<<Hello, it's been a long time (5 years!) since I've role played on Althanas, but I still have my old profile. I've updated it a bit, let me know what you think. Thanks!>>

Name: Dyne Kelguard, Rikael
Age: 35 years old.
Height: 6'0
Weight: 170 lbs.
Gender: Male.
Hair: An inky black with flecks of gray to reflect his age. Shoulder length.
Eyes: Still brown and clear as a flame, but surrounded by wrinkles.

Appearance: Dyne is tall, with a light brown complexion. He is still slightly muscled from his strenuous training as a knight, but his age has caught up with him -- he now has a slight paunch. His eyes are brown - so dark as to be black - which flash from time to time, especially when angry. Dyne's hair extends to his shoulders now, with flecks of gray interspersed, giving him an aged, mature look. Due to his quiet, steady personality, many have given him the name, "The Dark Knight." It is also, obviously, because he always wears dark armor and cloak.

Weapons: When he first arrived, Dyne had only a broadsword for a weapon. He was later given a Monstrous Orcish Sword by his late friend and leader, Ithermoss Hec'Bahal. Dyne carries this for rare, emergency use, but continues sharpening his trusty broadsword for all other purposes.

Armor: Dyne has not purchased any new armor since his last purchase of Dehlar Plate Mail at the Icereaver's Trading Outpost. He carries his fairly expensive Damascus Shield, which now has the emblem of the Blue Phoenix engraved onto it. He also found the Blessed Helm on a quest long ago, which he wears at all times. It provides great wisdom and intuition to help Dyne out of difficult situations.

Items: He continues to wear his dusty, old boots, and his favorite grey cloak. A small skinning knife is also in his possession for survival in the wilderness. Dyne received a tapestry with a doll on it, worth 50 gp, in the Anebrilith Hunter's Challenge. He also fought a demon knight called Zieg ag'Tulfried and won the battle, receiving a jungle camouflage suit. Later, he lost to Ithermoss Hec'Bahal in a Gisela-style battle, receiving a night light as consolation. Dyne has, in the cheer of Open Handedness, given his old azure cloak to a member of the Red Hand called Koran.

Familiar: His trusty wolf, Shadow, stays doggedly at his side. The two have become close in the past year or two. A bond has formed that had been non-existent when Shadow had been purchased. A dark-furred wolf with grey and silver streaks. Loyal, firm, and, sometimes, playful eyes gaze out at the casual viewer. An intelligent wolf with stealth, speed, and tirelessness. Shadow has been quite inactive as of late, and so Dyne has decided to let him roam free in the wild until he is needed again.

Skills: Still a good hand with swords of most kinds i.e. longswords, claymores, etc. Dyne would like to see his quarterstaff handling improved, as well as his battle-axe training. For this, he needs a teacher, but there are seldom any at this time and age. Dyne is much faster and smoother in blade strokes than he was when he first arrived in Althanas. Although he is far from perfect, Dyne can dazzle young children with his swiftness.

Personality: Dyne has always been a thoughtful, dynamic, and dedicated individual, loyal to his friends and merciless to his enemies. The years have changed him from a young, brash, oft-arrogant swordsman into an older, steadier, and humbler knight. He takes time with his actions and thinks several steps into the future before doing anything of importance. His maturity has given him a wider world view and respect for others different from himself.

=Level 0 Spells=

--None usable now--

=Level 1 Spells=

Heaven's Fury: This spell strengthens as Dyne levels up. For example, the next spell of this sort will be faster or stronger. Dyne glows iridescently and hovers a few inches above the ground. Bringing his hands together, pure ice forms in his hands. Dyne sends it off with a loud sound sending him back, but propelling the rapid stream of ice towards the opponent.

=Level 2 Spells=

Phoenix Spirit [NOT USABLE]: Both Dyne and Shadow combine into one form, an azure phoenix, constructed out of pure, blue fire. In the Phoenix form, they charge, at a blazing speed, towards the opponent(s). If they make contact, a blaze will consume the enemy, and give one of the following: instant unconsciousness, first-degree burns, small gashes or wounds, or temporary blindness. He can use this only once a day, as it drains him partially. Also, Shadow will be vulnerable to attacks if this spell does not make contact.

This spell cannot be used since Shadow is no longer with Dyne.

Tarea's Chant: A throbbing, holy song soaring to the heavens, filled with ancient legends and wars. It was named after the legendary hero, Tarea Zerond. Dyne gains the ability to replicate himself, with this spell. He can now form two other perfect images of himself to trick the enemy. The other images are figments, so they cannot penetrate an enemy's skin. The knight can only hold this for about a minute, and cast this thrice a day.

=Level 3 Spells=

Erupting Sword: Dyne essentially uses the earth as his ally in this move. Stabbing the ground with his blade, Dyne can create a seismic tremor. In other words, an earthquake of magnific proportions. The ground shivers and cracks, erupting energy in a blast radius of about 30 feet. Everything in that radius will be affected by the technique. The energy resonating from the center will decrease as it spreads, moving in all directions. The opponent will be thrown off their feet and injured severely. The enemy shall be able to stand again, but only after a few moments. The damage they take will depend on their level, and lower levels than Dyne will be hit harder. Damage ranges from small cuts and bruises to large welts and gashes.

