Name: Vander ‘Grim’ Jack
Age: 34
Race: Human
Hair Color: Dark Brown
Eye Color: Brown
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 185 lbs
*Occupation: Borrower of Antiquities
*Personality: Despite his dower nickname, Jack cuts a whimsical air in the vain of the Flynn-ian swashbuckler. He combines quick wit with a penchant for womanizing, but his overall demeanor cuts more of a confident feel than one of arrogance.
While loyalty tends to be a scarce commodity with his kind (rogues), Vander is the exception and not the rule. He loves his fellow travelers as much as he loves the pretty baubles so many are kind enough to leave out…in their locked homes...under their pillows.
Appearance: Vander’s shoulder length brown hair shines with the luster of wealth, while his eyes shine at the thought of others’ wealth. If he is ‘out and about’, the rogue will be wearing the very latest suit of style befitting human high class. If ‘on the job’, he will be found in nothing but the deepest flattest black, with his hair tied back in a tight bun and a bandanna/cowl obscuring the top half of his face (the bottom of his nose, north…like a highwayman of old).
Not one scar mars his athletic build and his face can hold the fancy of commoner and courtesan…such is the plight of Vander ‘Grim’ Jack.
On his right shoulder rests a tattoo of the primary constellation (horoscope, Chinese year equivalent) of the year/season of his birth, while his left carries the constellation of the year/season of his escape from prison (see below)
History: Being a murderer should be more…flashy, but alas the thrill of such a label has been lost amidst the frequency of the act.
After having grown up the first son of a wealthy commodities dealer (someone has to broker the trade of raw materials between nations), Vander sheathed his sword hilt deep into his best friend, Callum Baker. Perhaps it was coincidence, but Callum too was a murderer…as well as a rapist…acts he performed in tandem with Vander’s fiancée Moira Mills.
Despite his clearly disturbed psychological tendencies, Callum was quite the gifted liar. After framing Vander for Moira’s death, the local authorities lay siege to the Jack household, taking Vander’s father, Bastille, into custody and charged him with collusion.
Vander heard of his home’s attack and his father’s arrest and confronted Callum, hoping to take the murderer before a priest or wizard and obtain a confession. Things did not go as planned, and Jack killed Callum, but the ultimate victory went to the fallen rapist, as House Jack was shattered forever.
Hours later a distraught Vander was apprehended by the authorities.
His father was released from prison a few months after the murder of Callum, but Grim remained incarcerated until his escape...nearly one year behind the jail’s walls.
However, that was fifteen years ago, and since that time Vander has managed to stay away from the authorities and hone his craft.
Skills: Vander is quick as a hiccup. Whether he be picking a lock, lifting a purse, or palming a coin or card, the rogue is lightning embodied. His speed transitions well to swordplay and archery, though he possesses little love for the latter. Vaulting, tumbling and climbing are above average attributes of the thief too.
As a sacrifice for his speed, the gods stole much of his strength. While not a weakling, Vander needs to mindful of the size of his pack and the boastfulness of his tongue. Death by a thousand cuts for his enemies, but the knockout blow is not housed within his swordarm.
Equipment: Two finely smithed daggers and a saber of exquisite craftsmanship adorn his sword belt, while a tightly stitched suit of padded leather rests nearly invisible beneath his normal dress.
His lockpicking kit, climbing tools, caltrops, and other pursuit deterrents make up his thieving repertoire.
Of his past life, he carries but one item…Moira’s engagement ring on a chain around his throat.
*Please note that the name GrimJack stems from the writing of John Ostrander and is meant as a tribute to his works. If the moderators would rather I use something else for my character name, I will happily comply.
