Underwood wasn’t your average city. There wasn’t many things to do besides get into small town trouble or drink. Cruz loved the life he had in Underwood and it’s surrounding provinces, never a dull moment in his eyes. Half the time he couldn’t even remember his wild nightly escapades. Sometimes this was due to his excessive drinking and sometimes his loss of memory came from just that. Cruz suffered from a frequent loss of memory, often entangling him in awkward and confusing cituations. There was always something else lurking in the mind of Cruz, that caused him to be in an almost constant state of deja vu. But Cruz was a simple man, with an unsavory taste in women and an addiction to liquor. For these reasons Cruz often found himself ostracized from most Underwood festivals. Today was different though, Cruz was invited to a local carnival by a surprisingly dashing young woman named Valimire. Valimire had long been in the sometimes absent mind of Cruz. Although most things faded from Cruz’s short term memory, for some reason this exceptional woman always remained on his mind. He sometimes thought the feelings he felt for her were love, a foreign feeling to the hulking Cruz.

Another thing Cruz remembered was his unreal upbringing, a period he wrote in his journals as “Lab Experiment.” Cruz was originally meant to be a monster. He was created in a lab somewhere deep in Concordia to one day become the tool of mad sorcerers and inventors. Instead on his eighteenth birthday the strange sorcerers began working on a new project that was supposed to be the perfected version of Cruz. Enraged and insecure Cruz fled the lab and decided it was time to prove to himself and Althanas that he could become something more than a mistake. In his year absence from the lab Cruz found himself in the worse state yet. He was almost flat broke, unemployed, and was spending what gold pieces he did have less on nightly liquor at the local pubs. He found himself gathering his scattered thoughts in one of the few pubs he frequented in Underwood. He would meet Valimire up front after drinking a few pints.

The air around Cruz tasted sour to those who passed. Cruz hadn’t left his seat for hours, the only thing he did was order more rounds. Even when ordering another round of ale he didn’t look up, just sat in silence looking almost absent minded at the bar. The patrons around him were beginning to worry for his well being and one, a large man named Larson reported his fear to the bartender. The bartender, Frederick, who also happened to be the owner, tried to get Cruz’s attention by slamming his next round on the bar counter in front of him. Cruz hardly gave him the time of day, he reached up to grab his pint and flicked a single gold piece through the air into Frederick’s hand.

“You don’t look to well Cruz, quite frankly your beginning to worry my other customers... Bad for business, you understand?! Right?” Frederick’s teeth clicked together as if he were shivering, he was obviously scared of the hulking auburn haired Cruz.

Cruz starred back blankly, he wasn’t quite sure what Frederick meant but he found it very offensive. “No, Fred... Rick...” Cruz paused to bobble back and fourth in his stable bar stool. The room around him was spinning causing a nausea. “Ah whatever, you aren’t...” Cruz bobbled before letting out a few hiccups. “...You aren’t worth it man!”

“Cruz, isn’t that the sweet girl you’re waiting on... What was her name... Valimire?! You better sober up quick.” With that Frederick left Cruz alone and went to greet Valimire and show her to the empty seat next to Cruz.

Cruz didn’t even look up, his mind drifting from thought to thought. He knew what was happening but he didn’t care he was drunk. This was surely going to be another black out drunk night. Cruz thought one last sober smart thought before he slipped into a liquor induced state of mind.

The room got louder around Cruz and was beginning to get on his nerves. In a table not to far from Cruz and Valimire sat a short sluggish man and his friends. Cruz only knew two of the four men, the twins Shari and Tyrus. In Concordia they were known as the tainted twosome, and for good reason. These two had been responsible for more than thirty documented cases of burglary. They were criminals, which didn’t bother Cruz, but what was bothering him was their attitude. Since Valimire had entered the bar the party of four did nothing but stare and make rude gestures toward her. She was evidentially the prettiest woman in the whole bar. Cruz was already drunk, aggravated, and ready to fight. This bar would soon turn into a battleground if someone didn’t calm Cruz soon.

“So... ugh... You ready to go?” Cruz was obviously beginning to grow tired of the constant passes made by the four men at his woman. Valimire was getting bothered too. Cruz got up, casting a shadow over his date with his hulking body. He outsized the small tight frame of Valimire by at least 100 pounds.

“Hey loser sit down, you’re blocking the sight!” Shari would be the first to make the mistake to insult the drunk titan tonight. As Cruz turned back to face Shari and his friends, Valimire grabbed his arm from her seat.

“Let it go Cruz. I’m here with you not them.” Valimire sounded worried. Not for Cruz, but for the men who had been like hounds in heat since she had entered the bar. “Lets go!” She grabbed Cruz’s hand and began to lead him out of the bar, but as they passed the party of goons Shari rose from his seat.

“Hey there young lady, how would you like to be my broad! I can teach you things this dirtbag couldn’t even begin to comprehend.” Shari’s face was soft and pale. He wasn’t the toughest looking cat in the tavern. He was barely half of Cruz’s size and had a baby face with a shaved head to match. He thought he was slick. “Just ditch this joke and come join me for the night. This offer isn’t going to be open...”

Shari was cut off by the sudden jolt in his cheek that sent him flying into the table that he once sat with his pals. Cruz stood grinning and drunk still recovering from the punch he just unloaded onto Shari’s face. He didn’t look like such a pretty boy anymore.

“Now... Where was I?” Cruz questioned himself out loud. His free hand still was holding Valimire’s soft smooth hand. “Oh Yeah!” Cruz let go of Valimire and picked up an empty pitcher ready for whatever Shari and his goons would try to do next.
