Raphael

Name: Raphael "Firewater" Grantaire

Age: 18?

Race: Human

Gender: Male

Hair Color: Ashen Blonde

Eye Color: Greyish Blue

Height: 5'6"

Weight: 162 lbs.

Occupation: Pirate, Thief, Whore, Drunkard, Criminal

Appearance: Whoever said you can't tell a book by its cover was a friggin' moron, and no better example stands than Raphael "Firewater" Grantaire. A drunken stumble is the first sign that trouble is coming, when he gets up that is. His blue eyes are usually in some state of disarray, made more obvious by dark eyeliner, and the obvious smell of ale is ever present on his breath. The pirate's face is youthful, a tad androgynous except times when he lets hair grow on his face. A whisper of a mustache and beard, nothing more before he shaves.

Shaggy blonde hair stops just before the shoulder, kept back by a ragged black bandana. A worn borwn over jacket falls to the tops of his boots, the buttons to close it long fallen off. Raphael's red vest is faded, the trim long worn away by use and his "white" linen undershirt has seen better days, like when it was actually white. His green wool breeches have a few holes, but it allows for more breathing , which is needed for his rather tight black leather boots that come up mid foreleg.
To top it all off, his right hand is covered by a black leather grieve with a black wool glove underneath, the fingers trimmed off to allow for a bit more freedom.

Personality: A rather odd individual, if he were rich man one could consider him ecsentric, although if he were rich he'd probably drink himself to death. Often drunk or in the process of drinking, that horrible time of sobriety makes Raphael shudder. He's irresponsible, uneducated, and reckless, but many consider him great drinking company, because you need to be drunk to stand him. He lives by his own moral standards, which are pretty corrupt by a normal person's views. His love of theivery and lechery, drunken and extroverted acts cause many to look down their noses at him. Still, the pirate would never think of taking human life, or hurting those that don't deserve it. As much of a thrill the bad things are, without those good acts he could never live with himself.

History: Many stories circulated as to how the lad called Firewater came to be. Some say he was born on the very edge of the wine god's goblet, others say the young man came into the world with a flask in his mouth. Raphael calls these people idiots, but tolerates them if they buy him a round or two. In truth, as the lad tells it, his mother was of the human minority in Anebrilith, the great port city of the elven lands. She worked a respectable job as a maid in a grand elvish manor, and some claimed she had a little elvish in her. Most nights however, she had alot of human in her. One way or another, she ended up with six children and a different father for each. Of course, when it was time to take a little responsibility, they all disappeared, which left her in a most difficult situation. But one by one, as her children grew, they all obtained honest work. That was, except for Raphael, the youngest. He spent his days restless about town, stealing what he couldn't afford, which was pretty much everything. He almost lost his hands on several occasions, being rescued only at the last minute by older siblings paying their hard earned gold to free him. His mother had enough.

He stole for the excitement just as much as the goods he got in the end, so his mother found him work in a merchant company at the age of fourteen, hoping to quell the adventurer in him. For nearly three months he worked as the ship's cabin boy, keeping to himself for fear of how a young lad would appear to the eyes of sex starved sailors. However, fate would deal the boy a new hand, one he would take to like a fish in water. After three months, his ship was attacked by pirates. The crew put up little struggle, and the pirates allowed them into rafts with some previsions. All except young Raphael that is. While boarding a raft, the seadogs discovered the young boy was actually trying to get away with some stolen pirate loot. Amused by this, the captain offered him a life at sea, a life of stealing and adventure. Raphael jumped at the chance, and was soon under the wings of Captain Blackwood.

For three years he sailed and learned under his captain, learning how to run a ship, how to fight, and most importantly, how to drink. It was during these days the boy earned the nickname Firewater, imitating his hero Blackwood. Raphael earned a reputation in any port he visited, as the boy who could hold his liquor better than any man twice his size. He loved the thrill of pirating, and of spending his small percent on food and drink and as he got older, men and women. All the while he did learn some vauluable lessons from his mentor. Not only had he been taught self defense, as clumsy as he was at it, but also a sense of morality. That while steal was the only option for many men, that by no means gave them the right to ruin or end lives.

However, at seventeen Raphael was separated from Blackwood, and to this day he won't tell if his mentor was anything more. The captain, playing a friendly game with another pirate, lost his cabin boy in a rigged hand. Firewater was to join 'The Mad Bonnie' and its captain, his renown at drinking and trouble well known. Before he said goodbye, Blackwood gave the lad his prized sword and dagger, a gift and wishes of good luck.

A year on The Bonnie only made Raphael miss his mentor more, although no one could tell. Firewater remained the infamous lush and lecher, and was great company for all the Bonnie's crew. Until a day, nearly a year on the ship, when the justice finally caught up to the Bonnie and its men. The ship was burned and only Raphael and another crew mate managed to survive. Yet the two were captured and taken to Scara Brae, awaiting execution for their long list of plunders.

Skills:
-Natural Pickpocket: Firewater is a born thief and knows how to take something that isn't his without being noticed. He can pick out a target through a crowd and remove a few valuables from their pocket, and usually get away without being noticed. Now, anyone paying attention could usually spot him in the act, and he is by no means perfect at this. He just knows what he's doing and can get away with it if no one's watching or noticing. And this doesn't just refer to pockets. It's wise to not let him in your home or you may notice a spoon or two missing when he leaves.

-Clumsy Swordsman: Raphael has been taught how to defend himself with a rapier, as well as use his dagger if things get too messy. His swordsmanship is no where near graceful, and it's usually by luck alone that he can pull through a fight. But he can defend himself against poorly skilled fighters, anyone above that usually causes him to drunkenly stumble away.

-Lush: Raphael loves the liquor, and can handle himself with it. It takes alot to make him pass out, and makes drinking contests all the more fun.

Flaws:
-Illiterate: Firewater has never learned to read in any language. This does put a damper on reading menus or maps, but he can identify familiar words.

-Clutz: Raphael is not the most graceful creature, and seems to be able to get into more trouble with a trip than any insult he can muster.

-Lush: It's obvious, but the drink has and can get the pirate in trouble, on many occansions.

Equipment:
-Rapier, dubbed "The One Armed Whore". Originally the property of Captain Blackwood, the sword is made out of Iron. It's pretty basic and unadorned. Blackwood joked that it's named off the best tavern he'd ever been to, and also named after the best whore he'd ever had.

-Dagger, dubbed "Throatslasher." Made of Iron, it's just as plain to look at as the rapier.

-Black leather Greive on right armed.

-A single flask, usually emptied by Firewater's thirst.

-The clothes on his back.