=Level 4 Spells=

Hell Fusion: Similar to the Zodiac Stones transforming their users into mighty spirits, this ability allows Dyne to transform into the mighty Hell Knight Athakoros, who resides within his dark half. In this form, Dyne/Athakoros is twice as strong as a normal knight, and his appearance is markedly different. Athakoros wears heavy black armor with flames emanating from his body. His helm only has an opening for his eyes and mouth, the eyes a smoldering reddish black, the mouth breathing out smoke. The weapon he wields is the mighty Demon Blade, Hellfire, sheathed in purest Dark Flame. Also a new addition is that he is a foot taller than Dyne, and one hundred pounds heavier. He is twice as agile as Dyne, and his Hell Magic is mighty. For now, though, this ability gives Dyne/Athakoros the power to create small, burning Dark Flames which he can use as projectiles against enemies. These flames are not very strong with minor damage. Overall, Athakoros is slightly stronger, faster, and more powerful than Dyne. But, Dyne can control Athakoros in a limited fashion. The Dark Spirit in Dyne can unleash a berserk rage, and Dyne will not be able to control the mighty beast in himself, attacking even his own friends and comrades. This ability is used RARELY, and even then only lasts for three posts. Once Dyne is able to control the Dark Half, he may be able to gain more powers from this ability.

A Grand History:

Centuries pass on, even millennia, endlessly, with no spectacular event occuring. This is how kingdoms and lands of any kind progress, dully and uneventfully for thousands of years. Yet, out of the gloom and grey background of time spring legends and heroes, to fight against those who would oppress the poor and weak. The first of these to come in the ancient land of Truce was the Ranger of the Eastern Pass, Keren Anatos. A silent, solitary man, he was not given much to drawn-out speeches or conversations. History remembers him well as a reserved fighter for justice. In those days, which were many hundreds of years before the present, there was a powerful necromancer of great evil called Dionyx. He brutally slaughtered the people in his land who dared to oppose his will and ambitions for conquering the world. He spread his mark from a small territory in the northwest of Truce; soon, the sorceror controlled all the land west of the Lesile River. The Lesile River marked the boundary between the eastern and western parts of Truce.

Now, Keren heard of the news of the ever-spreading plague that swarmed over the lands east of his garrison. Yet, he had the confidence to believe that they would not dare to pass the Lesile River. Even if they did, his garrison would be able to defend against even ten thousand troops; the walls of the fort were built upon the mountains overlooking the river, cut from the same rock on which they stood. This overconfidence was to prove deadly. Dionyx surged with his forces of undead warriors and unspeakable horrors towards the last bastion of hope, between the enslaved territory and the free lands of East Truce. The necromancer's ultimate goal was to secure Truce for himself, declaring himself King. While the hordes under the Magi massed towards Keren's garrison at East Pass, the Ranger in command sat back idly. When the forces of darkness stood before the proud gates of Eastmark, Keren paled at the description of the armies outside his doors. Almost ten thousand warriors and beings had charged through the desolate wastelands of Western Truce to conquer the East.

Keren cursed himself for underestimating their strength, but quickly hatched a plan. There were nearly four thousand soldiers under his command; the enemy outnumbered them more than two to one. The Ranger of the East summoned his magical power, honed by years of practice underneath the tutelage of a wise sorcerer. Unleashing mighty pillars of flame and mind-blasting waves, along with the help of the dozen sorcerers at the garrison, lowered the enemy morale. However, Dionyx had his own darker magic, and he used it without restraint. Two hundred fighters fell to the necromancer's power, many within a few moments. Keren and Dionyx were toe-to-toe, neither winning more battles than the other. The two faced each other in ritual, armed combat, as negotiated after thirty days of endless fighting, and fought to their very last ounce of energy. It took Keren's battle-axe, Cloudsplitter, to finally kill Dionyx.

Of course, he was not without massive injuries, but the enemy morale was so low that the forces dissipated immediately. Keren staggered back to his garrison, leaving orders that his second-in-command, Rallider Lagron, should be placed as commander. He knew that Dionyx had given him his mortal wound. Two days later, on the first day of summer, Keren knew it was time to pass on. The troops huddled around his room, but only the officers were permitted inside. Lying on his deathbed, in full regalia, he gasped out these last words:

"I do not wish for any of you to weep for me,
Because you are all brave men, brave warriors.
I hold all of you in the highest esteem,
Follow your new leader as you would have for me.
Ah..the sun shines brightly, the flowers are blooming,
And, I am at peace, complete solitude, eternal rest..."

