. NBC is desperate for ratings right now, and Heroes isn't helping. Why would the network bring the show back? It's obvious how the story would go after the 'specials' are made public because we've all seen it for decades... X-Men. A Brave New World is a sufficient ending. Let's leave it at that and allow a cast of EXTREMELY talented actors find some good jobs elsewhere before they dig a six foot hole for their careers.
How about I add a few titles to the equation. I say to hell with the major networks. Cable's the new way to go. I'm down with The Tudors, Weeds, Brotherhood, Rescue Me, Archer, Justified, Mad Men, Californication, and last but not least Doctor Who.
The American networks could learn a lot from BBC. Instead of attempting to create a series that goes on forever and ever, they work on a gem that they usually end on their own terms within two seasons. If a show lasts longer than that there's usually a significant cast change, and then it might as well be considered a spin off. There was this amazing show on BBC called Jekyll, and it only had one season, but it was fucking amazing.
Anything after Battlestar must be able to demonstrate a good level of drama and realism or it is not acceptable.
Considering its been done before and better, I disagree. Battlestar has been around forever, even before whatever-his-name bought the rights to work on it. You say fantastic, I say old-story-is-still-old.
Also, grow some sack and say "Fuck." Frak? Really? Passed one over on the FCC there, big guy!
Perhaps the people working on Stargate Universe understand that, Saxon. It's just a shame that they suck at it.
No, they just did multiple series covering a storyline that ran for well over ten years and had a huge following. They just fucked up and ran a really successful spinoff into the ground after a great ending for the original to trade for a really stupid spinoff whose only saving grace is a doctor named Rush. Stargate was fine as it was.
How about I add a few titles to the equation. I say to hell with the major networks. Cable's the new way to go. I'm down with The Tudors, Weeds, Brotherhood, Rescue Me, Archer, Justified, Mad Men, Californication, and last but not least Doctor Who.
Let me fix that list;
Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Dexter, Burn Notice, Rescue Me, Archer, Justified, Breaking Bad, Fringe, and.. sadly.. Supernatural.
Its still my guilty pleasure.
EDIT: ..And the only reason why Doctor Who is not on that list is because the new Doctor looks like a dumbass. Though, to be honest, the only Doctor I liked from the get go was Eccleston, but they killed him off too fast.
.. And boy did David Tenant get his cock sucked with the amount of fan service he was able to give before his Doctor died. Jesus.

Too bad American and British television are completely different mediums. Seriously. The end of a 'season' means entirely different things to both cultures. One means a break and the other literally means the end of something. The british have a knack for making absolute use of their characters and then offing them, American television tries to expand by having audiences watch a character live their lives for years, and whatever happens in between is cool with us.

Considering its been done before and better, I disagree.
So someone has come along and given Science Fiction/Fantasy and Drama equal priority in the same production before and better than Battlestar? I have a few, but not nearly as commercially successful, examples in my head that have done AS good, but not better. Firefly is an example that comes to mind. What titles come to mind for you?
Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Dexter, Burn Notice, Rescue Me, Archer, Justified, Breaking Bad, Fringe, and.. sadly.. Supernatural.
I stand partially corrected. I omitted Dexter and Burn Notice out of error. But really? Supernatural? Someone please make an argument for this series; one that's convincing enough to compel me to watch the first few seasons on Netflix without pulling my hair out.
I like House.
... You would like House.

Firefly is one, and Fringe is the only other one that comes to mind right now. Either way, that's enough to break your previous argument. Go geddem!
I stand partially corrected. I omitted Dexter and Burn Notice out of error. But really? Supernatural? Someone please make an argument for this series; one that's convincing enough to compel me to watch the first few seasons on Netflix without pulling my hair out.
Because the first two seasons are the ones that are worth watching. Its what made the show. Back when Kripke was getting started, it was just two brothers roaming across America solving weird cases, and it killed. Its only up until Dean goes to Hell that the show starts to lose some of its glamour. They're in this really weird Christian mythology thing right now with trying to do an entire arc on the apocolypse. They still have their weird cases, but often times they try to tie them to this big, overarching plot. You don't have to be an atheist to think this God vs. Satan and Dean vs. Sam thing is bad television.
..Or maybe you do.
Anyway, first two seasons of Supernatural are worth watching. Fuck, you know what, if you agree to watch that, I'll get the first two seasons of Battlestar Galactica. I've only seen the occasional episode, and I do have some free time coming up after the semester before I ship. Tell me what you think of it before I leave.
Sound fair?

