View Full Version : Oh, to be young.

Name: Razeki Zuoh. But he calls himself Blaze.
Gender: He's a male, and damn proud of it.
Age: Twenty two human years.
Race/Nationality: He's an Akashiman Nekojin.
Height/Weight: Roughly six feet tall, weighing in at around 160lbs.
Fur/Eye Color: He often boasts about his shiny obsidian fur and deep jade feline eyes, accentuated by ears that are long even when compared to other Nekojin.
Occupation: A Spirit Warder Exorcist of Ninyama Village.
Religion: None? At this point, at least. However, as a Spirit Warder, he does follow the patron deity Gingitsu.

What He's Like

Lighthearted to a fault, Razeki considers himself a young hotshot; a rising star in the face of mankind with a "do whatever I want" mindset. This tends to make him appear arrogant or conceited, but in reality however - and despite how hard he tries to hide it - his moral compass points due north. This is not to say that he is never serious, as he's very much serious about his exorcising, just that he looks at most things in life with a rather flamboyant, if somewhat cynical, point of view.

It's obvious that he retains some form of high intelligence, although it only shines through a cleverly sarcastic wit that tends to throw him into trouble more often than keeping his fur out of it. Blaze is also clearly not one to feel remorse, often times deliberately detaching himself emotionally from a lot of situations, perhaps to guard himself.

His Good Looks

He might say he looks like a fine specimen of his race. But then again, one would say that that cat sitting next to him was utterly adorable also. In reality, the female Nekojins would see Razeki as an average looker.

Smooth, sleek, and impeccably groomed jet black fur blankets his form, with patches of grey-white dotted here and there. Blaze's body is lean and tight, with lithe muscles chiseled to anatomic perfection that sport considerable personal strength as well as optimum dexterity. This body structure combined with solid facial features and long fangs makes Blaze look somewhat like a humanoid panther.

Clothing-wise, he currently chooses to where naught but a dark brown vest of cured leather and a similar belt that his sword is tied to. He claims that he fights better without armor, and obviously has the skills to prove it.

His Stuff

"Folded Steel Katana" - Razeki Zuoh's weapon of choice. This simple sword has been tempered to near-perfection with a thirty six inch long, sharp blade. Intricate runes that signify Blaze as a Spirit Warder are engraved along the bottom of the blade near the hilt, which is wrapped in tight and durable black leather with a golden ring guard. It comes with an oaken scabbard, painted black, that is tied loosely onto the leather belt wrapped around his thin waist.

"Iron Throwing Knives (2)" - These knives are the simplest of design being only six inch lengths of cheap metal with a small bit of leather wrapped around one half while the other is crudely sharpened. He keeps them tucked into his belt, opposite his katana, and are balanced exclusively for throwing rather than melee combat. Throwing proficiency is only average, Blaze doesn't prefer this method of combat often. He's more likely to be seen whittling with them than fighting.

"(bronze) Claws" - Considered a weapon by Razeki himself, the natural and retractable one inch claws on his hands and feet have been filed to a sharp point and are more than able to do some considerable slashing damage when swung. He also uses them to aid in climbing. If quality were to be compared to any metal, bronze would probably match closest (making them fairly prone to break and useless if being pitted against stronger metal weapons or armor). Although this may change over time.

"Leather Open-Chested Vest" - His only item of clothing. The cured leather is durable and could possibly provide very minor protection against cuts and bruises, but it's more there so he doesn't walk around completely naked. He gripes that too many people associate him with cats, that walk around completely "nude" and doesn't want to do the same himself. Though he could...

"Paper Charms (10)" - These amulets and charms are used to ward off and destroy evil spirits. The technique of creating these is one known only by Spirit Warders, and Blaze always has several dangling from his belt tied to small strings. If not, then he is making some.

Notable Characteristics ("----------" notes a sub-category)

"Silver Tongue" - Simply put, Blaze's way with words is almost as evasive as his fighting style. Knowing what to say and when to say it can be an extremely important asset at almost any time.

"Strong Willed" - Razeki's personal strength and charisma lead to an exceptionally strong mind and considerable amount of willpower, making him a suitable leader if his overall personality wasn't totally geared in the opposite direction.

"Arts and Crafts" - He has a knack for making things with his hands, which are (not surprisingly) extraordinarily nimble. He prefers whittling wood as a pasttime.

"Swordplay" - Razeki prides himself on his masterful art of stylishly manipulating his sword with deft hands; twirling, spinning, tossing, flipping, anything to impress the crowds. Note that this technique is in no way associated with his actual competence with the sword in battle.

"Dextrous" - Blaze considers himself an extremely gifted acrobat. His heritage combined with rigorous martial training has granted him an extraordinary sense of grace and agility not easily matched by others and that can only improve with time. This includes running, jumping and maneuvering his body mid-flight, ability to evade foes, intricate acrobatic movements, his ability to throw and accuracy with knives, and his overall speed as a swordsman. He's roughly 1.6x more agile when compared to an average human male.

"Feline Senses" - His cat-like blood has sharpened the various sensory organs such as the ears and eyes, thus resulting in them being about 1.5x more acute than an average human male. But as a downside, Razeki's sensitivity to bright light is significantly higher.

"Lion's Strength" - It is obvious that Blaze does not favor pure brute muscle power over speed and agility. But that fact notwithstanding, he is fairly strong in his own right; being able to lift his own weight - climbing for an example - with ample energy to spare. Currently, he would be considered 1.2x stronger than an average human male.

