Yamihara
08-14-09, 03:58 AM
((Level 2 Update, finally. I've modified some information so they might not be worded the same as the Level 1 Update. However, I'll note the definite changes in Red as usual.))

Name: Asuka Yamihara
Title: Duchess of West Akashima
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Height: 5’ 10”
Weight: 120
Hair Color: Copper red
Eye Color: Light Brown

Appearance:

After returning to the Yamihara House in Western Akashima, the maiden has gone through a make-over to be more "presentable" when in the presence of the Akashima High Council. Her disheveled red hair is combed smooth and tied in a low, tidy ponytail. Her slightly tanning skin is a shade darker than the other girls of her status (closer to a farmgirl's tan, understandably from all that work and wandering about). Discarding her usual leather tanktop, she now wears the standard Akashiman wardrobe of the Nobles: A light blue kimono coupled with deep indigo hakama. However, when not on official duty, she tends to revert to Radasanthian-style of a light cotton t-shirt, sometimes wearing a deep red jacket over it, and indigo jeans. Often times when working in the field, she would dress to match the people around her to avoid standing out.

Personality:

While still a tomboy at heart, Asuka has learned to control her impulses in order to function as a respectable ruler. Her wild mood swings are no longer as apparent as her adventuring days, requiring one to catch her in a very relaxed mood to see her act like a "normal" girl her age. Her fear of spider is perhaps the only thing the has not been able to conquer.

She still disdains the pompous acts of ignorant nobles, but understanding that they are that way because of how they were raised. She tries her best not to snap at them on a whim, while trying to object in a civil manner. Self control is still easily worn thin, however, and will most likely storm out of a meeting after delivering a barrage of criticism to a particularly arrogant noble.

Weapons:

Simple Katar (x2) - A gift from a merchant from long ago, the 3-inch katar blades are made of iron and tapers to a point. They are chipped and worn, seemingly ready to disintegrate at a moment's notice. The iron clasp that acts as a small shield is equally battered and riddled with dents.

Steel Gauntlets (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?t=3507) (x2) - Acquired at the Radasanthian Bazaar, they are made of tempered steel and covers her fist and lower arm. Technically, they're only slabs of steel riveted to the top side of a long leather glove, providing somewhat limited protection but particularly adequate when coupled with a boxing-style combat art.

Armor:

Steel Gauntlets (Noted above)

Items:

Smoke bomb - Talc powder and explosive propellent is contained inside a grape-size clay ball. When thrown to the ground, the propellent and powder erupts to create a smokescreen. Some side effects may occur, usually from allergic reactions to dust. Currently 3 in stock.

First-aid kit - A small bag with bandages, rubbing alcohol, cotton balls and a set of pins for treating minor wounds.

Skills:

Dodge - A skill now strictly useful only in close-quarter combat, Asuka moves her body slightly to the side as she sees an incoming attack. Rapid attacks or multiple strikes are difficult to avoid with her current level of skill. She is unable to avoid homing or extremely quick attacks, the best she could do is avoid receiving a direct hit to a vital point. (Skill Level: Above Average)

Dash - Generally used to cover ground quickly, the technique relies on quickly plowing the ground with her legs and leaning forward close to the ground. This is usually followed by a Triple Jab, using the element of surprise to attack the opponent when their guard is down. This could also be used to evade medium- to long-range attacks, provided enough ground has to be covered before it reaches her. She can run for about 2 minutes continuously, afterwards it would leave her breathless. She can cover 100 meters in a little over 10 seconds. (Skill Level: Above Average)

Triple Jab - A triple punch, in its basic form. When executed properly each strike that lands is slightly amplified by the next. Can be used with the punching gauntlets and the katar, though misuse or overuse tires her out very quickly. The inherent inaccuracy renders this technique somewhat underpowered. (Skill Level: Average)

Flameburst (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?t=3932) - A skill that can only be executed after a successful Triple Jab (when not wearing her katars), causes a fiery explosion that causes minor burn but moderate concussive impact. (Skill Level: Below Average) (Gained at the end of the quest)

First-Aid - She can treat minor wounds with a first-aid kit and treat minor illness, such as the flu or fever. She hasn’t learned how to mend broken bones or treat poison, since she have yet to encounter any case. (Skill Level: Average)

History:

It has been only a year since the maiden had been thrown from her home, the Yamihara House of West Akashima. Having taken up the man's clothes and mindset, she set out to explore the world around her. But not long after, news of her father's passing - the Duke of West Akashima, Hiroi Yamihara - reached her ears through a very close friend.

After returning to reclaim her rightful title, Asuka seemed to have abandoned her adventurous lifestyle to assume her duty as caretaker of the western Akashiman kingdom. But her path would not be without obstacles - especially from the very class of nobility which she has been born into.

Also, with the Corone Civil War still raging just beyond the kingdom's border, the Yamihara House is set against an unavoidable fate.

Accompanying NPC

Name: Tokita Namashiki
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Height: 6’ 1”
Weight: 155
Hair Color: Deep brown
Eye Color: Chocolate Brown

Appearance:

Tokita is a rather tall man with fair build, looking more like a high-born than a mere errand boy employed by the House. His rugged look and clothing style remained true to his persona and his earth-tone cotton work clothes were stained with dirt and leaves - something he really did not mind at all. His short, shaggy hair that seemed to be in perpetual mess is clear evidence of his easy-going nature.

Personality:

Care-free and easy-going, Tokita is more of a a typical commoner even though he was raised around those of noble birth. He holds an admiration for Asuka for her friendly treatment despite their different social classes. He seeks to finally earn the right to belong in the higher strata, partly to finally rid himself of the ridicule imposed by the other self-absorbed nobility as well as for an ulterior motive he dared not share with anyone. He also is a very bad liar - simply because he cannot tell a lie.

Armor:

Tokita wears nothing of the traditional armor, though his rough cotton jerkins and pants were more than enough protection for him.

Weapon:

Tokita carries only a sturdy steel rapier at his side, though he rarely unsheath it in combat unless in a dire situation. The simple design has a distinct dragon motif at the base of the blade, announcing that the fine blade was made by the hands of the late Kashihiro Murakama - a well-known blacksmith who created fine blades for both the commoners and the nobles.

Skills and Abilities:

Basic Swordplay - Tokita knows a few basic swordplay maneuvers and tactics, though a well-trained sword fighter or even a common soldier can outright overpower his "Stab and Retreat" tactics. Because he only knows swordplay, he knows no "dirty tricks" that can be used to tip the scales in his favor. Or rather, he looks down on it completely.

Fist-Fighting - Reserving the blade only as a last resort defense, Tokita often times fight his opponents with his bare hands. Utilizing mainly striking palms and fists, he also knows basic footwork and has been known to use his knees when the opportunity arises. He is rather slow for the most parts and would rather not try kicking his opponents with his legs.

I'm going to let the bit on the Flameburst slide, since it's the only relative update I can see. Be careful when using in battles against levels 3 or more above your own. Other than that, approved.