You got yourself a deal. I'll put Supernatural on my Netflix cue right now.

Miniseries, 1, 2, and 2.5.
As to Archer, and why it's great...
Archer: "Oh my god, you killed a hooker!"
Cyril: "Callgirl! She was a callgirl!"
Archer: "No Cyril, when they're dead, they're just hookers! "
Or...
Archer: "Cyril, c'mon. Worst case scenario, her cover got blown and Scorpio's raping her senseless before he chops her corpse up into fish food."
Also, only people with bad taste in television have faith in Kring as a writer and a visionary. Also, those who are optimistic. And I still believe we'll see a Duke Nukem game. ;)
I can understand a Six or Athena, little anomalies here and there, but my God an entire faction?I think that Baltar redeemed himself a bit in the last season, when he was like BSG's own personal Jesus Christ, what with his sect of chicks and his preaching. I thought that was funny on a different level, though not nearly as entertaining as the first two seasons. Now, Starbuck... See it didn't annoy me that much when she was a hotshot pilot who drank like a fish and fucked everything with something resembling a dick. She annoyed me when she "returned from the dead" and proved to be oh so special for no reason whatsoever other than the fact that the writers wanted to make someone be special and the the deus ex machina that would lead the humanity to salvation and whatnot. Apollo I could stomach even as a politician. He was badass as a CAG, yes, but I could still stand him if for no other reason, than to sticking it to fucking Laura Roslin every time he spoke in the Quorum. Also, The Old man rocked throughout the entire series. Period. Whoever disagrees can kiss my fraking ass. :P
Let's leave it at that and allow a cast of EXTREMELY talented actors find some good jobs elsewhere before they dig a six foot hole for their careers.Hmmm... Didn't exactly look at it that way. But now that I do, it makes sense. Yes, I would like to see one last showdown, but I guess it's questionable who and why they would be fighting. Hell, the whole Samuel as a bad guy was already stretching it in the fourth. But man, remember that one episode in the first or the second, like in the future, when Peter was dressed all in black with a scar on his face and Hiro still had his sword and they fought together? Now, that was badass.
How about I add a few titles to the equation. I say to hell with the major networks. Cable's the new way to go. I'm down with The Tudors, Weeds, Brotherhood, Rescue Me, Archer, Justified, Mad Men, Californication, and last but not least Doctor Who.Seems I'm not familiar enough with TV shows nowadays because I haven't heard about most of these. Mad Men I tried to watch, found the entire concept utterly boring, but I guess that's all a matter of personal preference. Californication I watched a few episodes, were mildly entertaining, and Doctor Who was sort of... weird. Never could really get into it. It's playing daily here, but it's just not my cup of joe.
I like HouseNow there's a surprise. I saw the first five seasons and yes, they were awesome. House rocks. It's the only medical show I could watch. That Grey's Anatomy shit almost made me puke.

..Or maybe you do.This is very true. I was a huge fan of Supernatural in the first two season, when good ole dad was still around and they all kicked major ass. Nowadays, I just watch it out of habit. The fifth season is bound to be the last one and there are like five or so episodes until the end, so I just want to see it through to the end, if for no other reason, then for the sheer awesomeness of the first two seasons.
But you should definitely watch the first two, International. It seems that every show gets fucked up after like two seasons. Except maybe Lost. I'm not a huge Lost fan, hell, I might not even be a fan, but I watched all the seasons and I plan to watch the last one as well.
Also, I heard BBC mentioned somewhere in here. Anyone watched Hustle? This is one of the rare British show I absolutely love. Well, of course, the first two (three?) seasons. For those unfamiliar with it, it's about a bunch of con artists that pull of some of the most complex cons (the long cons, as they call it) and it almost always keeps you guessing up until the end just how they pulled it off. After the third season, I think, the cast fell apart a bit, some new actors got involved. The cons were still pretty good, it's just that there was not so much chemistry between the characters like before.