Combat Oriented ("----------" notes a sub-skill)

"The Way of the Blade" - His swordfighting style. A practice that is more about self-experiencing than formal teaching. The Way of the Blade emphasizes how a man's (or feline's) sword is more than a sword, it is an extension of one's own arm. Knowing this, the swordsman can perform feats and move his blade with unmatched speed, skill, and precision. As thus, Blaze can use his sword alone to block, parry, and maneuver out of enemy attacks, getting rid of the need for physical armor. Having trained with his blade throughout most of his life, his aptitude is considered above average.

---------- Quick Draw is the technique of unsheathing one's sword at blinding speeds, bringing the katana to a ready position. The versatility of this skill is invaluable and perhaps in the future, with training, Blaze will be able to use this technique to perform lightning-fast slashes. At this point however, it's only wishful thinking.

"Taijen Bu" - This is the name of a martial art taught to all Spirit Warders, named after what the masters would exclaim as they forcefully exhaled at the end of a technique. "Taijen... BU!" This style, akin to The Way of the Sword, is more accustomed to speed than strength; using the opponent's weight and force against them like a rolling wave. Razeki was never fond of it, as most of the techniques that were taught focused on closed-handed more than open-handed (as most of his peers were human and as a result had no claws to use). Nonetheless, he has adapted the martial art into his own form, one that favors the usage of his clawed hands and feet. However, Blaze always preferred sword practice so as a result he is below average at best.

"Way of the Spirit" - Or also known as Onmyoudo, this sacred and magical art is a secret taught through the generations of Spirit Warders. Onmyoudo is the manifestation of one's own spiritual energy through intense and severely debilitating concentration to perform magical feats; this can range from healing, to destrction (something that Blaze focuses on). It is the process of putting malicious spirits to rest, or in other words entering combat and exorcising them. The strength and form of energy varies with each practitioner; a variable determined by personal strength of mind.

---------- (Passive) Spirit Sight and Talk is the Spirit Warder's ability to sense and observe demonic spirits (or any for that matter) and also communicate with them, whereas normal beings cannot. This ability varies in strength, from being able to only notice a spirit's presence in the immediate area of sniff one out from houses away, and that strength is directly tied to a Warder's training experience. Currently, Blaze can only sense spirits in the immediate area.

---------- The Rune of Dismissal is a technique taught to every Spirit Warder, and is also probably the easiest to perform. By tracing intricate magical runes in the air while exerting spirit energy, a weakened spirit can be properly exorcised and sent to the After Life. Using this technique burns up a paper charm. Like everything, the power of the Rune grows with training, practice, and diligent concentration, increasing the size and strength of the spirit being exorcised. Currently, Razeki can effectively cast the Rune on spirits only his size or smaller, anything bigger would only wind up laughing as the magic bounced off them.

---------- Spirit Flame is one of Razeki's personalized abilities (most say it's why he calls himself Blaze). Through intense focus he can manifest his spirit energy into bright green flames. These flames are in fact much hotter than normal fire, and don't affect Blaze in any way. The way in which he manipulates this fire varies with mood. As a downside, this ability takes a lot out of him so size and duration are lmited. Currently, Blaze can erect flames about the size of his fist and hold them for roughly five seconds, replenishing his spirit energy to do it again takes about five minutes.

Sorry about the delay, Majik. Had to hit those other two profiles up first.

I'm pretty certain you've been on Althanas before, based on your profile and writing. With that in mind, I'm going to let you know that your profile, as-is, has far too many abilities. Try to whittle it down to 3 or 4, maybe 5.

His folded katana is going to not be razor sharp, more like somewhat sharp. Essentially, to get the metal to razor sharpness would be considered "masterwork", and that's not really something a level zero character would have the means to acquire unless via purchase.

I'll allow the throwing knives as they are, and the vest as well. And because of the added weakness of the claws potential for breaking, I will allow them as well.

If you can explain the purposes for each of his abilities, and the means you plan to use them in, I will take a second look at them and reconsider approval.

Oh, I overlooked the fact that I wrote that, about the sword. I figured the metal quality was good enough. Anyway, that's changed.

I'll also explain the skills: To start with, I honestly don't see that he has many skills, just more along the lines that I - as a writer - have taken the time to flesh out what others wouldn't (the Notable Characteristics section for example), but naturally they might have the same abilities too.

Take Spirit Sense and the Rune of Dismissal for example. Those are the skills that enable him to be a Spirit Warder (Obviously, sense to be able to find them and the Rune to exorcise), the latter specifically not giving him any advantage whatsoever in a PvP battle or anything of the sort. I also tried to gimp Spirit Flame as much as possible without making it practically worthless in a practical situation (five seconds lets him maybe light a torch or show off even). The five minute rule is, say in a PvP battle for example, a deal breaker because a five minute long battle is incredibly long, all facts considering, and hard to come by (that's assuming five seconds of fire could be put to great use in a battle in the first place).

The Sixth Sense under Way of the Sword is also nothing to take too seriously. Razeki won't be innately dodging anything and everything. In fact, dodging anything at all - whether minor or major - would take a great deal of luck. Quick Draw really is more for flair and style right now rather than battle, though it's foreshadowed that it may branch off into new battle skills in the future.

Anyway, I think that's the best I can explain them. That's what my mindset was behind them at least. Is that sufficient or is there anything else you want explained? Bringing it down to the facts, I only see Razeki as an above average swordsman that can make fire for five little seconds, power-wise. Everything else is for the character's flavor. I've waged a personal vendetta against making generic mercenary swordsman. :P

As of things I've actually edited text-wise: I've taken the liberty of fleshing out Rune of Dismissal even a little more, among other things. Changed Taijen Bu's proficiency from "a little below average" to just "below average" (take into mind it also says at best, meaning that in only optimal conditions would he be considered as such). Added in proficiency for the throwing knives with a note in their equipment description.
