Check it out if you're unfamiliar. If you're as excited as I am, share your thoughts!

It seems interesting enough, if I were in a different time in my life where I had time for such things, the group of people to play it with, and was not drowned in work and to a far lesser extent games that interest me more.

I've put Borderlands on my "to play" list, but not very high on that list. I've had my fill of roaming free in the wasteland with Fallout 3 (so much so that I haven't even played any of the DLCs) and I don't plan to do that again any time soon. And while Borderlands does have a rather unique graphic style, I haven't seen anything else that would attract me to it. I'll probably download it and stash it into my archive, for the rainy days.

Personally, I'm waiting for Dragon Age: Origins. If it's half as good as Baldur's Gate 2, it's still going to be pure awesomeness.

Defo with Letho on that, been eagerly awaiting Dragon Age for six months, shaping up to be game of the year for sure!

(And Lips Number Ones is pure party win!)

40 45 Soldier. Just bought Doctor Ned's Zombie Island (DLC) for it and have been having a blast. Who knew that if you added zombies and some horror to this game it'd make it so much more fun.

The game definitely caught my interest, but as has been said, I think I'm wasteland-ed out for a while thanks to Fallout 3. But I'll certainly snag it eventually, the tagline makes me too tickled not to "The Shooter and RPG made a baby."

I want more games like that, Hellgate London without the fail (Don't get me wrong I LOVED Hellgate, but there was just too much they were trying to do and it all fell apart)

I have to admit that I'm not overly impressed with Borderlands so far. For a game that is both a FPS and an RPG, it severely lacks at least a half decent story. Instead you just plop down on this planet and run around doing some menial tasks, causing me to have flashbacks of the Hellgate: London crap. The quests are by and large monotonous, collect 4 of those, kill 5 of these, kill a boss enemy, very MMO-like, I guess. As far as the setting goes, there's the rather unique graphical look, yes, but I personally found the locales of Fallout 3 far more intriguing and diverse. The worst thing are the NPCs which are reduced to notice boards from which you pick up quests.

It's not all bad, though. The gameplay is very good and can keep you playing for hours, especially if you like to collect loot. The classes and weapons differ and fiddling around with what the best combo is for you can be fun. But the problem is again that there is no meaning to it all. You collect better stuff to get stronger to be able to beat stronger enemies that drop even better stuff... It gets a bit tedious after a while, and you start to think that you should've been doing something better with your time. Borderlands is a game of numbers and statistics, and the point of the game is just to get bigger numbers and feel good about yourself when you make a 1500+ damage headshot from half a map away (yes, I played the hunter class). And while in the short run it can be fun, after I put in over 10 hours into the game, I just don't see myself doing it for another 10 or 20 or however much it takes to beat the damn thing.

I'm archiving this one for the rainy days and keep waiting for Mass Effect 2. Bioware rocks.

Agreed. I saw the big gap in gameplay as well, and for the longterm this isn't the kind of game that has a lot of replayability. However, I WOULD recommend buying the DLC of Zombie Island and seeing if you enjoy it. I think the biggest saving grace for this game is the potential for add-ons like these which can give you different things to do with the skills, weapons and levels you already amassed. I had a hard go of ZI the first time with my soldier (I was 38. The base level to do it was 42. I was so low in terms of fighting power that conventional zombies kicked my ass.), and plowed through it again with my lower level berzerker.

Overall, I'd say it's a decent game to play if you have time to kill, but if I wanted mindless fun, I'd go play TF2. =P

Just finished Bioshock, however, and now I can't wait for the sequel. ;)

Bioshock was pretty awesome, but I felt that it didn't live up to it's spiritual predecessor, System Shock 2. It almost felt like SS2 lite, albeit in a different setting. The RPG system present in SS2 was dumbed down, something we have the consoles to thank for, I think.

At any rate, despite what I said in my last post, I'm still playing Borderlands, though it's mostly because I need mindless fun right now and I can't decide on what game to start next. After some 70+ hours spent on Dragon Age, I have to admit that it's quite a nice reprieve. Yes, it's repetitive and shallow, but it's also very easy to pick up and just play. It's bad sides get more pronounced as you play, though. The car is nice for running people over with, but it's also very good at getting stuck in weirdest of places, and almost always when you're surrounded by a number of enemies. Also, I hate how there are no really unique weapons. There's a lot of variety, sure, but they're pretty much the same weapons with different statistics assigned to them and name painted in greed/blue/yellow/whatever.

I'll look into Zombie Island if I don't get bored by level 40 or so. I'm at 27 now, and oddly enough still not quite bored with critical kills from like half a mile away. :D

You know, Letho, I think you'd suit House Of The Dead: Overkill. I really don't know why. I really, really don't know...

I'm not quite sure what the craze is about Borderlands, in the same way I'm still utterly bewildered about Team Fortress 2. Ok, admittedly, I've not played either, but I've seen enough videos, screenies and trailors to still think Halo 3 and Soldier of Fortune II multiplayer games rock harder. Personal opinion, maybe. Uninformed, maybe. But I'm happier for it.

Oh, and I've had Final Fantasy Dissidia for three weeks, and already clocked up seventy two hours on it. I really, really suck at time management. Yet tonight for the first time I managed to churn out four or five lengthy posts in character.

Gotta disagree hardcore with Halo 3 being even a near decent multiplayer experience. Just Halo 2 with another melee spammed weapon.

Team Fortress 2 is an amazing team based game. Lots of unique levels and ways to counter any class that could ever be even uttered as unbalanced.

And Borderlands is really on my crap list because of the multiplayer, nay, lack of multiplayer abilities. Haven't touched it in a couple of months since beating the first run through (ending was god awful), but I truly do miss 4 player non-stop chaos. It's extremely fun having so many insanely hard enemies to kill for 6-8 minutes straight, only to limp out of it into yet another fight. Good times, imo.

They just need to fix that damn multiplayer connection. This isn't 1998 anymore. NOBODY WANTS GAMESPY!

I bought The Orange Box because it was a ridiculously good deal, so I gave TF2 a shot as well, even though I don't usually do multiplayer. And while it might be a good game to play with a team or something, when you're starting off on your own, it's not very easy to get into. You either get obliterated by people who know what they're doing, or you do a bit of obliteration of your own on the people who really really suck. But I guess this is true for all multiplayer games. Me, I'm more of a (Han) solo type of guy.

I dropped Borderlands soon after I my last post. After a while I just started asking myself why am I doing it and I couldn't find a decent answer. Not with other better games waiting to be played. So now I'm replaying Dragon Age with a rogue and rogues kick ass. I don't usually play rogues, but I already played through it with a fighter and mages are just pussies. I'll leave them for last. :P

As for Dissidia... I don't know. I dropped it rather quickly for some reason. I played through a couple of stories, but the amount of time needed to do everything is just ridiculous, and I don't have ridiculous amounts of time anymore. And on top of that, I'm not a big fan of beat'em ups.

When you start asking why you are playing a game, and can't think of a reason, it usually means there is a problem. FFVI, VII, VIII and IX have not yet done that to me despite me having three full PS One memory cards of 60+ hour master files....

lol

Final Fantasy XII definitely did that to me.

"God this story line fails...and it's like I'm playing an MMO by myself!"