I LOVED Hustle during its first cast, and I was okay with it for a while after Micky left. But yea I know what you mean, Letho. After a while so many newcomers were joining the cast that there was no familiarity there. I remember watching the DVD and the creators specifically said that the original cast was supposed to resemble a family unit with everyone playing their role. I think they lost that somewhere along the way.
You know there's a show that I've totally forgotten and I shouldn't have because I followed every episode. White Collar
BTW Saxon, Check out Battlestar Galactica Seasons 1, 2, and 2.5. Oh yea and there's the Miniseries that starts it all out. I've added Supernatural to my Netflix cue, but I can't seem to find the Miniseries.

Not always, there have been shows like The Shield that have great directors and writers that they knew when to stop and finish the show before it jumped the shark. But a majority of shows do jump the shark and usually do it because of incompetent writers and the desire to bleed a show for all its worth.
But really, Lost? I think I watched two seasons before I just wikipedia'd it for the information I wanted and left it as is. The person who writes for it either can't make up his mind or is actively trying to shove into it every possible theme and outcome into its plot before it is over.

Startgate sg-1 for the win.
It started out as a show with MacGyver travelling to different far off words and shotting people with snakes in them to a really great series. After the second season they turn up the comedy and have some very funny moments. I'm not a big fan of atlantas or universe, but I have friends who are.
Otherwise I used to watch Dexter till the black cop was killed, it seemed that they were creating too complex problems just for sake of it after that. When I get a chance I watch Burn Notice, Bones, Castle and NCIS, but none religiously. I find shows like Lost, White Collar, the other NCIS are silly. They create these elaborate problems for characters who could simply avoid them given how smart they are portrayed.
Bones: I probably only like it because my undergrad is a mixture of Antropology and Psyc, but early episodes had a lot of funny references to this tribe or that. The main characters are very well made IMO.
Castle: Nathan Fillion. nuff said. I like the tounge in cheek attitude of the show, with many of the situations simply silly. The show pretty much rides of Fillion's acting as Castle, but I think he does it quite well. The plot is quite good, with the murders slowly revealed with a plot that normally can't be guessed right at the start.
Lost:
I never really got into it. I felt that the show was needlessly slow and complex and the characters often one dimensional. I could be wrong though, I haven't watched it enough to know that for sure. I know they have a few references to people like John Locke and I think Rousseau, but I wasn't really sure if they worked it very well.
Supernatural:
I watched it at the start, then it got all weird and complex and I bailed. It may as well have been called 'X-Files 2: The Freelance years'. The basic concept has been done, it was just tweeked and two pretty boys thrown in.
Heros:
Seems like they were riding off the x-men wave and went with the 'oh I wish i was normal route'. I was not really that amazed by the story or the characters or the acting. I felt that it was really slow to start as well and I lost interest.

After a while so many newcomers were joining the cast that there was no familiarity there. I remember watching the DVD and the creators specifically said that the original cast was supposed to resemble a family unit with everyone playing their role. I think they lost that somewhere along the way.Yeah, it's like first Micky left, and then he was back, but Danny was gone, and then Stace is gone and you can actually see the entire show slowly going down the shitter. It was still watchable, but not nearly as before.
But really, Lost? I think I watched two seasons before I just wikipedia'd it for the information I wanted and left it as is. The person who writes for it either can't make up his mind or is actively trying to shove into it every possible theme and outcome into its plot before it is over. Yeah, well, as I said, not really a huge fan, but there are worse ways to pass the time. I was actually drawn into watching it by my sister who is a huge fan.
Bones: I probably only like it because my undergrad is a mixture of Antropology and Psyc, but early episodes had a lot of funny references to this tribe or that. The main characters are very well made IMO.Personally, I found Bones unrealistic, the characters uninteresting, and the entire thing just a step above the CIS crapola. But again, I guess it's a matter of personal preference.
NCIS wasn't half bad as far as CIS shows go, probably the only one I can bear to watch nowadays.

