Real Name: Eleanore Duskeag. Goes by several pseudonyms, which include George Cuspwell and Robert Tessier.
Nickname: "Mastbean"
Age: 25
Race: Human with a touch of Dwarf
Hair Color: Deep brown
Eye Color: Hazel
Height: 5'0"
Weight: 238
Occupation: Pirate, Refugee, Prize-fighter, Freak
Appearance: A stocky man with a muscular body. Beneath Eleanore's clothing is a mess of scars from his prize-fighting days. Across the top of his scalp is a jagged scar where no hair will grow. Due to the identifying nature of this scar, he keeps a skull cap on whenever he can. His face is cragged and rough, and his complexion is a tanned red.
The pirate's choice of clothing is very simple; boots, cap, brown breeches, long-sleeved white tunic, covered by a sleeveless leather jerkin. He holds no weapons on his person, having no need for one. Eleanore has a full well-groomed beard, of which he is fond. Strands of it are wrapped with beads he has acquired during his travels.
Personality: A pragmatic, no-nonsense sort of man, Eleanore takes his pirating seriously. He almost never drinks, eats very little, and has kept watch in the crow's nest so often he is said to never sleep. The man is an individualist with a great deal of pride, and is unable to tolerate himself if he fails in an endeavor. When he takes action, it is always with a plan in mind; if the unexpected happens, he is very easy to catch off his guard.
He enjoys fighting, especially the pirate sort. That along with reading are his main hobbies.
History: Eleanore Duskeag is a fourth-generation dwarf, most of his heritage having been washed away by human blood as his family drifted away from Alerar. The boy's mother died in childbirth and he was left with his father for the first third of his life. It was a decent upbringing, being the son of a merchant in Corone. But one day while young Eleanore was playing with friends, a wizard stumbled upon them. This robed man held in his hands a basin full of swirling ichor. Unable to contain themselves, the boys threw themselves at the fellow with the pointy hat, asking what it was the wizard had.
The magician explained that what he had was water that had been cursed long ago. He wished to safely study the substance, and had been on his way to do that when he met the boys. For whatever reason, Eleanore volunteered to test the water for the wizard. Although the magician was against it, he admitted that there was no better way to understand the curse than seeing it first-hand. With his pals boyishly cheering him on, Eleanore dipped his hands in the basin, down to the elbows... and when he brought his arms out again, they had been replaced with two shining blades.
Frightened, the boy ran home before the wizard could try to help. When his father saw Eleanore's bizarre mutation, he was thrown out of the house, cursed as a monster. Rather than mar his reputation, the merchant would pretend he had no son and so Eleanore ran off into the wilderness. The boy was forced to survive in the bleakest parts of the cities of Corone, roaming from one place to the next as he adapted to life with blades for arms. It would be a long time before he learned to control those cursed arms and he accumulated a great many scars early on.
After surviving for two years on his own, Eleanore took to prize-fighting. At his age he never won a tournament bout, but earned some small sums as the "Jack of Blades", surviving by meetings of chance and skill. In this time the young man's body and mind became strong, and he might have moved on to be a great fighter one day. He even began teaching himself to read, finding books on the sly and stashing them away where he could. And then he met Captain Barkbriar.
Eleanore found himself one day enjoying a drink at a port bar, when a ship named the Mad Bonnie tethered in. Its crew were setting down for a few days, and the captain of that vessel stepped into the bar with his men just as Eleanore was settling in. Captain Barkbriar was the first person that the young man had ever seen who also had an obvious fake limb in place of his arm. Barkbriar took notice of the lad, and they spoke for a while over drinks.
A bar brawl eventually broke out and engulfed the entire tavern. Barkbriar watched as the young man held his own, knocking down clumsy drunkards without even cutting into them. Eleanore was just beginning to discover how to control his cursed limbs when Barkbriar first invited the boy to join his crew. He accepted, and was soon inducted into a life of crime and piracy. By this time, Eleanore began to use various assumed names wherever he went, and after a year had passed, his original name had disappeared entirely.
The man was a hard worker, patient and observant. He spent a great deal of his time tying the mast, lifting the sails, keeping watch in the crow's nest, to the point where the common joke about him was that he had grown roots to the mast as was becoming as 'mastbean.' So Mastbean became the most memorable of the names that were used of him at the time, despite how seriously he took the pirate life.
The sea life provided Eleanore many oppurtunities to further himself. He learned to change his arms at will after many months of practice, and began grooming his beard as soon as he had hands again. He learned and upheld the Pirate Code as faithfully as the next scoundrel aboard and respected each crewmate in-turn.
Eventually though, the Mad Bonnie would burn, as it must for justice to be upheld. In the confusion of the attack, Mastbean was thrown overboard and survived the battle before he and another crew member were hauled to Scara Brae, where they currently await their sentence in prison.
Skills: Curse: Eleanore's cursed arms can change into a melee weapon of his choosing with the consistency of iron. These weapons start at the elbow, and can be twice as long as his forearm. Examples include the axe, mace, sword and morningstar, but can be extended to include whips, a ball-on-chain, etc. He can transform each arm into a weapon twice. Each time he does so, the effect lasts for two posts. If the Curse is used up, Eleanore must wait two days IC before he may use it again, and it may be only once per arm in this case.
Literacy: After Eleanore was run out of his home, he taught himself everything he needed to survive. When he was able to survive on his own, the young man went on to satiate his curiosities; one of these being how to read. When he found extra money, he bought a book. Compared to the average person, he is fairly well-read.
Combat: Fighting in competitions for the second third of his life, Eleanore gained proficiency with melee combat. He is of average skill, but aspires to improve himself even as a pirate.
Navigation: Eleanore spent years aboard the Mad Bonnie with Barkbriar and his pirate crew. As such he is well-versed in running a ship, particularly good at reading maps and keeping watch.
Equipment: -A pair of weather-worn boots
-Thick breeches
-Sleeveless black undertunic
-White tunic (long-sleeved)