And, so a hero died, forever engraved in the annals of history. Keren Anatos, Ranger of the East, Savior of Truce, Legend and Hero. Thankfully, his lineage continued on, through his son Albarond. The descendants of this family were ordinary people, yet proud of the heroes who had sprung up in their family line. This ability to produce heroes, who had risen from ordinary caste, would continue for generations. Why is this important to our tale of Dyne Kelguard? Well, it so happens that Dyne was the only surviving descendant of Keren Anatos. A tragedy occured some time after Dyne was secure in the Truce Academy for Knights. The Truce-Fendalan War erupted suddenly, while he was only twenty-two years old. He was almost completing his knighthood, when the jealous Fendalas Republic joined forces with the expanding Galdaerian Empire, notorious for their lack of scruples and mercenary behavior.

The Great War, as Dyne now calls it, was a one-sided battle. It was obvious to the Trucans that their annihilation was eminent. The powerful Galdaerians and Fendalans, together, would easily wipe out the Trucans. And, wipe out they did, from the eldest man to the tiniest babe, the enemy forces were brutal and merciless. This sight of so much destruction and brutality gave Dyne a bitterness that would be further aggravated by the next course of events. He had thought that he would be active in the defense of the capital city of Truce, Karyaga. Yet, his masters at the Academy had forbade him to join in, because they looked out for his welfare. It was sure death to join in the combat, but if Dyne escaped, he would be likely to live. Thus, with anguish and guilt, the knight was teleported off, by his Magic Master, to another land famed to be peaceful. His father and mother died in battle, as well as innumerable friends and classmates.

He heard of all this, and sunk into great despair and depression. After fighting battles in the Citadel, with Yari Rafanas to name one, and making friendship with a fellow knight, Promethius Montagues, Dyne became moderately happy again. With his good friend, Promethius, the knight joined a clan called the Icereavers. The Icereaver-Facade clan war occured shortly after his initiation into the Icereavers. He fought, as well as he could, but fell to, ironically enough, Yari Rafanas, a long-time rival. After the course to heaven, Dyne met his father there, which gave him immense happiness. At least, now, he could be with his beloved father. Yet, Avedon Kelguard told him, forcefully, that his destiny in Althanas was not yet completed. Dyne would have to go back. This caused great anguish, but he knew his father was right. This time, Avedon blessed Dyne's Damascus Shield with the power to summon a mystical beast when he had mastered his emotions. The shield bears the symbol of a blue phoenix. After coming back to the world, Dyne fought several times more, with varying opponents: Ithermoss Hec'Bahal, Zieg Ag'Tulfried, and Yari Rafanas. Weathered by many battles, and more mature than before, Dyne began his own clan, The Guardians, which has now fallen as an aside project. He vowed to work on it later, after he has conquered his inner demons, which have begun to plague him.

These inner demons will begin to manifest themselves, soon, in a more dangerous and explosive way than he has ever imagined. These demons have manifested themselves. Dyne has fought his inner conscience and beaten it in several battles, culminating in the complete victory of the knight in the recent battle with Zieg Ag'Tulfried. The knight also ventured on a solo quest, which resulted in his gaining of the Blessèd Helm and the discovery of the division of his personalities. There are two people in Dyne: Light and Dark. Each gives Dyne abilities depending on their attributes. The knight has the Darkness in him to thank for his powerful, magical spells. He also has the Light in him to thank for the kindness and intelligence in himself. This enlightenment has divinely changed the knight into a more balanced and cool-tempered person. Embracing the dual spirits of his consciousness, the knight has strengthened his resolve and will to accomplish all things. He has also begun work on the ceremonial weapon of his faction in the Red Hand, the Thunder Sign. The Blitzstorm Awakens is a quest that will help Dyne construct a powerful and magical weapon. The fire and ambition in the knight has struck a new note, and he is prepared to take on anything. Fate has its own surprises in store...

Indeed, the Dark Half has manifested itself by giving Dyne a paradoxical blessing and curse. It has given him a mighty new power, the Hell Fusion, but this power can go berserk at times, and he has not gained sufficient control over it where he could use it frequently. Dyne must willingly change, but more and more transformations leaves him vulnerable to the Dark Half's constant attacks on his mind and his sanity. Not much has changed with Dyne in the time that has past, but he has entered the Gisela Open which he hopes to win. And, his clan, the Grey Braves, have gained a new home. However, Dyne has tired of leadership, and has relinquished chieftanship of the GB to his close friend and confidant, Velius Demorio. He is still staying on as an Advisor, though. His close friend, Ithermoss Hec'Bahal, recently passed away, bringing him much grief and sorrow. With his passing, Ithermoss generously gave Dyne his Monstrous Orcish Sword and the title of Rikael, the Honor Guard. This tragic death has given him a maturity beyond his years, although quite sorrowful.

Indeed, through a fateful battle against a drake ten years ago, Dyne sacrificed his life to save another's. None have seen him since, but it is rumored that he has been seen in these parts recently. Only time will tell if he has returned and why.

Um...before I approve this, let's see about getting you that experience back. You should not be restarting at level 0 (unless you want to, and then, remove those higher level spells!).

Either way, welcome back.
