Althanas is all about assisting the writers on the site, and we’ve expanded our judging options to include just that. On this site we pride ourselves on the rubric, as well as our ability to help others truly aspire to be an amazing writer. No matter whom you are, this forum is here for your use. A few guidelines will be posted next, explaining the uses of this forum, and then I will hand it over to you!
I, personally, will try and offer advice in every thread posted. As the Head Judge on the site, as well as the admin overseeing judging, I feel it is a responsibility and honor to give to others what has been so freely offered to me over the years of writing on Althanas. If you feel that something is unjustified, feel free to PM me or catch me on AIM (TheTaskmienster), and I will address the issues as quickly as I can.
Thank you all for making Althanas something unique and wonderful on the internet. I want to ensure that we are the dominant place for people to learn and perfect their writings, as well as the most prominent and enticing site on the internet for aspiring writers.
The Original Purpose
The purpose of this forum is, at its heart, the assistance with all creative writing. The forum was created for the people to help each other, note things that need improvement, and praise things that were done well. The Writing Workshop is a function new to Althanas, a function that is founded on the principles that created the site. We are dedicated, first and foremost, to learning and teaching on Althanas. It is our mission, a site wide goal, to give to our members the best advice to become better writers and to hone the skills at writing that we all adore. Anyone can write, fundamentals of writing can be learned, and perfection in writing takes time and practice. We, the staff and fellow players, believe in each of you to express yourselves freely and show us all that you are here to be more than just another name. You are important to the site as more than a statistic, we all accept everyone as an important base for our Althanas, and look forward to helping you with anything.
The Secondary Purpose
The Writing Workshop is something unique to Althanas that I, personally, have never seen done before on any other site. Our dedication to your writing is by far above all else. This forum is created in order to fulfill a judging option that we have created. Moderators will be claiming threads that request a Workshop and posting them in this forum. The thread that will be posted will be left up for as long as the writer wishes it to be open. A link will be posted at the beginning of each thread to be judged, so that the members can easily access it. After at least a week’s time the thread will be judged, and a condensed rubric will be used in place of the full rubric. The majority of the commentary for the thread will be found in the thread, offered by your peers. Of course, the judge will still add their own commentary in the condensed judgment. No commentary offered in the thread by the members will be immediately used by the judges, though at times they may reflect what others say based on similar issues or praise from the thread found by the mod as well as the members. We’ve created this to help you, the players, by empowering you to assist your peers as well as the mods who will have a little bit more time to judge.
The Tertiary Purpose
Not originally designed or spoken of in such a manner, but I’m going to add it in its creation… the Writing Workshop is for everyone to use, not just the staff. This forum is not exclusive to the judges to post in, but is opened to anyone who wishes for acclaim and/or assistance with their writing. If you are interested in gaining peer reviews for your writing this is the place for you. When creating a thread in this forum, please post a link at the beginning of every thread that offers the user either a way to reach your thread or particular post. Please note though, that if your thread is not responded to, it does not mean that nobody cares… it could be that people are busy, or staff members are working on the site itself. Just give it some time, and we will definitely be there for you.
Rules of the Forum
Rule 1 :: This is not an option or forum created to bash, demoralize, or flame/spam fellow writers. We are not giving you all an option to put up your writing to the review of your peers so that you can be rude and brash. It will not be tolerated. Please, keep your helpful criticisms just that… helpful. If you attack another player, you will not be given more than a single warning. I will be watching this carefully.
Rule 2 :: Anyone can ask for help! The original design of the option of the Writing Workshop was to allow players to offer up their threads to their peers, moderators/administrators and those non-staff alike. However, I am not going to restrict the use of this forum to only threads that have asked for the judgment option. If you would like a critical review of your writing, offered up by both mods and players alike, you are free to post a new thread in this forum. I would request that you follow the rules, do not get offended to easily by what people have to say, and post a link to the thread in question so that we can easily find your thread.
Rule 3 :: Be calm, don’t be offended, and don’t expect a gentle response to your writing every time. There are a lot of people on the site, not everyone writes the same way, and though your personal style of writing may be questioned at times, it does not necessarily mean that you should stop writing altogether. In truth, it’s the exact opposite! Take the critique to heart, try and use what is being given to you, and in turn really try and work on your writing. That is what this forum is for!
