View Full Version : Extraction Retraction!

Well, I'm due for some maxilliofacial surgery tomorrow, not sure if it's two extractions (impact wisdom tooth and the damaged tooth next to it) or removal of wisdom tooth and root canal to try and save the other, but either way, pain and grogginess abound.

That, and I've just caught a cold, yay!

So yeah, I've spoken to the guys I owe Judgements too, and this is just to say I'll not be able to guarantee postings until Thursday earliest, Friday-Sat more likely.

See you on the other side!

This does not amuse...

Not...one...bit.

But hope it all goes well, and you get better quickly. Good luck.

I'm sure you'll get through it.

I had two wisdom teeth removed myself, and while it isn't fun being on a liquid diet the first two days, what you've really got to look for, is the first trip into semi-solid foods, it actually hurts a little. On the bright side, I wasn't anywhere near being too groggy to post, but that might've just been me.

Regardless, see you when you return.

I had to get all four (two typical, two impacted) removed at the same time. I was...interesting when I got out of the oral surgeon's, to say the least. I have it from several reliable witnesses that I asked the same question (and had it answered!) five times in the space of five minutes (I only remember asking once), told the nurse that the heart rate monitor was laughing at me, and repeatedly asked if the cute boy in the waiting room was still there.

I only remember coming home and drooling blood on my favorite pillow case.

And I was ok with the liquid/softs diet for about a day, and then I desperately wanted hard pretzels and chips and things I wasn't allowed to have for a week. It was not funteims by any stretch of the imagination.

But! I wish you best of luck with yours.

Heh, I've got to have the two wisdoms on my left side out eventually, as well as possible jaw breaking re-alignment for the bottom right jaw, as well as scaling, root remnant extraction and then basically the odd re-implant and brace, not sure, they need to look proper and go through it with me once the problem teeth are removed.

Lesson of the week kids?

Go to the ****in' dentist!

Thanks for support gentlemen and ladies, I'll see you soon :D

Had two normals and two impacted I needed removed, too. Only got half done, since the painkillers decided not to work on me. The dentist sawed one into seven pieces while I felt each buzzing cut, and it took him about fifteen tugs with those huge pliers to break off each.

Then he rammed something down the gash to take out the last tip of a root he missed. During the one hour procedure, I hyperventilated from the agony, and because of that he asked me if I were a nervous person in life. That was when I declared a personal vendetta on him and his whole bloodline.

The indescribable torture notwithstanding, what bummed me out the most that day was that I didn't even get a free high.

Have fun, Duff!

Oh god damn, good luck. I wince as I recall the agonizing memory of my own Wisdom Teeth Misadventures.

Good thing is, you know you'll live through the following weeks. Cling on to that hope, my man!

Oh my god.

So much blood.

Such a big hole where the wisdom was...

Can't eat for another 3 hours :(

*Tottles off to sleep semi-concious.*

This (http://video.adultswim.com/the-venture-bros/brocks-robot-heart.html) is my recommendation for when you go under with doctors. Though getting the grenade into an emergency room and a robot impacted in your chest to hold it for you would be the hard part.

Brutal man, i had impacted wisdoms too. They even took my top two out when they didn't even start coming, cut the gums and yanked them out. Did they put you asleep? I had to hear the crushing and everything... it was brutal.

At least they gave me some kickass meds, spent the next two days in a drug-induced coma. Relax, get some sleep and you'll be good to go in no time. Alot of people say that they get pain for weeks and weeks, but if you take your meds and relax it'll be gone in a matter of days.

Well they finally clotted, after 12 hours of relatively heavy bleeding. I can eat today, and talk fine, the pain is not much except if I open my jaw too much, which, considering the placing of the hole of the wisdom tooth, it's to be expected.

I'm only on ibuprofen to cover the aching, if the clot stays for the rest of the today I'll move onto some more solid foods tomorrow.

I'm glad it's healing quick, I've got to present my dissertation research proposal to senior academic staff and peers on Monday :S

I was put into a state of intoxication rather than completely knocked out. I wanted it that way, as I don't like the risks of that type of anasthesia. Unfortunately, the effect wore off before they even really started doing the procedure, so I was stuck in that damn chair for about an hour while they performed surgery on my sober maw.

I think I was out for about a week and a half after that; just lying around watching television and sipping broccoli and cheese soup I bought from a local Wegmans. It was a long time ago, so I could be exaggerating how long I was incapacitated.
