Galleoyn
07-23-06, 11:01 PM
(Gal-eh-oh-in)
Age: 56 (20 in appearance)
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 129lbs
Race: Half-Elven
Appearance
Galleoyn is a tall, thin, pasty man, appearing as a slender human in his early twenties, although he is much closer to his sixties, as elven blood courses through his veins. He appears to have spent far too long out of the sun, and too much time in front of a book. His eyes are a dull blue, and he is somewhat near sighted, but his smile is usually warm and inviting. His long, black hair is kept tied back, or left to flow down to his neck and shoulders, covering his slightly pointed ears.
He wears long, white robes, lined with runes of power that amplify his healing magic, helping him to gather the energy needed to cast his white magic spells. He wears a half-pair of reading glasses to make up for his near sightedness, and to read the small, black, leather spell book he carries on his hip. On each of his arms sits a pair of silver bracelets, although whether or not they are magical is hard to say. His sandals are still very new and in excellent shape, indicating he may not be used to doing a lot of walking.
Personality
Galleoyn is blessed with the ability to find fault in everything. He follows orders only if they are exact and there are no visible flaws with them. If the command is given forcefully, he will follow it, but make some sort of effort to bring misery to the person who gave the order, without going outside the guidelines of the contract or command. A sort of be "careful what you wish for" complex.
Despite this trait, Galleoyn is actually outwardly friendly, although he always harbors a secret opinion about everyone. He lacks the ability to make friends easily, but is more or less loyal to people who treat him as an equal or superior. He is an excellent leader, most likely because he favors watching other people do work while he sits back and reads.
Galleoyn travels under the guise of a friendly white mage, and plays the role well. He is, actually, quite proficient with white magic, but his real talent lies in necromancy. Because the practice is often frowned upon, Galleoyn seldomly practices his art in front of his allies, and if accused of the practice, he will deny it.
History
Sired by a noble elven mage and with a mother who was a spiritual gypsy, Galleoyn was more or less born and bred to magic. Because of his mother's close ties to the spirit world, and his father's hereditary high intelligence, Galley was the perfect vessel for the arcane arts.
At birth, the child was shunned as a demon by the overly superstitious Gypsies, and his father had to take him to the more understanding, elven community in order to keep him safe. It was rumored that some short time after giving birth to Galleoyn, his mother passed away.
Brought up in the strict elven community, Galleoyn led a double life. In public, he was a good natured elf, upholding all the values of the magic-based community, and excelling in the white arts. But there was also a dark side to the troubled and traumatized boy. He found an excitement and pleasure in knowledge; even that which was forbidden to his people. It was only a matter of time before his people discovered this obsession.
His family and friend's cared for him too much to give him the typical banishment, customary to those who practiced the dark arts, but it did not matter. Young Galley insisted that it would be best for him to leave and study elsewhere, not bringing anymore pain to the people he cared about. Grudgingly, the people let him go, and Galleoyn left his homeland, never to return.
Some of the elders of his village would later say that the boy was too ashamed of the blackness growing in his heart to face his loved ones again, but in truth, it didn't pain Galley that much to leave.
His natural talent for the art landed him in several apprentice positions with several types of mages, but (unfortunately, some would say) he found his calling in necromancy.
He was not evil like the stereotypical necromancers in stories. In fact, he was taught that even the art of healing one's wounds, is in fact, necromancy: the art of practicing power over life and death. No, Galleoyn was not evil, but neither was he good. He found that he could not live under the teachings of the mage who sponsored him, and sought a life where he could practice his art without being under the watchful eye of a master.
Where the promising young wizard ended up is left a mystery for the time being.
Weapons
Oak Staff - This simple staff made from the wood of an oak tree is sturdy, but somewhat heavy. The low quality of the wood prevents it from being enchanted.
Armor:
Linen Robes - The thick, white, linen robes he wears offer slight protection, but are quite flammable and soil easily.
Items
-Spell book
-Half-framed reading glasses
Spell components
-5"x5" piece of leather
-1 onyx gem
Skills:
((Note, bold words indicate parts of a skill which may be subject to change over the course of leveling up.))
White Magic - This is not to be mistaken for clerical magic. The white magic is not granted by any god or deity, but is rather, brought about by Galleoyn's knowledge of how magic affects the human body. It is also an excellent front for someone who wants to hide their knowledge of the undead. Who would accuse a healer? Galleoyn is gifted in the art, but due to his focus on necromancy, will never be a powerful as he could be.
Necromancy - After years of study, Galleoyn has gained knowledge of the human body and how it is affected by the dark arts. He has spent hours hovering over cadavers, weaving enchantments into the dead bodies to see how they react. His skill is formidable for such a low level mage, but he has a lot of room to grow.
Studies - Spending most of his life surrounded by books, Galleoyn has learned much more than just the art of magic. He is somewhat knowledgeable in herbalism, alchemy, astrology, and ancient languages, but is not overly knowledgeable in any one specific area at the moment.
White Magic
Lesser Healing - This ability cleanses the body of scrapes, cuts, and bruises, and lessens the intensity of more serious wounds. A gut wound would stop bleeding heavily, but the wound would not close, would still bleed somewhat, and would still be prone to infection, eventually killing the victim if more advanced medical attention is not sought out.
Usable twice per day.
(No spell components needed)
Leather Skin - The spell does not actually turn the recipient’s skin into leather, but rather, creates an invisible barrier the equivalent of leather armor around the target's body. If the target is wearing greater than leather armor, or is naturally stronger, the spell has no effect.
The spell can be placed upon one or two people for three posts, or three to four people for one post.
Useable once per day.
(Components = 5"x5" sheet of leather, which is re-usable)
Necromantic Magic
Bone Dancer - This spell turns the corpse of a level 0 NPC or low level monster into a skeleton that is the equivalent of a level 0 warrior. It is proficient in any simple, one-handed, melee weapon, and has average strength, speed, agility, and very little intelligence. Skeletons last until they are destroyed. Galleoyn can control up to one skeleton at a time.
The spell lasts until the skeleton is destroyed, and only one bone dancer may exist at a time.
(Components - a black onyx gem which is consumed when the spell is completed. Gems will be kept track of, and will be replaced in the bazaar or through questing.)
