What do you see when you're in the dark...

...and the Demons come for you...

Godsmack - Releasing the Demons

Corone - 2450 Years ago

"If my master could see me now, I'm more than certain he would call me insane..."

Dreadlocks fell into the eyes of the man, even as he growled lowly and under his breath, knowing better than to speak such words a loud. Marduk the Black had made the mistake of doing so once, when he revealed his true allegiances, and the repercussions had been rather dire. He was still repaying his master for the diamonds used to resurrect himself from the realms of the dead. His chain mail clinked softly even as he kept his breathing steady and relaxed. There was no reason to get worked up, at least yet.

The blade came down, aiming for the spot perfectly inline with his spine. It was a trick Marduk had seen used countless times, a probing strike meant to cause him to react in a way he could analyze. When Marduk was fighting alongside his opponent, it was always something he berated the thing for.

But the Golem couldn't get the hint.

So, when the falchion blade came down, prepared to test the waters, Marduk did what he knew would throw the mass of stone and metal before him. He grabbed the damn blade, and with a jerk ripped it from it's housing. As the Golem was caught off guard by the maneuver, he watched the gauntlets glow a soft green, before the hissing sounds and toxic scent of burning metal filtered through the air.

The Golem was sent sprawling, sparks flying from its metal carapace as it came to a sudden halt in its tread. The Dragon shaman looked at the ruined hunk of metal in his hands before with a disgusted grunt he tossed it aside. Looking balefully down at his opponent, he grunted, "You could never beat me you rusted hunk of metal, because you keep trying to understand things, rather than kill them."

It was then he heard the mutterings. Arcane words of power filtered into his ears as his mind raced to figure out how they fit together. His knowledge of Draconic told him this was a command to the burning fires of the elemental planes. It didn't take a genius to figure out what was coming down the hallway towards him. He even recognized some of the words from this particular annoyance's last attempts at stopping the Shaman.

When the ray of dazzling light came forth, the Shaman stepped one step to the side, watching as the bolt of light hit a pillar behind him, before obliterating it into dust. He snickered before he shouted out, "Oh, no warning for your old friend Magus?"

The words dripped with disdain, even as the boots he wore clicked over the stone tiles. Each careful tread of boots saw him reach closer to his next victim, even as he could see the elf coming into view. The egotistical sack of triteness and hypocrisy that called itself Kyr Kaital was already weaving another spell, as he attampted to dodge the Shaman. Each step seemed more ominous than the last, before the Mage was backed into a wall, still trying desperately to cast the spell.

Before he could finish the last word, a gauntlet clad hand clutched the scrawny elf by the throat, and squeezed. A humorous squeak left his new found toy, before it clutched the arm supporting him tightly, trying desperately to break the iron grip of his foe. Even under the mask, a leer could be seen, before the breath of the shaman washed over the Magus' face.

"Any last words, before I end your pathetic attempts at a resistance?"

The grin across the elf's face caused the draconic human to loosen his grip enough for the wizard to say, "I'm not the one casting..."

Before he could drop the mage and turn to face whoever was casting, he heard the final verse. Immediately his vision began to tunnel, before even that was fading. He gnashed and wailed, attempting to destroy the magic's hold upon him, but it was a losing battle, and before he knew it, the world was white about him. A low growl left his lips before he shouted, "Don't think that because I can't see you Ben, that I won't gut the Magus before using his body to find you! I will have your heart for a plaything before today is out!"

Only silence met him...