Completely unrealistic, I agree. I think I only like it because of the Antro/Psyc references. I think sometimes I find shows interesting because of the things they don't mean to show. Like for example one of CSI's main points is that there is a single truth that can be uncovered and only fail when you can't dig deep enough (and technology is the way to find that truth). The whole thing is silly, but it is an interesting peak into the psyche of the creator (and to a lesser extent the American veiwing audience).
I remember one episode the only black actor was talking about his gear and he used 'getto'ish speak when describing how neat he kept it. It was ridiculous... "I keep it tight, like my game."

Another reason why to watch Supernatural.
MAJOR SPOILERS REGARDING THE SEASON FIVE FINALE POSSIBLY AHEAD
After watching, the final episode I have to say that I'm rather disappointed. I mean, the way the whole series was going, I wasn't really expecting all that much. But for like two whole seasons the entire thing revolved around this final fight between Michael and Lucifer, the supposed good and evil, the good, bad and ugly. And instead of finishing with a real bang, with some flashy colossal battle between the two, we get some watered down family drama and a lackluster ending. It made me think that maybe the entire series should've ended when they killed Azazel.
On top of all that, it seems that this isn't actually the end of the series. Supposedly, season six which is in the works is going to revert to the format of the first two seasons, but I'm not very confident it's going to be very good. Then again, Kripke won't be at the helm anymore, so who knows?
Anybody else saw the finale? Thoughts?
Lackluster, dry and a bit boring. I think the prophet's narratation of the episode said a lot about whoever was writing this thing. Apparently endings are hard. But, I also think that he sucks at them.

Zook and I now have access to real TV. I have to say that all I ever watch is NCIS, Law and Order: SVU, and Big Bang Theory. I've only seen the first season of Lost. I liked it, and I'm not quite sure why I haven't started up the second season. We did finish up Galactica, and I cried like a baby, mostly because it was over. We tried to watch the first peek of Caprica (ha ha, I almost wrote Craprica.) but I wasn't feeling it, so we didn't continue. The Plan was wonderful.
I still watch DVDs mostly. We also have the entire series of The Prisoner on DVD, and I watch that all the time. I know it's not a current show that you can find on television, but I'm addicted anyway. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prisoner
It's just been re-imagined Manda, look up the remake staring Ian Mckellan. It's pretty good, although the original is irreplaceable!

We tried watching a little bit of the re-imagining. I enjoyed it as long as I could remind myself that it wasn't a re-make per-se. It was fun to spot all the little nods to the original series that they packed into it, but it just didn't quite keep my interest. I think Zook watched more of it than I did.

Only one more episode, then the season finale and end of Lost! Oh my! I've followed the entire thing closely, probably obsessively to a fault. But it's great. Anyone else feel like the "questions will be answered" sub-title of season six of Lost is a crock? I have more questions than I originally had to begin with, and still haven't figured out what the point of the "flash-sideways" aspect is for...
Also, I'm so deeply angry that they're not making more Heroes, from what I heard at least. I know a lot of people are saying that it was just being made because people were interested and as soon as it got too complex or over the top people would hate it and stop watching... but I want more.
I also watched all of Spartacus: Blood and Sand! That is a crazy great show. I can't wait for the second season, though I'm going to have to because the main actor has some sort of cancer (a curable one) that he's having medical attention for and can't continue the series at the moment. Anyone else watch that series?
Oh, and I watched the first season of Dollhouse recently. That has to be one of the most interestingly thought out series I've seen in a long time. SPOILER ALERT (potentially) The main bad guy in that is also the actor who plays the pilot in Firefly/Serenity (another great series).

Ooo! Wash! I sobbed for an hour when Zook made me watch Serenity and he died. D: I've also heard that the guy who plays Helo (who I have a major crush on) is in Dollhouse as well.
